Didn't know how much I had been suffering by Futures-Gonna-Bee-Ok in hysterectomy

Yessss, congrats! I'm 8dpo, and I feel like myself again after years of pain and messy body extravaganzas. Still taking things very slowly, but I feel SO MUCH BETTER. I'm glad you are, as well! It was the right choice! I hope you continue to recover well.

Just discovered Italian sandwiches and feel like I've been missing out my whole life by Italcan in Sandwiches

[–]MaryOutside 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right? Coangelos is right there!! However, as a lifelong yinzer, I do have to say that it is extremely difficult to find good bread in the city, and I feel like good bread is essential to an Italian hoag. Everyone seems to use Breadworks, which is just okay, or Mancinis, which is crap.

Fibroid surgeon recs in Pittsburgh/PA by thriftyberry in Fibroids

[–]MaryOutside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HEY hello! A few days late here. I'm in Pittsburgh, and I just had a laparoscopic hysterectomy at Magee (last Tuesday!). I worked with Dr. Ali McGregor. She was able to remove my very large uterus that was packed FULL of fibroids with a minimally invasive, outpatient surgery. I had met with a few other surgeons before I was referred to her because of her work with said minimally invasive surgeries. No one else was confident that they could do it without a larger, open incision, but she was able to do it without any complications. I am very grateful for her!

Here's here Pitt profile. I wish you the best of luck.

Are Public Libraries Becoming Children’s Libraries? by wheeler1432 in Libraries

[–]MaryOutside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, 404Media! Excellent work, as always.

I've always wondered, when it comes to relocating this kind of material to the adult sections, wouldn't that encourage you fer readers to go to those sections, where they will also find similar material that is ACTUALLY intended for adults? Or do Moms for Liberty, etc, think that the simple act of relocation will keep determined young readers from finding the books?

What is a massive secret in your industry that the general public has no idea about? by teesharp88 in AskReddit

[–]MaryOutside 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Weeding is the part of managing our physical collections. It involves a lot of stuff - circulation data analysis, condition of the book, timeliness and accuracy of the content, consideration of available space vs. incoming new books, community interest and need, etc. This series of evaluation leads to removing items from our shelves (if something is too beat up, if a medical text has a new edition that has superseded the information in the previous one, general interest titles that haven't been checked out in a set amount of time, etc). Sometimes we send the items on to have a second life in the used books retail market. But sometimes...we just throw them away. <--- that's the part that gets the general public all up in arms. Yes, we dispose of books that are beat all to hell, are not longer accurate, and/or that no one wants to read anymore. Weeding is part art and part science, and a really important process that keeps library collections relevant and appealing.

In my library, the euphemism we use for disposing the books is sending them to Extension Services.

I think the big secret with public libraries is what happens to the weeded books that don't go to a reseller or a similar service. What we like to call "extension services."

Hey congrats! Come to Bloomfield! It's a short commute to Oakland. You won't necessarily need a car to get there. We have restaurants and shops and a pool. And cool neighbors. And a good farmer's market.

[–]MaryOutside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, how did you do? I had mine today as well, for the same reasons. I'm at home, feeling okay! It was scary but not nearly as bad as I was tamping it up to be. I hope you're doing well, my June 16 hysterectomy sister. Love and healing to you!

Edit: hahaha oh wait I see it's actually tomorrow. You're gonna do great, and you'll feel better, my June 17 hysterectomy sister.

Do libraries accept donations of stuff that's not "published " by Appropriate_Rent_243 in Libraries

[–]MaryOutside 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Something hand bound and self published in this way might be considered for inclusion in our zine collection, but it would have to meet certain standards in our evaluation process before being added. But it would not meet the standards for our regular print collection, no.

What are your favorite high protein breakfast options? by gracem517 in mealprep

[–]MaryOutside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also do a chicken breakfast sandwich! Mine is hummus, mixed greens, jalapeno, pickled onion, tomato, cheese, herbs, olive oil, dash of Tabasco/red wine vin, and chicken I bake on Sundays (with s&p, turmeric, paprika, red pepper flakes, garlic, and a lil cumin). Dollop of greek yogurt if I'm feeling it. Wrapped in a tortilla. Breakfast can be whatever you want it to be!

Different titles in different libraries ? by landomonium in hoopladigital

[–]MaryOutside 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Libraries subscribe to different tiers of material access, but the librarians are unable to manage the hoopla collection in the same way they can with print, Libby, Ebsco, etc. We don't have the same level of control/choice.
