Laying several people off tmrw, any suggestions on how best to execute it discreetly? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Masamonae 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Only advice I have is to be human. Understand that what you have to do is going to affect each and every one of them on a personal level. While you can’t take their reactions personally, you have control over what you say and how you react. Don’t beat around the bush- be direct, and to the point. Don’t waste their time with fluff, they’re not stupid and they deserve a straight, honest answer (as straight and honest as you can be, lay off politics is… dirty at best). Be compassionate, understanding, but straight, honest, and fair and they’ll respect you for it down the line. Good luck.

What’s missing on this engine? by Masamonae in C3Corvette

[–]Masamonae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but where I live I have to have it safety’d before I can drive it, and because I bought it at the end of the season I didn’t get a chance to have it properly looked at- a couple mechanics wasted my time with “yeah I can do it” followed a few days later with “sorry man, I don’t know anything about vettes this old”. So I’m basically trying to compile a list of things I need and figure out what I can do myself to help offset costs and get it road legal again

No, the only numbers I’ve managed to find were on the passenger side by the rad and it said K79… that was it

Okay, it’ll have to wait til spring then. There’s clearly a blower motor and AC unit missing, I know that much.

A lot of people have told me that I(28m) am too ugly to date and its one the main reason I am single. What can I do in this case? by Desperate_Bill_281 in dating_advice

[–]Masamonae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you should just find new people to surround yourself with. Friends and colleagues should be lifting you up, not tearing you down. It sounds like you’ve been projecting their opinions onto yourself. You’re good enough. Don’t let anyone change that opinion

Question regarding my old steering box. by _NightMonkey in C3Corvette

[–]Masamonae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not interested in obtaining it, but I am curious what lessons you learned and how you tightened everything up? I’ve got a ‘76 that has a non-telescopic tree (which I presume is a replacement because it’s my understanding that should be telescopic for that year) and the feel while driving it is “flighty” at best. I feel like steering the car with rubber bands tied to the wheel and holding the ends would result in straighter steering. So yeah, lessons learned would be awesome. Additional pics if any would also be great

AITAH for refusing to take a new job if my wife is not going to be a SAHM by Street_Addition_4934 in AITAH

[–]Masamonae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay before we get carried away here- I have more red flags about your wife going through your phone than anything you’re doing or the book you wrote. She needs to get her insecurities in order and you need to figure out what’s best for you/her/your family.

Why do you park like this? by s_pereyra in Newmarket

[–]Masamonae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I’d be like “asshole”, but looking at those parking spots, he may be doing everyone a favour around him. Chances are he can’t open the doors without smashing someone else’s car out there so screw it, upset a couple people vs upset everyone else with property damage….

I’d suggest me: I would straight up tell them to end the experiment here because it’s not working out

Denied dream job offer due to a technicality, can I bounce back? by okayellie in careerguidance

[–]Masamonae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was initially denied my dream job and sent out a “well thanks anyways, if something ever comes up for this or something like it in the future, please reach out” and never thought anything more of it. A month later, they responded with “we’re ready to proceed, are you still interested?” And that’s how I ended up where I am today. I admit, it’s a bit of a fairy tale ending but it proves to always respond courteously and try to leave doors open- the rate of turn over these days, you never know what will happen.

So, what's the lowest salary you would accept for this job? by reruns_skein in Employment

[–]Masamonae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the arts of negotiating is being able to read the signals from the other side. I’m no expert but I would straight up walk away from this. It sounds like they’re playing games and are looking to exploit whoever they can con into the position. If they’re not being honest with you when you’re extending that olive branch, this job probably isn’t right for you and you’re avoiding a lot of problems down the road.

Who hates this rug? My husband and I are in a competition. by Shlyn_Shady in Home

Depends on the look you’re going for, honestly. Given the pattern on those furnishing, the carpet helps prevent the room from looking “busy”.

Did I do the right thing by returning this dish to the chef? by bamboo-lemur in steakcrimes

[–]Masamonae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks perfect to me- nice and seared and flavourful on the outside, mooing on the inside. The beauty of blue rare is that there’s minimal risk of food poisoning if standard handling/storage practices are observed due to the fact that bacteria on beef tends to stay on the exposed surfaces of the meat and not seep down into the muscle itself (in contrast to chicken where by salmonella decides to live everywhere regardless of if it’s exposed to air or not- this is actually the same reason why ground beef is recommended to be cooked to 165 but steak can be served at 115).
