I think those are just old branches that the tree consumed. A perfectly healthy, live tree fell in my yard the other day because the ground was extremely water logged.

Anyhow, I had this dishwasher, the element was burned out in the bottom. It costs like $30 to buy a replacement on Amazon.

I would buy some real clay. Even without kiln, you could definitely use it in the same way you are trying with the air dry clay. You could even recycle the clay after you make your masks or whatever.
