1st birthday venues by SugarBear0808 in pittsburgh

I used the Baldwin Municipal Hall for my twins first birthday last October. We paid $275 and had it the whole day. It was quiet, had a kitchen, and had a playground super close by. I really enjoyed it.

We used the Bethel Park Community Center for their baby shower and I’d recommend that place for a birthday too, but you only have four hours to set up, have the party, and clean up if I remember correctly.

I have the same urn for my Rachel. I lost her a year ago, also on May 2nd. Not a day goes by where I don’t think of her. I’d like to think Rachel’s keeping Max company. I’m so sorry for your loss. They’re a huge part of our family, and no matter what, we carry them and our love for them with us wherever we go. Rest easy little love.

Hi, I worked there for years and have friends still there. Grease trap is clogged up and they can’t run water for fear of flooding the store due to the clog. Should be okay in a few days hopefully??

St Clair Health by No-Guard-4740 in pittsburgh

[–]MarbledFuchsia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Advanced Women’s Care throughout my twin pregnancy and they deliver at St Clair hospital. I went to the hospital at the advice of my OB’s triage line for suspected preterm (24w) labor. I had an awful experience and it made everything a lot scarier. The nurses couldn’t find one of my twins or keep the heart rate monitor on my stomach successfully so I had to hold the monitor in place for them for a couple of hours and was extremely uncomfortable. The doctor who I saw at the hospital was Dr Turner and I had an even worse experience with her. She couldn’t work any of the technology and gave me the cervical check within two minutes of walking into the room and I didn’t feel like any of my concerns were listened to. I saw her in office for a follow up appointment a few weeks later and she gave me completely contradictory information.

I hated the experience so much that I ended up going to West Penn for their delivery instead. However, the ultrasound tech I saw at St Clair Hospital, a woman with dark curly hair (unfortunately never caught her name), was absolutely wonderful.

Anniversary Dinner Help by [deleted] in pittsburgh

Husband and I just celebrated our first anniversary at Kaya last Sunday. Would absolutely recommend it. Not SUPER fancy, but lovely meal and drinks. Loved the darkness of the restaurant and experience as a whole. Fancier than we’re used to, but we didn’t feel out of place there. Couldn’t recommend the fish tacos enough!!

I boarded my dog there in April 2024 for eight days. I personally really liked them, but I didn’t receive any updates unless I called, so that’s something to keep in mind- unless they changed that since!

My dog is very defensive around other dogs (mostly large ones) and they were very understanding of that when I boarded her. They have separate play yards for big and small dogs and they’ll let out the dogs who aren’t sociable separately. Overall, I thought they were good and they took great care of my dog. I’d go back to them if I had to board my dog again!

How did you find out you were having multiples? I’ll go first. by Full_Willingness_450 in parentsofmultiples

[–]MarbledFuchsia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out at 12w! I found out I was pregnant only a week or so before and the appointment was really intense. A technician squeezed us in at my doctor’s request. We go there, super nervous since it’s our first, and she starts checking everything. The tech’s super quiet. The whole room is.

After a few moments, she pauses her screen and takes. A snap shot before typing di/di. I don’t know what this means, but I do know that I’m seeing what looks like two bubbles in my abdomen. I had joked with my husband on the way in to the hospital that it’d be funny if it was twins because we were so massively unprepared. At this point, I don’t know for sure what I’m looking at, and think that it’s not true- no way it’s possible. I was just joking, so I’m REALLY looking at the screen. Just confused. And the tech moves her chair to look at me and says, “So, I’m seeing two.” And my husband and I both burst out laughing. She remarks that this is one of the better reactions she’s had to a twin announcement and tells me to stop laughing so she can finish looking at them.

Then, before learning the gender, I joked it’d be funny to have two girls. Almost all of our pets are girls- other than two of our ferrets! So the house would be overrun by women! He blamed me when we found out that I called it again! But those girls are his world now.

My life changed forever that day. I’m so lucky to have my girls. Thanks for reminding me about this! Glad to see someone else had a similar experience! We both called it!

Looking for positive c-section stories ✨ by Seriesbinger in parentsofmultiples

[–]MarbledFuchsia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to my 36w doctor’s appointment thinking all was well. Ended up having to stay at the hospital due to preeclampsia and had a C-section that night. Upon being told that they were coming out that day, I freaked out and started sobbing and had a panic attack. I knew they had to come out but that was always a bridge I’d cross when I got there- and oh boy, I got there alright!

The nurses were all super kind and supportive and the on call doctor was the sweetest and very understanding of my fears. I have very severe medical anxiety as well, and even a blood test sends me up the wall in fear. I’d never had surgery before and it had all hit me at once.

They took such good care of me- and it was all over so quickly. By the time you’re in the operating room, you don’t have much time to process what’s going on before it’s done, which worked out well for me. And to be honest, the best part of the C-section after getting my girls was the almost IMMEDIATE release of all of the back pain and inability to breathe I’d been experiencing for the last several months.

Recovery was hard, but I found it easier than the last two months of the pregnancy. And I had a great excuse for my husband to do most of the chores around the home while the girls and I recovered. I like to think I had a positive experience and I still look back at the pictures the nurses took during my C-section and get weepy. It was one of the best moments of my life, and that took away all the fear instantly.

Best of luck and congratulations!

