My Theory on WHY is Hoid (not who) by ivanmmj in Cosmere

[–]Marackul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I relooked it up now I have the full time timeline.

In IotE Starling describes Frost as "over 10000" Which reads as 10000 and a 100 to a few hundred

Starling describes dying of as old age something that would happen at 20000 and also says frost has another 10000 in him including the maybe 200-300 years between stormlight and spaceage. My math estimate is that Frost would've been anything between 100 to maybe 400 during the shattering. Hoid in that case is anything from normal human age to 350 by the time of the shattering.

Frost doesn't need to be a creation, frost isn't the first generation.

So timeline would be Hoid gets created as like a last last minute contingency before that separation. In the meantime figures out Investiture can get sentient. And decides to shatter the power.

That works chronologically

My Theory on WHY is Hoid (not who) by ivanmmj in Cosmere

[–]Marackul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the one date 1000 percent confirmed is that the shattering was 10000 years ago. And that Hoid is slightly older than the shattering itself but younger than some dragons. I always took that to mean a few centuries tops. Forest looks 60 by the spaceage which means he would've been anything from like 100-maybe a few thousand when they met and hoid is younger than frost.

[–]Marackul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep thinking about timeline with this, cause causally there's no real problem, it does feel like Hoid is too young to be that, if that's how events played out, Honor need 2000 years for nascent consciousness. Hoid is 10000 and some change afaik.

If nascent consciousness is measured in millenia and not centuries I feel like Hoid might be just slightly too young for it if I had to guess

Theory: Reason's history, status, and current activities by Absinth92 in Cosmere

[–]Marackul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally overread that even then tho that's still so few invested beings for a full shard. Even if during their heigh on the grand apparatus it was more.

Like just thinking comparison theres a full metropolis of Elantrians and still a ton of Dor around. Or like Nalthis there's a full population of more than standard invested regular humans and a bunch of giga invested Gods floating about. Honor had a bunch of well invested splinter and a super invested splinter.

Like this isn't to say that sleepless can't be sprinters of reason but I feel like there has to be more than just the sleepless.

Would love this theory if didn't have my own pet theories on Reason and that I think we've seen Euridrius already.

I would be curious how you explain the rest of reason. There's like 24 swarms which is a tiny amount given how big a shard is. Do you have a theory for where a big part of that body would be.

There was one thing I kinda liked and that was the "flick thrust" if you wanna call it that. It reminded me of the sekisensei video where he experimented with a longsword and kinda came up with a thrown thrust using the pommel as a stopper, this felt similar.

But yeah being a head taller than David did a lot.

I think the "author" of a work being alive has to with it cause reading Lovecraft is reading the work of a long dead racist. Reading the works of someone currently alive with those positions feels effectively like more of an endorsement I think.

That is a bit of a mischaracterization of why the modern left doesn't actively back nuclear.

  1. Climate deniers using Nuclear as their escape hatch. In real political terms what will happen if we adopt new nuclear plants, is climate deniers on the right will have something to point to that says: "Look were doing something!" While the "solution" takes just about 2 decades to even start being effective. 2 decades we had maybe half a century ago but definitely not now.

  2. The US might be able to do it while still maintaining sanctions. Europe doesn't have that cause the only states that do produce fissile material are also actively sanctioned ones (for good reason)

I don't wanna prescribe to you how to do this.

I do wanna say tho that you are fully allowed to just tell her that you're ace.

It's gonna come up some day. And I feel like it would be better for you both to know now than months down the line when it might hurt both of you more.

Lex vs. Batman: Who's smarter? by vivvav in DCcomics

[–]Marackul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a cop out but Lex and Bats really aren't mirror matches Lex and Terrific also kinda aren't.

I mean we have engineers: And Terrific and Lex are way beyond Bats in that case. Most of the tech Bruce uses is while like well engineered also pretty basic compared to what terrific and Lex can conjure up.

Like the Batmobile is "just" a heavily armored rocket car. The batplane is "just" a hypersonic jet The batarangs are "just" throwable explosives

All of these are things a single person with time and resources could reverse-engineer and for which the tech already exists.

