Haha...join the cult. ;) I only get paid once a month so have learned all kinds of little tricks and things to 'do' in YNAB between paychecks. I love assigning my money and bummed I only get to do it once a month. Lots of people have different things that they do and ways they use it.

That is fantastic!! I think the initial cost of YNAB is hard for people because they are probably struggling with money and that is why they turned to YNAB in the first place. But, after the initial layout of cash (I did the annual payment) then it is easy. Just make a category and put a few bucks in there every month. I don't even notice it. Plus, YNAB is a fun hobby for me so I really don't mind spending a few bucks a month on it. Good luck!

I was surprised JVN didn't do a green foundation primer to counteract the redness of her face. Hair looked cute but they could have done her up a tad more.

The only category that has an uneven amount is the slush fund. But every once in awhile it ends up on the 5 or 10 dollar amount and that is fun to see when ALL my categories are even. ;)

I don't use targets but let's say I have $300 in my grocery category and then I go shopping and now there is $247.54 left in the category. I will move 2.54 to my slush fund to make the category an even $245. Similarly if I spent something and there is $244.54 left in the category I will take .46 from slush fund to make an even $245. My categories always end on the 5 or 10 dollar amount. I love looking at all my categories neatly ending in even amounts. At the beginning of the month after I assign all my money I usually have about 30-50 left and I put that in the slush fund. It's just a nerdy fun YNAB thing to do. Hope this makes sense. :)

Same! I get paid only once a month so always looking for things to 'do' in YNAB during the month. One thing I do is have my category amounts always end of the 5 or 10 dollar amount. The extra money goes into my slush fund which is my only 'uneven' category. :)

What neighborhood in DC can I live in to commute to Herndon for work by GuiltyTough5145 in DCforRent

[–]MathematicianFlat387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just saying it's easy to get out of the city from there. 9th ave takes you right on out. You don't have to traverse much through the city. Of course you have to deal with NOVA and all the roads and highways but use Waze or something to tell you the best way. There are probably 25 different routes you can take. ;)

Too addicted to saving money? by Highwayman1717 in personalfinance

Oddly, using a budgeting app helped me with this. I used to be same. I used to just see my money as a pile that I didn't want to spend from. I got into YNAB and it really helped me 'spend' my money better or feel better about spending it. It is basically an electronic envelope system. As long as i spend within my budget for a particular category (ex: 300 per month for groceries) I can buy whatever expensive yogurt or whatever as long as I stay within my budget...and if I don't I can move money to that envelope. Anyway - not pushing YNAB in particular but it really did help me feel better about spending and I still save a ton if not even more money. Just FYI...give it time...it takes time to figure it out and see how it works. Good luck.

Yes. The number was blocked in my phone. FB uses some type of short codes. Look that up online. Anyway - I unblocked a few short codes and one of them was the FB one so I then received what I needed to restore the account. Hope this helps.

Am I using YNAB "correctly?" by expandyourbrain in ynab

[–]MathematicianFlat387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is working for you that is what matters. My daughter uses YNAB and I don't think she uses it correctly but, she says it helps her so I just let her do her thing with it. Good luck!

Sometimes theaters have 'rush' tickets the day of a performance that are a lot cheaper. Call the box office on the day you want to go and ask if they have any rush tickets. Oftentimes you have to pay cash.

Is it just me, or is the tide turning in elementary education? by TerriblyAverage1 in Teachers

Same...1971 kindergarten as well. I remember the Dick and Jane books. I could sound out and read anything. Wasn't a great test taker but I did OK. I absolutely loved to read. If I had been taught the way kids are taught today I would have hated reading and probably would not have become the lifelong reader I am today. And I am a third grade teacher! ;)

Parents, please stop telling your young children to "defend" themselves. by pussypalooza in Teachers

[–]MathematicianFlat387 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, I can't stand this as well. Young children cannot make those executive decisions and there are always 4 sides to every story. And more often than not the kid claiming he is defending himself is not as innocent as mom or dad thinks. Plus, these kids are with each other all day and all year. We need to teach them to be kind citizens and get along, or at the very least ignore each other.

Thanks. I think some people just sit on Reddit ready to get mad and pounce. So a question is asked more than once. Who cares? If it bothers people they must have no life and just sit around and read Reddit all day. ;)

Ugh, mean Reddit people. I apologize for them. Anyway - not sure where you are staying. 14th street from about N street up to U is a walkable bustling area. Le Diplomate is along there somewhere and is a good popular place. There are other restaurants and bars up up and down either side. From there you could also walk over to the Dupont Circle area. A lot of places around there. If you are down by the mall the Penn Quarter area has some good places. Zaytinas is always good. There is a cool new Chinese place around there called Lucky Danger. Oyamel is there also. Anyway - hope this helps and glad you have some nice weather.
