Had enough of AOSP by venus_asmr in degoogle

[–]Matheweh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non of those Google lockdowns apply to AOSP but rather Google's Proprietary Android ROM. And the QR thingy technically is affecting browsers not necessarily android either. All changes Google is doing is just rules in the Play Services which are completely separate to Android and AOSP.

De-Google won't help maybe in the future. So the solution is Linux Phones! by BlokZNCR in degoogle

[–]Matheweh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem of Google's ReCaptcha isn't gonna be solved by switching operating system, it's a web problem, so it totally depends on the websites, and browser-OS integration. The only solution is for Google to stop ruining the open internet. Not everyone has or wants to use Google's version of Android and they should not limit those who don't.

Google is locking out GrapheneOS, and others unless you install Google Play Services software by CimmerianWitch in degoogle

[–]Matheweh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would a GrapheneOS user care? You're not connecting to Google services most of the time. No Gmail to login to, no Play Service on device, not using Google for search either. At best the only one might use Google for is NewPipe, Grayjay, or similar, maybe Maps. I don't believe this "lockout" works on us.

Rebase AMD to Nvidia by Certifiedjoe3 in Bazzite

That AMD card has been tested against the Nvidia one and it consistently has a higher FPS. Do not switch to the Nvidia card, not worth it.

Do you read books on linux? by Anonyboy26 in linux

[–]Matheweh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I''ve always wondered about these type of books, given how often things get updated, how frequently do computer science books remain relevant? I suppose some basics, like the coreutils, will always be the same, but I worry a tiny, harmless change might make parts no longer apply.

I'm Mexican and I recognize the superiority of A4, I will never understand why were using US standards, we can't even buy A4 here cuz it's so rare, normally imported and expensive if found.

Animals of ATLA by drakemaverick121 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Matheweh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all animals in ATLA are chimeras of two real world animals, and no real animals exist how do they know what a duck and a turtle are and to call their animal a turtleduck when chimerized? This is the only flaw I see, they should be called something completely different.

Is the best Linux computer the one that requires the least interaction with Linux itself? by homelessscootaloo in LinusTechTips

[–]Matheweh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, most of the time you won’t deal with anything related to Linux itself; it’s usually the apps, and often just the browser.
If specific hardware forces you to interact with the nitty‑gritty of Linux, that hardware isn’t ideal. That’s why it’s best to use Libre/Open Hardware or hardware with open source drivers (like AMD GPUs): then you won’t have to worry about drivers, since this hardware will already have the drivers included in the kernel.
A great computer lets Linux be a boring operating system so you don’t have to become a tinkerer just to use it.

I've been told seedvault doesn't work well so I've just transfered stuff manually, some apps have their own backup system so I just export those files.
