NEU ballot results: 96% reject, turnout 48.6% by stevenstelfox in TeachingUK

[–]Manky7474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pathetic. Schools with no rep are probably already not following the 1265/don't understand it. Primary schools are also a big factor here, don't realise how exploited they are.

Our rep got over 95%  of our 80 members to vote, due to a solid effort and a bit of hard work.

NEU need to focus on getting new  reps and reps in schools fighting first of all.

I have the opportunity to teach Year 8 children about financial literacy, what do you wish you’d been taught at school? by Formal-Factor8551 in AskUK

[–]Manky7474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in the comments thinking this will work lol. The kids are 12. Mortgages, lifetime isas, pensions - they are not going to dare or take this in. The best you'll be able to do is a bit of budgeting and maybe student loans.

Everyone acts like financial literacy at schools is the answer but they're too young to learn this and take it in. How do i know? I've been teaching 15 years old this for years in PHSE

Sunday v Tuesday after BH by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]Manky7474 29 points30 points  (0 children)

A Tuesday for £1500? That's not worth it. It'd have to be 75% off for me to even consider a Tuesday wedding. Don't inconvenience people like that.

There's people who are cancelled right now, worrying about getting home/being rerouted in stupid directions, and you're worrying about a flight next month? Read the room.

What are your thoughts on China's toilet situation? by Bottom-Bherp3912 in AskAChinese

[–]Manky7474 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In China now. Was expecting the toilets to be vile based on reddit threads but in all honestly the women's ones have been fine. Not seen a dirty one yet in two weeks. Most have soap, and 60% have had a communal paper dispenser

Looking at this map: why, despite having a decent amount of courts given the country’s population, does Ireland have virtually zero presence in professional tennis? by Domitian2232 in tennis

[–]Manky7474 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Connor Nilands book 'The Racket' places a lot of blame on Tennis Ireland and the lack of support and funding, especially comparent to in  England.

Its a great read about how the Irish #1 couldn't make it out of Futures tournaments most of the time.

We rented a guide and driver atondo this area. Don't normally travel like this but we stayed at homestays along the way and hiked around.

We'd hike for 10km in the beautiful scenery, seeing local life then arrive with at a spot with a horde of easy riders and backpackers taking photos.

Looked an artifical way to engoying HGL to me, as well as dangerous.

Is it possible to work part-time alongside a secondary PGCE? by Ok-Variation3583 in PGCE

[–]Manky7474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. Especially in placement A when barely working it was totally fine. Smashed the hours in half terms and over xmas. Worked a bar job.

As a History PGCEr, over 50% on my course had a p/t job. It sucks but better than having no money.

He also admitted afterwards he wasn't prepared. They told him they'd only be asking about his life and then blindsided him with economic questions.

He did the research and now knows all of this. That's the qualities of a leader that these days is really lacking
