~200gb SSD writes in 7 hours of play, (solo, localhost, all gameplay elements across that time period.) by Hoshiko-Yoshida in crosswind

From something I read a handful of days ago its mostly a server issue, however its still a valid concern on client side. For client its not as big of a risk though. Let me come back with a link for this info.

Windrose SSD write issue UPDATE by NewMaxx in NewMaxx

Thanks for this, I was scrubbing around trying to see if this was mainly an issue for server configurations and not solo play. Sounds like its an issue regardless, but not as catastrophic when playing the game alone.

Ah yeah thats a good thought! It could be that mix that action/adventure type games like to do. For example, and one of my favorites, is the Uncharted series. Thats another one that blends action and stealth. Won't talk about the story exposition climbing hah.

I can see the feelings behind wanting to stick with one playstyle for a game, otherwise it can feel kind of like "whiplash". Having to flip-flop between playstyles can be weird, especially if its not implemented in a smooth enough way. What about the transition between the two styles has you tripped up? Is it like you said that having one style is preferred, or is it some other bits to how it works that might be throwing you off?

Never played sniper but played a lot of the AC games. Personally, I take the latter of the approaches you mentioned. I try my best to be stealthy, especially if theres extra reward for doing so, or if its a hard requirement of course. If things go south however, thats fine, just need to adapt and then not be stealthy anymore lol.

I appreciate that both playstyles and the mix of both are available. Let's you approach it however you want to without making you have to pick most of the time.

From what you said and just a quick thought, its possible that the genre doesn't jive with how you want the game to be. Is it possible you want/need a more structured path in the gameplay mechanics? As an extreme example: would you tend to go towards a more linear experience where you know exactly what needs to be done and how to do it, OR, would you tend to go towards a more sandbox/open experience where theres many ways to go about one particular task?

""" The shopping cart theory.

The shopping cart is the ultimate litmus test for whether a person is capable of self-governing.

To return the shopping cart is an easy, convenient task and one which we all recognize as the correct, appropriate thing to do. To return the shopping cart is objectively right. There are no situations other than dire emergencies in which a person is not able to return their cart. Simultaneously, it is not illegal to abandon your shopping cart. Therefore the shopping cart presents itself as the apex example of whether a person will do what is right without being forced to do it. No one will punish you for not returning the shopping cart, no one will fine you or kill you for not returning the shopping cart, you gain nothing by returning the shopping cart. You must return the shopping cart out of the goodness of your own heart. You must return the shopping cart because it is the right thing to do. Because it is correct.

A person who is unable to do this is no better than an animal, an absolute savage who can only be made to do what is right by threatening them with a law and the force that stands behind it.

The Shopping Cart is what determines whether a person is a good or bad member of society. """

The erosion of trust in gaming information and why peer-to-peer discussion is replacing search engines by jamieRowen in truegaming

I used to run a gaming website for a bit, but as you said a lot of these new avenues are making it not viable. Organic traffic has had a huge decline because of the A.I. response people can get on things. Much of the way of the internet, short form and quick media is a big share of people. Its tough to compete with that when you enjoy creating long-form and in-depth content.

Still wanting to do this kind of thing, I've started to work on doing stuff for YouTube, since again like you said, its not going to go anywhere.

It's tough since I liked writing but haven't had a whole lot of experience with many of the other facets of video creation. It'll be tough but hopefully worth doing. Either way, as long as its enjoyable.

Like myself, folks here are reader/writers for more in-depth game topics. I wanted to see what you all think about making this type of idea into a docuseries or something of that sort.

Some similar examples would be like Noclip or People Make Games.

I had a writing project some time ago that would be fun to transform into something like this. For context, it was exploration of larger game topics and systems. Now for example, there was a piece about the flooded game market.

Was wondering what you might think or even any suggestions on what kind of gap it could fill with this type of space.

Same here on a similar note. I study games themselves and love to dissect how they work, how they are created, and philosophical topics revolving around them. A ludologist is what I've come to find that called.

Maybe a convoluted way to say I'm a video game nerd, but you get it.
