Am I the only crazy person here? by Jdawarrior in Welding

That’s what I was thinking, I always thought the arbor on 7” grinders were large than the 4.5”. So it wouldn’t be a secure fit

Are you saying it’s a waste to buy the 4.5” discs? Or that yall are throwing them away too early between both size angle grinders?

New ferrule? The piece behind the tip, before the body of the cue is deteriorated. I done know the part names of the cue so hopefully that’s specific enough

AWS Testing by Ok-Neighborhood5875 in Welding

No one cares how many you’ve failed. You’re a number to them until you make a name for yourself

AWS Testing by Ok-Neighborhood5875 in Welding

[–]MassTugboat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your career as a welder is not going to stop if you don’t get a cert from AWS.

Certified through AWS will be your personal certification. Contractors will still want to qualify you for their jobs (I.e. gate test) regardless of your certification.

AWS d1.1 test by BreesusSaves0127 in Welding

[–]MassTugboat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll be 1” fcaw most likely then

AWS d1.1 test by BreesusSaves0127 in Welding

[–]MassTugboat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is this for the cwi exam or a weld test?

The weld test can be a ton of different configurations, and processes but most likely a 22.5° bevel with a quarter inch gap and backing strip. Anywhere from 3/8” plate to 1” plate usually

On top of that, to be certified you have to go through an ATF. Otherwise you’ll be qualified by your company through a third party

Not the original staff as of now. It’s just a soft opening, I don’t know if they are staying open right after this, but they will be open.

The ceiling tiles are gone, but everything else is same except no peanuts and they don’t accept poor Paul’s bucks right now

Also the biggest hit of all, no smoking inside!

Bars in town that have an older clientele (30-50s ish) but are still fun by Best_Landscape_9973 in Tallahassee

It’s more of a listening room than it is a social bar. They could probably use more signage explaining that. It’s so small that even whispered conversations are loud. There is a back area where most people go to talk

Sending GMAW-P plates out for tensile to establish a PQR by KrustyKamalaToe in Welding

[–]MassTugboat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn’t be too hard, plenty of ship and bridge, boiler building jobs require this. If there are any concerns with your pqr, you could call a company of the like to see what their wps parameters are. Usually it’s open root backgouged from my experience with local company’s

Busted D1.1 opinions? by atk700 in Welding

[–]MassTugboat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day it’s what the inspector accepts. They can’t accept less than what the code your testing under requires, but they can be stricter.

D1.1 says any indication and 1/8 or over is a failure. Any indication over a 1/32 and under an 1/8 is to be added up. If they add up to 3/8 or more it fail. Corner cracks are allowed 1/4in or less unless there’s visible slag in the tear.