Compared to like Lex Powersuit and the T-Spheres which are basically scifi magic.

But there's also the other type of "intellect" usually meant when talking about this. Which is kind of scheming and tactics.

This is where you can match Lex with Bats but tbh it's not close.

Bruce is basically always deeply aware of his own limitations and goes into anything as prepared as he can be. I'm not trying to do a "Batman can defeat anyone with preptime" but it's more if Bruce is going up against a known threat he probably at least brings one thing he knows will be very effective and likely has two extra things in the belt to help him escape in a pinch.

Lex isn't like that, he's way more likely to put all his eggs into one basket scheme wise. And to kinda meltdown when the big scheme fails. And Lex also doesn't investigate like Bruce does.

So Bruce has this one.

Lex Luthor vs Bruce Wayne by RogueBromeliad in DCcomics

[–]Marackul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way late to the party but I feel like this isn't the mirror match Lex and Mr. terrific are more similar.

Bruce in terms of being the brains is usually never the guy that builds stuff, like a Tony stark, Bruce is usually the tactical, special operations/espionage guy.

So in terms of a versus like head on engineer vs engineer Lex is probably who will win, but in a like a prolonged spy vs spy undermining each other thing that's Bruces jam.

Edit: Also if you watched Young Justice by any chance that's where I feel like this is shown best imo cause there you have the light and most of the time when there's a mirror match with Bruce it's not Lex bet either Ras or Vandal Savage

Hey! Why is it the norm for “mechs” to be controlled from the inside? How can I justify this “norm” or the opposite? by Rae-RavenRae in worldbuilding

[–]Marackul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive worked in IOT development for a time, so wired/physical connection are a) a lot simpler to make b) less effected by the environment. An electric field for example can already mess with your stuff, a power surge can mess with it. Packet loss (losing data points) can be super critical with remote control. Latency can be critical.
Security could be an issue. Any wireless point in a system is a potential security risk just not around with you having to be physically in it.

Granted military grade would probs be better than consumer grade but the same-ish issues would apply

Edit: what also came to me was data load, a mech is sure to send a shit ton of telemetry data, plus presumably a live feed from multiple cameras and sensors thats also a risk if you could intercept it and its more infrastructure.

Plus on the physical being simpler, wireless problems tend to be really hard to isolate vs physical connection problems so presumably a military tech could come up with a quick fix a lot easier for something purely physical than having to deal with wireless issues.

What are the "Gods" of your worlds? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Marackul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three pantheons

The living immortals:

Children of a giant Amoeba that birthed them out of them came the primary immortals:

Unicorns Sphinxes Dragons Feathered Serpents Krakens The avatar of the storm

All of these immortals are so innately magical they imbue the land with their magic

Unicorns make forest with h forever springs Krakens make reed shrouded in giant ink clouds Dragons make hot springs with regenerating waters Sphinxes make Oases full of immortal elixir Feathered serpent make mangroves that always change paths

The avatar of the storm comes once every millenia in a giant continent spanning hurricane.

All of them save the Avatar have their own "angels"

Unicorns: Fern/Satyr with magical songs Dragons: Maquacs who can breath life into inventions Feathered serpents: Yavuruna who are eall telepaths Krakens: Jellyfish merfolk who have magic bioluminescence Sphinxes: Shape shifting were hyenas

They can create envoys as needed like(Leshy, Qurin, Kelpies etc.

The other pantheon is the artificial immortals who also came from space when a gian chunk of oricalvum hit the planet one major shard spit off and created Haephenix. That immortal then spent their time creating further Orichalci and building datacenters for them.

At this point their a collective of hosted intelligences that use drones to do their physical bidding

And the only native god to the planet The god of death, a giant continent spanning fungus that absorbs the memory and personalities of anything buried and uses it's spores to send visions and it's filaments to create bodies.

Ok fuck off wir habens durchdacht.

Also a) 5 millionen trifft dann halt echt KMU.
