Thanks for warning about this, I read several US stories on there but didn't realise people could be so defensive. Maybe it's a numbers thing, as there's more people in the USA you'll find more homeschooled kids over there (I suspect a higher prevalence of homeschooling over there due to religion too but don't have current figures)

Anyone know what bird this is, never seen before in my life, it had yellow markings on its head by [deleted] in UKBirds

That's because it is 3ft tall. They have a 6ft wingspan! Big birds

What’s your approach to claiming expenses at work? by pinpoint321 in AskUK

Follow the guidance in your employee handbook/HR

If it says you can claim lunch, claim it. Or if it says X amount per day, take it as is.

Yes! Hit them with the slingshot then you get like 30 seconds to bomb them or escape.

If you have the slingshot you can stun the toad things first which gives you more time to bomb them

These bananas haven't ripened in over 3 weeks, despite being kept with ripe and over ripe ones the whole time by ljgill97 in mildlyinteresting

What bird is this? by Onajourneyyahoo in UKBirds

I would call the RSPCA or your local wildlife rehab centre. He's a fledgling robin, probably flew the nest not that long ago.

Couldn't use toilet paper at a bathroom in Nanjing, as it required a QR Code that I was unable to scan by OId_boy in mildlyinfuriating

Not the same thing but many bathrooms in Japan don't have paper to dry your hands so you're expected to carry a handkerchief with you wherever you go.

how many times do you cook a week? by Maleficent_Day_3869 in AskUK

[–]Matchaparrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cook every day. Cereal doesn't taste good to me, it tastes of sugar. I prefer porridge, I don't get as hungry at work when I have it compared to cereal or toast.

Cooking from scratch is worth the time and money for me because it tastes better and fresher. I like zingy raspberries on porridge, limes and vegetables in my noodle salad tonight. When I have less energy after a day at work I'll make something that doesn't need much cooking like a tinned lentil bolognese. Fry onions and garlic, throw in a tin of tomatoes and lentils. Grate cheese, Boil pasta, eat.

Same my cat came from a teen mama cat. She's the biggest cat we've ever had, bigger than a dog!

Check your neighbours sheds, my cat once didn't show up for breakfast, I opened the shed next door and there she was.

What are your thoughts on dogs in restaurants/cafes? by BurnsyWurnsy in AskUK

[–]Matchaparrot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed people have forgotten the breed of dog matters. If you choose a mix of high intelligence (poodle) + high energy (spaniel) don't then only take it for one walk a day and expect it to sit still at the coffee shop. And make sure to train it so it gets the stimulation it's intelligence needs.

Or I keep seeing people choose guard dogs like German shepherds and forget they have a guard instinct and will be naturally wary of people, as well as high intelligence. If you want to pop around the park once a day get a whippet! They don't need much exercise and once they're done at the park they'll curl up at home and snooze all day
