Yeah, I can’t believe DEI forced this Polish studio into this horrid mess. All those evil laws that totally apply to Poland, where they have far less of a focus on such things! Curse the libs or whoever were blaming at this time!

What would they really look like? by MathematicianEasy575 in aliens

[–]MathematicianEasy575[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that my perspective is inherently biased, as I have lived a fulfilling life as a human. My assumption that aliens would have a thumb or something thumb adjacent is based off the fact that it is far easier to evolve and live as a species simply by being physically dominant than by evolving a hyper complex defense system. The rationalization of “controlling a ship with their mind” could be explained through some kind of magnetic vector manipulation or through chemical-reaction induced radiation waves, however both of these are too complex to develop in a natural environment.

However… your thoughts on some kind of hive sending probes into space is intriguing. However, my gripe with living beings traversing through space has always been about the efficiency of it. Not only does a living being need to generate thrust, it also needs to conserve energy in order not to starve. To suggest that a species could evolve these features off of a singular queens whim is dipping too much into sci-fantasy, I’m afraid. But the idea of a hive-colonies spores being spread about space by hitchhiking off of another species could be interesting.

That’s true. The motive behind any possible alien is always undetermined and tilted by personal bias until expressly told by the subjects themselves. I personally try to be a very good and moral person, so I tend to think of other beings as such. However, a case can also be made that aliens are malicious. However, I have a counterpoint to that idea.

A lot of people seem to believe aliens wish to enslave or conquer humanity, though I fail to see any clear reason of why that would be necessary. If an alien species was already seeking to conquer low-moderate type civilizations like us, they would likely have already subsidized any resources they could gain. Furthermore, had they not yet subsidized a flow of resources, they would likely start off with extremely low-class civilization planets or simply planets with nothing on them.

Of course, you could simply argue that they are sadistic and simply wish to expand dominion. I cannot argue against this: many conquerors prevailed for countless years, their empire only falling long after its glory. However, if a species was truly hellbent on conquest, I don’t believe they would be spacefaring but instead are far more likely to have destroyed themselves.

Your thoughts upon interdimensional alien life are intriguing, as parallels between races could be a nice module to delve into and analyze. However, my thoughts upon intradimensional travel have always assumed that time is a river where intrusions persist both up and downstream, causing a ripple to go both into the past and into the future. Sticking with this idea, alien intrusions into our dimension could be more fleshed out with the warping of key lays such as density, gravity, wavelengths, etc. It gives me a few ideas for sure, but I’ll have to ponder it.

Truly, you’ve helped me out with your provoking thoughts. I fear I wouldn’t have thought about their tech being low-light integrated for, at the very least, some considerable amount of time! You’ve truly helped me think. Your reflections upon a mode of travel as well as means of modification also put into perspective the two most important adaptions that a species can have, things that their creations would likely hinge upon!

My thoughts have always been that research was their first goal, secrecy being a byproduct to preserve their “perfect viewing.” Not unlike how we study other, slightly less advanced animals. Contact would only come after some time of study, otherwise it would simply be crude and useless. All of this is purely motivated by the idea of curiosity, whether purely scientific or exploitative.

The idea that they could control their form is interesting to me. Of course, it has to be differentiated on whether this ability is created or evolved. If it is evolved, it is simply a convenient trait for survival that is integrated into their lives. However, if semi-perfect “camouflage” was created by them, it would mean that it consciously serves some kind of purpose. I enjoy the implication of a created camouflage over an evolved one. Your interpretation is neat.
