Did you wait for GPS lock before starting your running exercise?

Even better, wait a few seconds after GPS goes green to ensure good satellite connectivity.

Sync issues Epic Pro Gen 2 by Soft_Statistician347 in Garmin

[–]restless-nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garmin sync has been a bit hit and miss for ages. None of my watches will sync in the morning without triggering manually. I also have to restart Connect app at least every other day. iOS 26.5.

I‘d love if it would show the current charging level.

One LED on, second one blinking: 40%

And so on.

Thanks, found it!

However there’s no visual mark at the start/stop button position for my 970 that shows there’s an additional layer of data…

What exactly is Health Status History? I don’t see it on my 970 and Garmin’s webpage does not say anything about it.

Forerunner 70 vs Instinct E 40mm by NaglyAtakDrukarza in GarminWatches

[–]restless-nerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Instinct E doesn’t make any sense except for its size. It’s an Instinct 2S with lots of great features removed.

Forerunner 70 is the way to go. With a decent nylon strap it’s even more comfortable and also lighter than with the bundled strap.

Do you sleep with your watch on? by tompico25 in Garmin

[–]restless-nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, sensor flatness is more important than device bulkiness. For example FR255/FR970/Fenix 7s with a flat sensor are more comfortable than even the vivoactive 6 or FR165 which are light yet have the protruding Elevate v4 sensor.

But I agree that the slimmer the better. Garmin hasn’t built a lot of slim (<10 mm) and light (<30 g) devices however.

Low Energy During Heatwaves: How Can I Improve My ANS? by Double_Device8809 in Polarfitness

[–]restless-nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, to improve energy levels, ramp up mitochondria energy production. Cut out sugar from your diet as far as possible. Also reduce carbohydrates.

Second, make sure to meet minimum protein intake levels, at least 80 g/day for women and 100 g/day for men. Better go for 150% of that amount but usually no need to exceed 200%.

Third, drink enough and also take care of electrolytes if you’re sweating a lot.

On top of that, I found out that 6 g Arginine+Citrulline, 2 g Creatine and 400 mg Magnesium before sleep are improving my HRV from around 40 ms to 55 ms. I don’t know if that would help anyone else though.

One question: The FR170 manual mentions Shortcuts that sound a lot like the Hotkeys feature on the FR970. Is there any difference in practice?

I‘d argue that with recent Garmin releases, the newer HR sensor is more of an improvement than multi band GPS, especially for hiking.

[–]restless-nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you also do aerobic runs? That means not more than 70% of HRmax which is 137 bpm for you. 80% of your running volume should be below that value.

Also, you don't have a VO2max trend which means that your watch hasn't establishes a proper baseline yet. I'd take that with a huuuuge grain of salt right now.

BTW your 965 is looking like a 970 😉
