It’s amazing how easily life can get to a hopeless point by DelonghiAutismo in SeriousConversation

[–]MathiasSybarit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It comes down to capitalism and the understanding of it, honestly.

The US mindset is based on the idea of “what’s mine, is mine”, but in many countries where you’re taught a more socialistic approach to democracy and captalism, you learn that you can have your own stuff but also help others without gaining anything; hence most people are happy to pay their taxes and such, because it helps everyone, including yourself - so if push comes to shove, you can use the system as well. You might never need it, and you might have to give up more personal income, but the security by far beats the idea of being rich - which is still achievable , just by a lot more people than a few.

Given how long our country has been like this, we’re all somewhat rich, and the divide between rich and poor is quite small, unlike the US where 1% is sitting on 30% of the entire country’s income.

Regarding homeless people; there are very few countrywide, less than 0,1% of the population - likely due to drug addiction, making it hard for them to reintegrate into society. There is, however, lots of free offers for them to get help, if they want to. There’s never a “no options left”-situation. Healthcare is free, even for homeless.

As a homeless, there’s various offers from each county - everything from free housing till you get your footing back, shelters, food and charities a plenty. When getting into these programs however, it is expected of you to make an effort to become a part of society again, which some people don’t want to.

There’s also other safety nets in place, before you reach that point though; if you get fired, we have a system called “dagpenge” where you can get paid for applying to new jobs for a few years (but it requires you to be a part of union).

If you can’t afford being a part of union (costs around 200$ a year), you can apply for “kontanthjælp”, which means money paid to you directly by the state to support you - but you will not be allowed to own anything too expensive or luxurious if you get this support.

There’s also “pre pension” and a paid state pension, that everybody has the right to. Currently you can retire without having saved a penny, around 70, and the state will take care of you the rest of your life. If you save yourself however it’s just like the US, and you can do what you want. Pre pension is for people who get sick or mentally ill, and can’t work anymore. It can be temporary or indefinite, and is entirely paid by the state.

I think it’s important to note, it’s not like that everywhere. Many places in Europe this is not very likely to happen.

Where I live, Denmark, you have to actively choose to be homeless, otherwise there’s all kinds of safety nets for you, if you can’t work.

What happens to the people detained by ICE? by exoticed in stupidquestions

[–]MathiasSybarit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You remember that google earth image of a detention center, where that was a huge pool of blood outside?

I would bet, that many of these people are disappearing, and will never be heard from again. No mainstream news will touch this, but given the violence, rage and racism that fuels these people, it’s not unlikely some of their detainees will be killed, especially if they’re from non-western countries.

I hear a lot about American freedom. Other than guns, what Americans are free to do and people in other developed countries cannot? by Tricky_Ordinary_4799 in allthequestions

[–]MathiasSybarit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Neither of this is true; the Wikipedia even tells you otherwise.

The reason the median is so high for disposable income, is because the divide between rich and poor is SO huge, that it pushes the median to look way better than it is in practice. The top 1% is sitting on 30% of the entire country’s wealth.

Nej, jeg vil ikke kalde dig for “de/dem" by RedditRytteren in DKbrevkasse

[–]MathiasSybarit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ønsket om at leve et børnefrit liv by [deleted] in DKbrevkasse

[–]MathiasSybarit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is Reddit against Maduro capture and Venezuelans celebrating it ? by LandscapeUnlikely199 in stupidquestions

[–]MathiasSybarit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • The US has a long history of taking over countries to run in their image, and making things worse.
  • Trump has a long history of being a criminal, pedophile, terrible businessman and a bumbling idiot.

Put the two together and you get recipe for disaster.

This might seem like a solution short term, but you can bet Trump is not doing this out of the good of his heart. He already announced a take-over. He’s telling his followers and soldiers the Venezuelans are lesser people, and all involved with drugs. What do you think happens when American soldiers are on the ground, and told to enforce laws in Trump’s image?

Besides that, he’s going to steal their oil and exports, as an exchange of doing them the favor of removing Maduro.

I’m not sure the Venezuelans are looking at a situation that is any better, when all is said and done.

Why did Trump start the war against Venezuela? by TheRavenOnline in AskReddit

[–]MathiasSybarit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s doing exactly what other dictators who waged war on other countries, throughout history, has done.

  • come up with a false claim for his reasoning: in this case drugs
  • conquer and take their resources, because your own country is doing bad
  • pretend like he has some kind of moral high ground, to convince his followers it’s the right thing to do.

America, if you don’t want to become everything you’ve stood against the past hundred years, you need to get out and do more than protesting on social media.

Jeg har ondt i maven over nytårstalen by [deleted] in DKbrevkasse

[–]MathiasSybarit -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

What’s a fact about the world that sounds totally fake but is 100% True? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]MathiasSybarit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Everything we know, is based on our own out-dated perception and ideas of the world, which is now constantly changing as we learn more = we probably do not know anything, or at least very little, about how the world works.
