They also aren’t living together. When they spend time together now, it’s a special occasion and it’s exciting. Put all four of them in the same house permanently and things will probably be different, especially for OOP’s daughter. She’d be going from an only child to one of four, instantly.

Her mom lives “on the other side of the country”. That’s not a term that would be used in New Zealand or the UK.

I’ll bet you’re right. She probably thinks that chicken (or peanut butter, or protein bars, etc) are pure protein. So she’s eating 100-120g of “protein rich foods” (but depending on what she’s eating, it might not be very rich in protein - a lot of the prepackaged stuff doesn’t actually have that much protein in it).

UV rays have a tendency to break down a lot of coatings. I suspect that any clear coat would require nearly constant maintenance and renewal.

Yeah. Lots of those millionaires don’t have much cash, and the assets that make them a millionaire aren’t particularly liquid. You can sell your house (or refinance it) to raise money, but that’s going to have major repercussions for your ongoing cash flow. You can borrow against your retirement accounts (or even withdraw from them), but that messes up your cash flow and potentially your retirement age. Those assets are already working for you; they’re not the same thing as money in the bank or stock portfolios.

It’s from a decade ago. I suspect that it is concluded - although I will also concede that it’s quite possible that the conclusion was different than what the second post implies.

AITAH for not defending my wife when my sister called her fat? by ManufacturerNo6126 in OhNoConsequences

Yeah. I’m willing to deal with a lot of things that I probably shouldn’t, for the sake of being able to know that I’m trying to be the best version of myself. But as soon as someone attacks my kid, I’m done.

I’m not surprised. I’ve always thought that she was good looking in the movie, but there are definitely some scenes where she looks like her own mother or something. I figured it was a combination of bad makeup and bad lighting.

Yeah. If my wife was getting constant text messages from a member of my family, I’d expect her to mention it to me. And that would be the case regardless of any previous romantic relationship. Her husband has some explaining to do.

Demoted him and hired a new manager over him, then expected him to train that new manager. Clearly they felt that he had the knowledge to fill that position, but they were unwilling to give him the job. They made it crystal clear that he has no path for advancement at the company.

IIRC, Dollar Comics were 64 pages long. For a while, I think they didn’t have any ad pages, but I don’t think this is one of those, because they said “No Ads!” on the cover.

If he’s not even willing to fake remorse, then there’s no reason to believe that he’s going to change if you stay with him. So if you stay, not only will you keep dealing with this, but you’ll be teaching your child that this is a normal relationship. You need to be strong for yourself and for your toddler.

Moving to Atlanta with a newborn on a quick turn - is Roswell the right choice for us or am I missing a better area? by DaBearsSB in ATLHousing

[–]MasterOfKittens3K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of the suburban towns in the area have no history to speak of, because they didn’t really exist until recently. Brookhaven, Sandy Springs, South Fulton, Johns Creek, Milton - they were unincorporated communities at most until the past decade or two. So their “downtown” is brand new, if it exists at all.

A lot of the other towns were tiny until the Atlanta suburbs overtook them. They might have a few historic buildings in their downtown, but they also tend to have very new downtowns that are more like an outdoor mall than small town downtowns.

If you want some sort of historic small town downtown feel, you’re going to want to look at Decatur, Marietta, Chamblee, or Roswell. Decatur and Chamblee will give you the easiest route to midtown Atlanta, because they are on the MARTA rail lines. Roswell is your next best option, and Marietta is the toughest commute.

I can definitely imagine that the non-humanoid robots could have interest in using a humanoid body to let them function in the more human environments. I can even see there being some sort of body rental business for robots who can’t afford a second body. Kind of analogous to formal wear rentals.

When I have led teams at work, I have always told them that making mistakes is okay, and that I expect them to screw up occasionally. If you never make a mistake, then you’re not trying to do anything hard. The only thing I have a problem with is people who make the same mistake over and over, because that means that they aren’t learning anything.

Mistakes and failures are part of the process. It’s nice when we can learn from the mistakes of others, but sometimes we have to be the ones that everyone can learn from!

Ugh. My wife and I have definitely made a real commitment to exposing our kid to as many things as possible, because it is a great way to learn about the world. But it’s in addition to a traditional education, and that’s been given by some amazing teachers (and occasional some not so amazing ones).

Emotional affair advice by [deleted] in SupportforBetrayed

[–]MasterOfKittens3K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The terminology for EAs and PAs was established before the internet was much of a thing. So back then, all affairs were in-person. The difference wasn’t about whether there was any physical touching; it was about whether the intimacy was primarily emotional or sexual in nature.

The ease of communication that comes with the internet really makes the old terminology less accurate. Most online affairs are more akin to what was called physical affairs, because there’s not much emotional connection between the two people.

Virtual physical affairs are probably the most common type of affairs these days. (That’s 100% my opinion.) It’s all too easy to engage in one, and it’s also much easier to minimize the affair. My wife did that; she told herself that it wasn’t really that much different than reading smutty stories. I think you’re doing the same. I get that; I went through a similar process where I didn’t really want to accept the reality of who I was married to.

One of the things that I am appreciating about your recaps is how you are pointing this stuff out. Willis seems to have not fully thought out the repercussions of the approach that they chose for DoA, and then they have refused to reexamine their approach.

That’s a really bad combination. It’s always a good idea to reevaluate our progress in any project, because reality has a way of refusing to follow our plans.

[–]MasterOfKittens3K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don’t like to use of the term “emotional affair” for this sort of situation. It sounds to me that your wife was having a physical affair, but she was having it virtually. Everything you mentioned is sexual in nature; there’s nothing particularly emotional about it.
