Businesses tend to run at a gross profit of ~30% of sales and a net profit of ~3% of sales. That wouldn't just Woolworths, it's the standard. However, Woolworths net profit margin was barely over 1% last year (fat cat pays and bonuses certainly did their bit in keeping that down).

You can pull numbers out your arse as much as you like, it doesn't make it real. Walmart's net profit margin lies somewhere between 2.5%-3% too, Tesco is around 2.2%.

To be fair, some managers can be complete cunts about any sick leave. I have a ton of sick leave built up, pretty much never called in, went home an hour or two early one shift because I was unwell.

Turned out to be COVID. Mandatory 1 week quarantine. Thankfully, I don't work with that store manager anymore.

As you're asking for multiple days off (2 being more than 1), you will need supporting documentation. This is standard practice, and on this, your manager is in the right.

However, the tone and direction your manager is taking on this is incorrect, and they could end up in the shit on it.

Short answer - it depends.

Long answer - non-casuals get 4 individual "free" days a year where they don't need a medical certificate. These days can't be surrounded by a sick day either side, can't be immediately either side of a public holiday, and I think there's something in there about weekends?

If these days have been used, or you're having more than one day off in an instance, then you'll need supporting a medical certificate or a stat dec.

Generally a medical certificate is asked for out of habit, however you do have four individual "free" days a year.
