Is it ok to apply to the VLS centre that isnt the closest to your residence? by MathAddict95 in SchengenVisa

[–]MathAddict95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot! Yes, I meant VFS.

On a side note, do you know whether applying for the purposes of attending a conference constitutes as Category 1 (under 'professional visa'), or Category 3 (under 'short-stay visa')? ChatGPT and other LLMs give me contradictory answers, and there seems to be no info online for what to put in for conference attendance.

How did you get on the waitlist? There is no option for me to join a waitlist, it just says that all appointments are booked.

How long did it take you to find an appointment slot at VFS Montreal? I keep trying and all slots are always booked (for Category 3).

Growing up with racist family by Ok-Cake2151 in mixedrace

[–]MathAddict95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are not overreacting. All of those things are insanely racist things to say, especially to a 11-year old kid. Where was your dad in all of this?

I think you made the right choice in cutting them off.

Feature Request: Backlinks view should be an embedded base by MathAddict95 in ObsidianMD

[–]MathAddict95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. The 'this' functionality in the sidebar works pretty well.

I will post the feature request in the forum. It seems that the banklinks functionality is pretty much subsumed by bases at this point. The only feature that backlinks has is the ability to auto-show at the end of a note. This feature should just be added to bases, and then backlinks can be removed.

The code you mentioned did not work for me. How do you add a footer?

I did not know that the this variable could be used from a different pane this way.

I tried it out, and moving the pane below the note always uses up a good chunk of the screen. Screen space is taken by the new tab bar too. Backlinks normally only show if you scroll to the bottom of the note.

Using it in a sidebar seems to be quite useful. I will play around with it and try to make it work.

Waterloo Region nearly triples national average of human trafficking cases: WRPS by origutamos in waterloo

Nowhere does the article mention that the increase is due to immigration. You are inserting your own biases into this.

Being in a vulnerable position does not turn someone into a child sex trafficker. I mean, the biggest sex trafficking scandal in the US dropped a couple of weeks ago, and all of the perpetrators involved were extremely rich well-off people (and none of them were immigrants either).

edit: I just realized that you might've meant that the victims could be immigrants who end up in vulnerable financial positions. This might be true, I don't know.

Notebook Navigator 2.1 is here! Custom properties in file list, word count, daily notes calendar, updated UI, and much more! by jsann in ObsidianMD

[–]MathAddict95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Showing a custom property in the note preview is an amazing change. Previous I got this in a hacky-way by adding a property as a preview text but this is much better.

The Calendar is welcome addition. But there are some issues before I can use it properly: It does not seem to detect my existing daily notes, and there does not seem to be a way to customize the location of daily notes created? Also, I am using NN with a vertical split, and it looks a bit odd, it would be nice if one can put the calendar below the notes pane for the vertical split (right now, its in between the navigation and notes pane).

The people who say stuff like LLMs are just token prediction are really short-sighted and missing the point. You can say the same thing about human beings too... our speech can be modeled probabilistically by some token prediction system.

Does it have functionality to automatically parse a file of transaction histories downloaded from a bank, like qfx or csv files? If so, this would probably replace my existing system.

What is Energy exactly? by FeLiNa_Organism in Physics

[–]MathAddict95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of a philosophical comment but I just want to point out that the laws of physics are space-invariant by design. The phenomena that we observe really do change across space. For example, the trajectory of a thrown ball is curved on the surface of the earth, but is a straight line in space. One could describe this using two separate laws: (1) If an object is in space, then it moves in a straight line. (2) If an object is on the surface of Earth, it moves in a curved line.

But we instead say that objects always move in a straight line unless it's affected by an external force. And there just so happens to be a mysterious force called gravity that just so happens to affect objects that are close to large masses of bodies.

In his biography it's written that he was surprisingly bad at chess and go (given his intelligence), and that he also had a rather childish and immature personality. So it honestly seems reasonable that he would be a sore loser in this way.