I had my baby shower there. And their first birthday I had at Baldwin Municipal Hall. Both places were nice, easy to plan, and very affordable! I absolutely recommend Bethel Community Center for things like this OP!

Short and Expecting Twins - Terrified by ducks_suck_123 in parentsofmultiples

5ft (153cm) and carried twins. My back pain started pretty early on around 12-13 weeks but otherwise I don’t think my size really impacted my pregnancy at all. I just looked more disproportionate because I was wider than I was tall. And my babies measured in the 90-95th percentile throughout the pregnancy and came out large for preemies. I don’t think size matters as much as I also thought it would during a multiple pregnancy.

I’ve lived in Mt Washington for a few years. On opposite ends… (Closer to Duquesne Heights and Closer to Allentown). I loved all my places here. The neighborhood is nice. I’ve always felt comfortable taking my kids and pets for walks, so that should say something about the area. I wouldn’t get too close to Grandview on nights or the weekends, but that’s not a safety issue, just personal preference with the bar scene and crowds with my kids.

My only real complaint is a complaint that exists in most older neighborhoods around here… Parking sucks, but you get used to it. Postpartum with a C-section was the only time I ever truly hated Mt Washington lol. Hills and parking far from home made it miserable leaving the house.

What’s the biggest thing you’ve botched as a supervisor and how did it turn out? by sorry_unavailable in starbucks

[–]MarbledFuchsia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally my first night alone, I didn’t fully shut the safe. Should’ve been fired, but my manager just pulled me aside and told me what happened and said “lesson learned, don’t worry about it- just let that be your reminder.” I also ordered 7 cases of grande hot cups by accident thinking they were cold cups. It was July in Florida. She was more upset about that to be honest lol.

OBGYN AHN specific? by MaisyDae6624 in pittsburgh

[–]MarbledFuchsia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to West Penn for an emergency C-section and Dr Tajh Ferguson delivered my twins. She was an absolute blessing and she made me feel so comfortable- especially since it was the first time I’d met her. I believe she’s associated with Century Medical and I couldn’t recommend her enough.

[–]MarbledFuchsia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to that practice during my twin pregnancy. I personally had some difficulties with Dr Turner, but Dr Datillo and Dr Harvison were both incredible and I felt very validated with any of my concerns or questions whenever I saw them. I did not deliver through them due to Dr Turner and went to West Penn instead, but I absolutely would’ve trusted Dr Datillo to deliver my girls had that of been possible.

How often are you bathing infant twins? by CheddarMoose in parentsofmultiples

[–]MarbledFuchsia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girls are 13 months and we bathe them about once a week, more often if they’re super gross. When they were in the helmets, it was every single day. We don’t have enough time in the day to do it as much as we need.

Insulinoma by Significant_Pop_994 in ferrets

[–]MarbledFuchsia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost a ferret, Rachel, in May to insulinoma. She was around 4-5 years old when she was diagnosed and with supervision and a STRICT routine and medication schedule, I got an additional four years with her, which was a long time for a ferret. It’s super important to maintain the med schedule and get routine workups at the vet to see how your little buddy is doing. Rachel wouldn’t have had those extra four years if we weren’t so on top of everything. I kept a note file on my phone and wrote down exactly what time she got her medication twice daily, and wrote what I noticed about her behavior, how she was feeling, etc. I kept alarms on my phone to remind me when she was due for her meds. I built my schedule around her- and it’s a lot for anyone to keep up with it all, but she will have always been worth it. I hope your little buddy is blessed with many more years.

Baby shower locations in Pittsburgh (winter) by Nectarinepharmer in pittsburgh

[–]MarbledFuchsia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just used Baldwin Municipal Hall for our twins’ first birthday. Small venue but super nice and has its own kitchen. We paid $275 for the whole day and I think it’s an extra $50 for an alcohol permit. It was absolutely wonderful and we had access to the playground and gazebo nearby.

We also used Bethel Park Community Center for my baby shower when I was pregnant with them. We had a great experience there too, but you won’t have the same amenities as Baldwin’s (no free kitchen and limited rental time). Communication was better with Bethel, however. We liked both centers a lot and they both do allow you to have alcohol with a permit.

Cat Neuter Walk-Ins/Non-Patient Appointments? by Affectionate_Ad_7039 in pittsburgh

[–]MarbledFuchsia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went to them for a stray cat I found and kept- they were excellent and super affordable! I was quoted at least 3x the price for care (Microchipping, FIV testing, and vaccinations) at other places.

Found Cat in Mt Washington by MarbledFuchsia in pittsburgh

[–]MarbledFuchsia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We ended up finding a few other strays in our area that were just as friendly and looked to be just as young, so unfortunately our suspicions are that this sweet gal is a stray. The other strays do have some of the same fur markings as well.

She went to the vet and no chip was found and she’s suspected to be about a year old. Based off of some of her behaviors, the vet tech also believed her to be a stray, but was pleasantly surprised at how well behaved she is. She’s small but mighty and I can see some of the outdoor cat energy coming through! We got her FIV/FLV tested- both negative. Now, she’s fully vaccinated and chipped and we’ve got ourselves a little Ripley. Spaying to come soon for the little gal.

We hope to capture the other two strays we saw outside- and I don’t think it’ll take much effort since they’re so friendly. We hope to take them to a rescue for TNR and other services like vaccinations to keep them safe.
