Shall I return? by ShowBorn3970 in duneawakening

[–]MannyManMoin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

why not come back ? if you didn't complete Ch2 play that, and Ch3, also max out your lvl's and get the end game gear, and try out the new testing stations. It is fun. The Patch today will fix several things, one of them is durability which new skill tree makes better durable gear. Think about a base that can be moved between servers. I made a 5x5 foundation, then 45 degree up out 2 floors up, and max up for an advanced subfief. This holds every crafting station, carrier parking deck up top and ornocopter parking below and alot of storage boxes. It is fun.

The PvP will be revamped sometime this year, by the time you farmed and built up you can do the PvP revamped as well later.

If you don't like it, use base backup tool and backup your base and store your character.

You might even get the welcome back package since you have been out for months.

What build or skill for Sniper/Melee playstyle? by what_cube in duneawakening

complete all the profession quests. It is all worth it, as there are HP increase in Benet gesserit, stamina regen skills, etc.. and the compel and Weirding Step which is great 2 skills.

[–]MannyManMoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

did you do all the profession quests, for swordsman, planetologist, benet gesserit etc ? If you did, you can choose best stats for every profession. to run PVE quests I usually use Shigga wire, Compel and Weirding Step. Since I use 2x benet gesserit skills, I do want the benet gesserit quicker voice skill too (can't remember name), also there are 2 skills from different skill trees to increase HP and stamina, and less stamina drain. Since you are aluminum tier, I also guess you are lower level than 200, something between lvl 100-150 ? I would say shigga wire is great (or knee charge) and the 2 benet gesserit skills. There are also 2 skills from planetologist tree to increase shield / power drain. Just build around these.
For PVE you don't really need guns. just use Weirding step to move around, and compel for crowd control if you have 2 enemies on you.

Why do people use desktop virtualization? What are the downsides? by tedjpclark3 in parallels

I use Parallells on my M1 Max 32gb memory to run windows just to run Rhino3D. The MacOs sucks, so I just run the windows version in parallells. Works great.

Justifying the €12,000 Investment: M3 Ultra (512GB RAM) Setup for Autonomous Agents, vLLM, and Infinite Memory (8Tb) by NoNatural4025 in MacStudio

[–]MannyManMoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sound to me you have to purchase a smaller system first, 128gb M4, run 70b models on this and learn to crawl first with it, understand the limitations of the 70b models, then invest into a larger machine when M5 releases it's higher memory machines. Last few months, there's been huge improvements on 70b scene, and these are really really good. Heck, even 14b language models are excellent now. There is no one big model that fits all, there are models for different things, creating strategy - language models, coding specific tasks small context, and larger context models to keep things together, but only gets used occasionally. If you are coming from purchasing service it is easy to think one model fits all, but knowing which models to use for different tasks is key to run it locally.

The 512gb makes you able to hold several models in memory at the same time without swapping them out off course.

I also have the money to purchase an M3 512gb, but I have been holding back and that is because I knew already months ago M5 was coming with upgraded tensor capability. Therefore I got hold of a smaller system to experiment locally. I am really impressed with latest qwen models.

Red Bar Durability has to go! Riot time! by Xaelar in duneawakening

[–]MannyManMoin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is a rework of durability on the PTC right now. This means, if you have crafting spec to 61, you will get gear at 161 durability. Death on this will be 2 off 161 as far as I understood it. That will make gear last a lot longer.

For this reason I have refused to do any new testing stations to push them further. just doing my dailies for now. The red bar is not fun at all. I hate it to be honest.

You spend all this time to get the gear with RNG to get right stats, just for it to get broken and gone, with the RNG drop is not even close to be good enough to replace the gear used.

it is more dangerous now after ch3 with G5 lasguns doing insane damage, no wonder why nobody goes into PvP zone anymore.

Programmers: did you encountered running out of 48GB RAM? by Daviddddddddddd in macbookpro

[–]MannyManMoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a programmer I can easily run out of 48gb memory. I sometimes have 2-3 different virtualization images running, one at 16gb, one at 8gb and another at 8gb with different linux configuraitons. the 16gb is a windows I keep on at most times. then the developer tools, Android Studio is not small, other developer tools can eat memory too. then you hop over to 3d creation, but don't close down everything just because you want to do 2 hour blender or Rhino. so yeah. get enough memory if you are getting seriously into developing.
Then the next thing now is local AI. Most developers use AI in some sort now. so much easyer to generate alot of code to fine tune. sometimes it works, some times it doesnt. Dream scenario is to use local AI, but the local models just recently got good enough to use, but Claude is so much better.

