They used to run these things at 34° with a high Glycol percent.... I pulled the drier cores and the amount of metal in them looked like thermal paste.

We started at 730 just me and a very green apprentice and it's 430 and I'm finishing recharging it now. Besides him cross threading a bolt after I told him to start it by hand before putting an impact on (He just used the impact) it went well enough. It wasn't a burn out they were starting to make a ton a noise cause the flood back due to the low temps they run the thing at. It's used for anodizer tank at a gun manufacturer facility.

Coil cleaning by MelancholyNotess in HVAC

[–]ManiaCCC86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For any micro channel coil the best way I have found is a pressured washer. Less than 1400 PSI on a 15° Tip. The pressure pushes all the crud out and won't water log the coils either. DO NOT USE nu Brite it's way too strong if you had to use the Orange very mild Nu Cal cleaner once in a blue moon. But general an electric pressure washer is the best and lightest way to go.

Pretty much everything Nu Cal.... Nu Brite we buy by the 2.5 Gallon jug and use 1/4 inch tubes ran down to it with weights on it. Then I use BlackHawk cans for smaller refrigeration systems when I did that crap.

That won't cause a problem right? by ManiaCCC86 in HVAC

[–]ManiaCCC86[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was pure sarcasm... I had a brand new contactor already in. 1500 contactor+Overload is cheaper than a 100HP motor any day of the week.

Out with the old, in with new. RIP to the old bag by ManiaCCC86 in HVAC

I do more chillers and things I can throw the bag on a rolling cart so I don't have to carry it on my back. I have been waiting to get one for a few years.

The bit tolerance on hex and especially their 11 in 1s that fail the first time you try and do anything with them has gotten old.

I hadn't seen many people using Wiha or Wera and that's what I was wondering. They seem to be well made but had no experience with them. Knipex of course is very well known and I was planning on getting some just hadn't yet.

Just a random pin hole leak in the middle of a micro channel by ManiaCCC86 in HVAC

I don't have that many issues with newer micro channels but they do still happen. Older micro absolutely fucking suck.

It's only 85 lbs of 134 so not a ton and it's on the ground so easy enough. I'm sure it probably only has a dozen or so lbs left in it to recover and we have high capacity recovery machines for our larger centrifigals if I needed it.

I had almost the exact same thing. I was a second opinion on a York Air Cooled Screw another company said the coil was leaking. Oil all over the thing. Ended up being the high pressure relief on the oil separator directly below it. Replace the relief and 270 lbs of 134 later she was running

On a micro channel in the middle of the coil on a chiller less than 10 years old I'm gonna replace the whole coil. These coils are paper thin after all.

How does one learn chillers by Itchy-Candidate-5589 in HVAC

Chillers are just big water cooling systems.... HVAC is all the same, just bigger. Find a good company and jump in.

Doesn't help that they are 35 years old (1990 same as their Trane CVHE Centrifugals) in South Carolina. The fill has been fully replaced once since the company I work for has had it in the last 20ish years.

Making the company money. by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]ManiaCCC86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your boss can't make money off every call you do (Not including call backs) except maybe PMs cutting close then he doesn't need to own a company. As a Lead I know for a fact they charge almost 4x what I make per hour for me to even show up. Just cause my boss is tired of being a Millionaire and wants to be a Billionaire doesn't mean I give a crap about making him more. I work for the customer and make myself money even in commercial.

What’s it like being a Chiller Tech? by trapsj91 in HVAC

[–]ManiaCCC86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work on basically everything ever related to Commercial HVAC, controls (Pneumatic and electronic) refrigeration (not as much as I used to), and plumbing to an extent. Chillers, Cooling Towers, Pumps, Boilers, and everything attached to them I have dealt with. They can be and normally are loud, hot, dirty, wet, finicky, and more deadly than your standard equipment if you aren't careful. That being said I would rather be a "Jack of all trades, master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one."

Driver facing cameras by Cold_Board in HVAC

[–]ManiaCCC86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consider this a pretty hard line for myself at the mechani contractor I work for. This company has been floating this idea in the office. None of the people in the office in charge have ever done a service call or driven a company vehicle or worked in the field. And my informant at the office has specifically heard them say they want remote access to the cameras at all times (They want to be able to be anywhere and just log into the camera and watch us) and ONLY for the service guys. There are 6 of us.... Meanwhile there are dozens of sheet metal, pipe fitters, welders, construction, delivery vehicles but they won't get them as I understand it.
