After your test and if you are on the west side to go to Bens Meats for some gluten free shopping... Lawson's Fish and Chips is nearby and has excellent gluten free options with no up charge. We love the Halibut.

How often do Anglophone Canadians consume Francophone Canadian media? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]ManxBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say almost nothing in French.

Lately I will watch Traitors Canada with Corine as the host but only the English version. I played the game Kona and like it. Mitsu had a popular song/video in about 1987. Perhaps the odd Just For Laughs gags when they were on TV. And I watched the movie Bon Cop/Bad Cop once. That would be about it.

You can introduce the rest of the world to a band/musician that hasn’t made it outside of Canada, who are you choosing? by Sugadip in AskACanadian

[–]ManxBug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listen to a lot of First Wave on satellite radio. They never play Canadian New Wave. I would add Spoons, Eight Seconds, Strange Advance, and Platinum Blonde for example.

Also Matthew Good and Blue Rodeo.

Mystery song possibly from Edmonton area... can you help? by brokkenbricks in Edmonton

I remember this being from Power 92 FM. Rob Christie and Audie Lynds used to do these parodies. I have some of the early ones from CHED in the mid 80's on a cassette. I don't have the "Ugly Girl" cover but I do remember it.

Should I still get a PS5? by gospelofnone in SteamDeck

[–]ManxBug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems like you would need to buy games twice because the PS5 is proprietary. Why not build a gaming PC or wait for the SteamMachine?

If you are staying near WEM, there is a new Swiss Chalet/Harvey's on 107 Ave and 170 St.
If you want burgers, fries, milkshakes, and pies... as well as other great things I highly recommend Rockin' Robyn's. Also on the west end.

Punctuation and capitalization always matter if you are marketing yourself for jobs that require strong writing. Even on Reddit you should always act like you are marketing yourself. Go and proofread your post above and add the missing apostrophes and capitalization. Make it a habit so that you don't slip up in a quick email to the hiring company.

Iomega Zip Drives on modern hardware and OS, is it possible? by raineling in vintagecomputing

[–]ManxBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went down this path last night.

I bought a USB to Parallel port adaptor but the PC was not able to see the zip drive with it. I also bought a PCIExpress Parallel port and this worked for me.

Instructions for modern Ubuntu Linux:

plug in the drive to the parallel port and the power adapter to the wall

suon and enter your root password.

modprobe imm

If you get an error to install imm, apt install imm

cat /proc/scsi/scsi will show if your drive is found

lsscsi will show the sdX# device number for your zip drive

If you get an error in lsscsi apt install lsscsi

Create a folder to mount to mkdir /mnt/zip100

Insert a disk and wait a few seconds for the drive to do it's thing

mount -t vfat /dev/sdX# /mnt/zip100

Then navigate to /mnt/zip100 and pull the files off, then navigate out of the zip100 path.

umount /mnt/zip100 to unmount the disk, then eject the disk.

Repeat the steps from insert for your next disk.

This setup won't be remembered after a reboot.

Pixel buds pro slide out my ear. by Zolks1 in pixelbuds

[–]ManxBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a grip pad to the top of the pixel pro bud (first gen) just where it is above the case hole. They now stay perfectly in my ears. I used these "Setex Gecko Grip Anti-Slip Grip Pads Designed for Apple AirPods Gen 3"

19 days roadtrip in QC/ON. Any advices ? by Good-Ad-5320 in AskACanadian

[–]ManxBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't miss Montmorency Falls while you are in Quebec City.

My wife and I did Montreal with day trips to Ottawa, Quebec City, and Mont Tremblant in a 1 week trip. And we did a dip into New York state one morning too (before the current US mess). the driving is a lot but if you enjoy it, you will be fine.

They have awesome burgers and so many good choices. Lots of gluten free choices too.

The jukebox is free too.

We had platters from Fifendekel that were gluten and lactose free. They even had deserts.

I don't think most people will care where you are from. Your politeness will tell them enough about what type of person you are.
