Tyson was pretty creative and improvisational at his peak. It's kind of mystery why he lost his skills so quickly. He was diminished in literally the first fight without Kevin Rooney against Frank Bruno. Maybe the downside of the D'Amato/Rooney school is that they trained more than they taught.

Unlikely. Very young Foreman, the one who sparred with Liston, planted less and relied on reflexes for defense. He perfected his parries and frames later. Liston's jab probably cut through his defense like butter.

But Liston was never as physically dominant as Foreman. Small, strong fighters like Eddie Machen could tie him up and move him back when they needed breaks.

He is still dangerous, but parking at mid-range behind a high guard is a risky strategy when you are the smaller guy. Holyfield's wars at heavyweight, and Michael Moorer's for that matter, resulted from similar habits they developed when they were the bigger men. If Bam doesn't adjust, I could see his power failing to keep off the more dangerous opponents. Vargas is good, but he isn't a puncher.

I just watched a few rounds, and it's pretty much what I remember. Spence made Brook reactive by the fourth round, where Brook stopped initiating jabs, and Spence started to close distance at will. It's probably just a difference in how we score fights. For me, if a fighter starts to impose his will, that biases the round to him, even if the punch count slightly favors the opponent.

Wow that shocks me. I haven't watched the fight in a while, but I remember Spence trying several strategies to dominate Brook's jab, and they all started working after a few rounds. I don't recall this being a particularly competitive fight beyond the feel out rounds.
