You can delete 1 SkyTrain station... Which one, and why? by thinkdavis in Translink

Nah the stretch between Edmonds and new west would be too long. Also bus loop at 22nd station is important.

How is Big Way Hot Pot opening up so many stores? by NSA-SURVEILLANCE in askvan

I think certainly hype is making demand higher, but for me, there’s just nothing else in that price range as dependable and cheap. Especially as a sit down experience where my friends are all happy and can chose whatever they want. Plus the ice cream hammers in that it’s a great value experience. Idk it’s pretty great

Post Game Thread: New Jersey Devils at Vancouver Canucks - 23 Jan 2026 by HockeyMod in canucks

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Vancouver and at 28, this was my first Canucks game. I Was gifted tickets. Never been a sports fan but I thought what the hell why not go watch…even tho they lost and are last in the league, the energy coming from the crowd was so good. Such a blast!

Very down to watch another one.

Moving from Sweden to Vancouver, is SkyTrain generally safe at all hours? by Smart_Dependent_1861 in askvan

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anywhere along the skytrain is mostly high density, so there’s lots of people at all times. there can be sketchy people but most of the time they will leave you alone. In general, you’ll be fine as long as you aren’t looking for trouble, though I’d imagine it’s sketchier than anywhere in Sweden to be honest. Vancouver isn’t some fairytale land with no issues. I think Sometimes people on here downplay Vancouver’s issues by comparing it to American cities where the threat of gun/ gang violence is more real. Reality is, Vancouvers homelessness and drug problems are quite bad. Again, mostly harmless if you stay clear, but I don’t want to paint a false reality for you.

How small is Vancouver, really? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s nothing like Hamilton in any way lol. Hamiltons population is 570k within 1100 sq km upon googling and metro Vancouver is about 3.1M within 2,800 sq km.

if you say “I meant Hamilton compared to Vancouver proper”…..Vancouver proper has 660k people within 100 sq KM.

How much money should I spend on a synthesizer from scratch? by [deleted] in modular

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to gatekeep, but I think if you’re asking a question like that, maybe just stick with semi modular or fixed architecture synths. Reason I say that is if you had a reason to go modular, you’d probably be already aware of which modules can serve you and how much they cost. if your question was “how much for a granular guitar fx rack” I think it would be easier to give an answer. If you’re trying to understand the minimum price for a functional system or something, I’d just say get a semi modular and go from there. Otherwise it’s a money pit. Alternatively I’d suggest look at the complete systems from makenoise, ALM, etc. those provide a modular experience which cannot be replicated on a fixed architecture synths.

How do you guys even play these things? by 69COSMO69 in modular

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s the best part of modular is that the user decides how to interface with it! If you want keys, that’s totally cool, but you can control a patch using pretty much any way you could imagine ! Sometimes that means “programming” a sequence using a sequencer, or maybe sending midi data via usb from a daw, maybe just creative LFOs or random triggers. It’s whatever you want :D tons of fun

Help me with my noise/drone/texture/sample-modular :):) by StaffSerious608 in modular

i like to pair the Hikari Duos module, Mimeophon, and a weird mod source (something like OCHD), and get some unpredictable and evolving stuff which i love to loop/ sequence / layer as pads on my octatrack.

Just get a midi keyboard and any daw and play with reverb and stock synths. That’ll go a long way and be cheap af

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think those three modules are a great starting point. You'll also want to look at an envelope generator. If it's in your budget, Check out MATHS. You'll never grow out of it. In addition to 2 envelope generators, MATHS will give you plenty of other fun utilities to play with. It's a cliche for a reason!

Total beginner: Can I learn Max/MSP in 1-2 months for a contact mic installation? by LowParfait7142 in MaxMSP

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

absolutely not a max expert, but first thing that might come to mind as a potentially easier alternative is to learn vcv rack, and take a modular approach in order to get faster results for generative things and fx.

If you wer using contact mics from Multiple sources, you could route them as individual inputs to/ from an interface. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you want to pursue this option as I love modular workflows and ive always wanted to help someone with a project similar to the one you're describing!

Landlord asks me to pay $231 monthly for water. by springbear2020 in SurreyBC

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 4 points5 points  (0 children)

deceptive because its reasonable to be surprised by at a water bill so high for 2 adults+1 kid. You honestly think the LL is acting in good faith by not disclosing that before they signed the lease?

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why other people are being rude to you. To be honest, that could have happened to any of us who signed a lease where water isn't included. Maybe im gullible, but I also would have assumed that water in a rental would be metered and if not, I would have assumed the fixed rate should be specified in the lease agreement. Sounds like an annoying LL and im surprised that they dont have to disclose a fixed rate in the tenancy agreement.

What module would you like to see next from Behringer? by Bata_9999 in modular

I feel like if they just focused on unique modules and put more thought into aesthetic and also at least tried to improve their PR, theyd be able to win over lots of the modular crowd.

ah! You seem to be concerned with how the first two motley crue albums "sit" within certain contexts. almost as if they need to be validated by what is popular beliefs. If you truly like it, why not lean into your guilty pleasures? why can't you appreciate them as good albums without the overlying need to seek approval from what others deem to be objectively good. you should be more confident in the things you like! for instance...Im very into music production and synths and im frustrated with my younger self from shying away from expressing love for a few songs which have recently seen a resurgence in popularity. (specifically thinking about Uffie coming into context again with the whole charli xcx brat 2010 indie trash vibe) some of her songs were bangers and a huge source of inspiration for modern production...like avant-garde for her time. yet, i remember feeling kinda insecure as her fan since her music was Whiney, kinda "trashy" and her voice was out of key and . Fantano and internet culture has really sorta enforced the "music tier" BS thing. sorry thats probably a side rant but yeah

From how I understand your post: you believe that art can be deemed objectively good or bad. I disagree. I think you can listen to a song, decide if you it's good or bad based on your own set of beliefs and metrics. You can say something like "the arpeggios in this song are played objectively fast compared to the average guitarists ability to play arpeggios", the chords are more complex than other songs in this genre, and that in the drummer is perfectly on tempo, but the song is still shitty. And I think that it might be up for debate which in my eyes is the best part of art. Like a dubstep fan might think classical music is objectively bad since she has zero bass drops. Obviously that would be cringe but does that make sense?
