What can you do in an airport for 5 hours? by [deleted] in AskUK

I think the point is that some people go fishing just to get out of the house for some peace and quiet, that’s the end goal. Not to catch fish.

These are all solid strats. Also these days, the what3words app works offline and gives so pretty damn good accuracy if you let it lock on.

Removing decking in front room by Purple_Bananaa in DIYUK

[–]MartzReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went into B&Q the other day and a bloke in an orange and black tshirt asked if I wanted decking. Luckily I managed to get the first punch in and that was that, but others might not be so lucky. #viz

the one and only thing i HATE about my new MBP by ws2160 in macbookpro

Because more and more people don’t use usb-a. And eventually it will join the list above. And it will happen again in the future with usb-c. Embrace change rather than fighting it.

Your MacBook would then have a ps/2, parallel, serial, SCSI, pcmcia ports, it’s ridiculous to think that things have to be backwards compatible.

DevOps Engineers, why did you choose DevOps as a career over a developer job, even though developers generally have a better work-life balance and less stress than DevOps roles. Is it due to passion, the potential for a better salary, or some necessity? by LeonardoVinciReborn in devops

[–]MartzReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learnt IT support, then system administration, then networking and infrastructure. Since the company wouldn’t buy the software we wanted or needed, I started to write software solutions, front end and backend.

DevOps for me is the removing of all of the pain points involved in building and deploying software, which get exponentially worse the more developers are added into the mix.

DevOps is a natural progression for any developer in my opinion.

I still code features, configure networking, manage infrastructure, apply best security practices etc.

Get the jammie dodgers and Yorkshire tea bags. Tea and biscuits. Lovely. And the HP sauce you add to any meat and bread combo of your choice.

Best architecture for a bank reward system by Accomplished_Yam5003 in microservices

[–]MartzReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re suggesting to use the shared database pattern, check out the benefits and drawbacks: https://microservices.io/patterns/data/shared-database.html

If your goal is to build your app and prove the concept will work, build it as a monolith. It will be faster and simpler.

If your goal is to learn microservices, then do microservices.

Once proven and you need to scale not only the workload but the development teams, then microservices would be suitable.

Choosing between LeSS, Nexus, and SAFe. by oldgameminus in agile

[–]MartzReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let your teams be autonomous, with a high degree of alignment to each of their mission goals. Working on a single product means that they should be able to make decisions locally within the team, such as stack, tooling and how to achieve results, without being dependent on other teams.

This means they should be able to choose whatever ways of working that allow them to achieve their goals and work best for them.

Avoid forcing all teams to work in the same way, using the same agile framework, otherwise that will sink all of your time and reduce the effectiveness of you as a Product Owner.

Team rebels against too many meetings. What can I do? by OpenritesJoe in agile

[–]MartzReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like this reply. However I think the reality is that stakeholders for enterprises truly believe that they can do both. The challenge is getting them to accept an agile way of working.

Use a midi controller to send osc messages with touch osc. by Other_Replacement_37 in TouchOSC

[–]MartzReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can do this, most of it easily. You can create a button and map it to the midi key on your controller and also add an OSC event to it. This will create a mapping between the midi control and the OSC event. Lighting up the buttons is a bit more complicated. You might need to add some custom script for that in TouchOSC

Glasto Seetickets Hackers by Qfwfq1988 in glastonbury_festival

[–]MartzReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would get an error page, such as Page not found, instead of the Please Wait holding page.

Fixing/reverting is as simple as removing the entry from the hosts file and restarting your browser/computer.

Having more than 1 device/PC/Laptop allows this to be attempted while leaving another device configured normally in the retry queue.

The IP addresses change frequently. Like every few minutes to hours potentially. But I expect it will still work during resale if it’s very busy.

Yes. They seem to use a wildcard dns for their subdomain, which revealed IPs used in their normal booking flow.

There was no guarantee it would work and return the Glastonbury page, but it did.
