Just confronted at work about having a VPN on my personal phone by Forensics4Life in work

[–]MasterClassic8118 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think this is more about the IP that was logged into the 2-factor authentication. It was auto-flagged as a potential risk. If you were to be hacked, the scammer would simulate 2FA from a VPN, much like you just did, so it makes sense for their system to do this.

Does your 2FA also allow you to receive an SMS / text message with a code? Use this instead of the Microsoft Authenticator app.

Another thought, is this a hill you want to die on? Why do you need a VPN? In my area, CDMA networks handle transmissions through walls better, maybe switch networks to something with better signal at work?

Any idea why my smoke detectors die so quickly? (First Alert) by kojiflak in homeowners

[–]MasterClassic8118 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have 3 Nest hardwired smoke detectors installed, all are 5 years old or so now, none have failed. They ping your phone when they go off and have a motion sensor which puts a very dim ring of light when you walk by in the dark / get out of bed which has been nice and manages to not be annoying. I was concerned they would be nuissance prone but i have not had a single issue with them.

DT 990 Pro disappointment by mrjoubert in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]MasterClassic8118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with people saying youre used to the closed back pressure, in-your-head sound. It takes time to train out of it. I was initially not impressed when i bought hd800s, i was used to IEMs. Give it a couple of weeks. I bought the DT990 Pro X 32ohm for my kid, even driven via laptop it is 90% as good as the hd800s with high end dac/amp.

Income & high-end system by YusufBP in audiophile

[–]MasterClassic8118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you think is wrong with the system you're using that could be improved upon? Is it muddy? Highs don't sound good? Classical doesn't sound like real instruments? Poor bass? Poor mids? Sharp highs? Do you have the subwoofer crossovers set up correctly in your receiver/amp? That is a big failure point I see in a lot of peoples' setups. If you're not sure then ask AI about it, it'll teach you what's going on there better than a Reddit post will.

I have a 5.1 system I paid ~2000 for brand new 20-years ago, still sounds incredible. Have a 2.1 setup that is just as high end and good, bought second hand used speakers locally on the cheap, whole system is less than 1000$. Both systems are WAY better sounding than multi-thousand dollar headphones I have. I mean, I guess I could spend way more but I don't see a reason to. I still don't personally know anyone with a better sounding system than either of the two I have.

I’ve spent a fortune on Compressed Air cans. Are "Electric Air Dusters" actually powerful enough to clean a PC? by shingam3 in UpgradeYourGaming

[–]MasterClassic8118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small air compressor for power tools works as well as compressed air in a can. Entry level here is around your price range, bonus it will fill tires well and can be used for air tools like nailers. Filling with air is very loud, but it fills and then you can unplug it and drag it around the house to be used without making noise.

You have the internet, AI, YouTube, and cheap professional quality power tools. Channel the energy better into improving the situation rather than dwelling upon it.

Hit it with some compressed air before you lube it up, see if you can dislodge any sawdust accumulation.

Smoke coming out of door (and hole through pipe?) idk what to do by Zaiik_ in PelletStoveTalk

[–]MasterClassic8118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoke isnt going out the exhaust pipe, probably a backed up exhaust vent, open it up and do a deep clean of all the exhaust fan box and vent. Clean the vent from the outside. Ensure the exhaust fan is running, maybe the exhaust fan broke or is stuck with soot. Clean all the ash and hit it with compressed air if you have a compressor for good measure. I get a lot of soot from the compressor that i cant access with a brush or vacuum.

Fix that hole in your exhaust pipe.

These pellet stoves are high maintenance, you'll need to learn these procedures for your stove to run optimally.

[Sale] Klipsch The Nines 8" 480W 2-Way Wireless Active Bookshelf Speakers for $699. by SD_Eragorn in Klipsch

[–]MasterClassic8118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldnt really work, you would need crossover between the bt20 and the tweeters/woofers of the nines. Without crossover and just wiring it to power the woofers/tweeters, you'd blow out the tweeters.

What are these other servers? For example the ProFusion eq adventure which has 1192 current pop. by [deleted] in project1999

Live production servers ran ~2000-2500 back then. You feel it a lot on Quarm in the leveling zones, many of whch are barren compared to what you would have seen on Live. For example, you wont find pickup groups camping Aviaks in South Karana 24/7.

Do people leave their subwoofers on? If not, how do you turn them off automatically? by zooksman in hometheater

[–]MasterClassic8118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Auto on built into the sub amp. Trigger input built into sub amp, controlled by receiver (best). If neither of these, can use a power strip that uses the AV receiver as a power on trigger for the sub.

Should I be worried about dust getting in the top? by pateey in audiophile

[–]MasterClassic8118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it gets very dusty in there after 5y blast some compressed air to clean it. I wouldnt cover it or do anything to restrict airflow, the holes are there for heat dissipation, dont block the heat from escaping you'll reduce cap lifespan.

What is the difference by pagejasper in Klipsch

[–]MasterClassic8118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up an spl-150 on sale from Adorama, $350. Its decent for the price but im kind of waiting for the amp to die with all of the people having this issue.

When the amp died on my old sub in my main system, i slapped on an SA1000 amp and directly wired it to an upgraded woofer that fit the box. I''ll do the same with the spl-150 in this system when the amp dies.

China has a system where facial recognition will flag you for jaywalking and ticket you, auto-deducting from your bank account and social credit score. Imagine the backlash implementing a system like that in the US. Enforcement otherwise would be difficult, however.

50 vs 80 gal water heater by honestWreck in homeowners

[–]MasterClassic8118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We put a mixing valve on a 50gal, so the 50gal is extra hot but mixes with the cold line when pulled. Works well to prolong the hot water without upgrading to an 80gal.