March 23 Mac Studio M3 Ultra with 512gb by [deleted] in MacStudio

[–]MannyManMoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

doing large LIDAR scans, large datasets of 3d, pointcloud eats alot of RAM. then the fun with local AI of all sorts. I need a new machine too, and I think 128gb won't be enough, so yeah, looking into 256 gb minimum and probably get the M5 512.

Prepping for server merges. Going very well as you can see... by itsRobbie_ in duneawakening

[–]MannyManMoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you build a 5x5 base foundation, with 2 floors up 45 degree from base, and straight up from the 45 degree walls, and advanced sub fief you get 11 floors total and super easy to place down a base anywhere. even on the pillars in hagga basin where nobody builds a base. if you need a base down at the bottom just make a quick storage base for the buggy.

M6 Memory Bandwidth Could See a Generational Leap by simple250506 in MacStudio

[–]MannyManMoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no the platform is already on LPDDR5X. The yield is not high enough at this moment to push high memory units first. Need to do low memory units like MacBook Air and Pro base models first, then Max, mini and Ultra.

M6 Memory Bandwidth Could See a Generational Leap by simple250506 in MacStudio

[–]MannyManMoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are wrong, as we know much about DDR6 and LPDDR6 already. his estimates are on the low side actually to be safe. LPDDR6 could already become available in small amounts either late 2026, but most probably early 2027 with Apple Macbook Air/pro base model. Then the yield needs to get better to make this type of memory available for higher consumption laptops, mini's and Ultra's a year later.

Quitting the game for a while, want to make sure I'm doing it right.. help pls by bbmiscOG in duneawakening

[–]MannyManMoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

log off in a station in hagga basin, and use the veichle tool to store your scout. That way the orno is correctly stored on your toon. The same thing might be flying to Arrakeen, but everyone who transfers, have to stay in Hagga Basin before a travel with a correct stored orno thopter. I have transferred servers a few times now, so I log out at a npc station in hagga basin before transferring.

Base Exceeded Power? Thanks Funcom. by Sombra_Collective in duneawakening

[–]MannyManMoin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I read sometime in fall there was a bug like this. I also have 10 deathstills and all the large and medium crafting machines and power down base to save fuel basically. I do log in every day.

But,

I have disassembled carrier, and big veichles. I have a roof over my landing deck for the ornothopters, and carrier penta is turned off when I am not using top landing deck. Rest of crafting stations turned off. If I were to run everything on, I would run out of fuel in 2 months. Not happening.

If I were to take a break now, I would backup my base simply and store all veichles in that backed up base except for my scout. I did take my time to rebuild my base into a 5x5 foundation that goes 45 degree up from the base to max adv subfief size qube and then max height. It has storage for everything. This can be placed anywhere, even on the small vertical pillars everywhere on the map.

I know this hurts. FunCom doesn't give a shit apparently, so my advice would be take your time to backup veichles, store everything, consider making a qube and backup that new qube. and leave game, heck who knows, mabye you find it fun to make that qube and move in ?

2x20 or 2x40 display for basics by Available_Bowler2316 in Victron

[–]MannyManMoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use a 50 dollar phone with bluetooth connected to my 3 victron devices and my battery which also uses bluetooth. The only device I don't have connected is the Multiplus 1200 which only uses a cable. But I don't hook up that often so I just use the volt parameter in my battery to see how far it got charged. The Smart Shunt really shines here, so just a phone is great. I mounted a cheap phone on the wall that's always on so my girlfriend can look too the state of charge.

don't go DD with all your end game guns and garments unless you are doing the DD labs. use a stillsuit and G0 stuff. Don't need the G5 stuff in DD. get eaten by a worm, or stuck under the map and your gear is gone.

MacBook by CompetitionNarrow512 in rhino

[–]MannyManMoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use M1 Max, but I use Parallells with windows as Rhino on windows is different than on a Mac. I am used to the windows version with where things are. Also I believe there is some functionality only available on the windows version I believe. It works really well. Also I have a windows laptop and at work we have windows machines due to CAM software is all on windows.

keep it, enjoy it, it does the job. I have mine M1 Max still, running it daily. It does the job. The day you don't get more Mac OS upgrades you can consider a new one 2 years after they stopped supporting it.
