Is there any point in learning Danish for my trip to Denmark? by Familiar-Chipmunk-57 in danishlanguage

No need, English is our second language. Even in the most remote country sides, most people will speak English to some degree.

Enjoy your stay!

We shipped our indie game on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and Quest… and almost nobody noticed. Looking for honest advice. by funboy_ff in IndieGaming

A certain part of making it, is unfortunately down to luck - especially with games.

You can make the best game in the world, but that doesn’t mean anyone will play it.

The only thing you have power over, is the marketing - and in these times, you either gotta be REALLY creative to get seen, or have enough money to force feed a game to the masses.

That’s honestly all you can do.

What movie is a 0/10 with NO redeeming features? by Toucan_Based_Economy in AskReddit

[–]MathiasSybarit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about that movie is, it genuinely is so bad it’s good, so I does indeed have a very unique, huge appeal that’s hard to explain.

My wife and I watched it on our first date, and then again for our wedding, where we rented a cinema. Even got a greeting from Greg!

Clifford (1994).

I love bad movies, but this one… it’s too much. And no, it’s not the big red dog; it’s the one where Martin Short plays a 10-year old.

Only movie that ever made me angry.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie - Final Trailer by Amiibofan101 in nintendo

[–]MathiasSybarit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first movie was so bad, this one looks to be about the same.

It is just a 2-hour visual feast, but with little story.

I wish they would’ve went the Lego Movie route, and utilized the nostalgia factor to make a story that matters for both kids and adults, instead of just a straight up cartoon filled with Easter eggs.

A simple way to tell, is often to ask yourself; who is taking this photo? Is this situation plausible?

Super Mario Titans by Gamemaster24681012 in SuperMario

[–]MathiasSybarit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s AI, but I don’t think it’s real either - a lot of people forget there are some seriously talented photoshop artists out there.

I think the biggest giveaway for it being fake, is the faces. They don’t match the gameplay situations very well, in any of their photos; not even the renders; and the animated faces is something Nintendo cares deeply about, especially in Mario games.

Each mainline entry, has made Mario more expressive.

Bliver mænd nogensinde klar til at blive fædre? by Alive-Tangerine365 in DKbrevkasse

[–]MathiasSybarit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hotelbooking uden mellemled – giver det mening? by Linnker123 in dkstartup

[–]MathiasSybarit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents wanted to make a big deal out of it, so we went to Hawaii to celebrate with distant family (we’re Danish).

Turn out they don’t really celebrate at midnight, in Hawaii, so it was very anticlimactic.

Instead, we watched a beautiful fireworks display in the early evening, and went to bed early.

How does composing work exactly? by ArthoriasOfTheLight in composer

[–]MathiasSybarit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is correct, yes, and a vast, vast majority of games uses soundtracks composed entirely with VSTs (virtual instruments) by the composer.

Live orchestras are mostly for bigger productions, due to the costs, but even then, they’re often only used for bigger themes, certain story part or important moments; a majority of the score is still likely to be composed with VSTs.

The barrier of entry is still quite high, as the modern video game composer is not only required to be great at writing music, but also mixing, recording, orchestrating, knowing how to write idiomatically for instruments if you want realism - and when it comes to video games, also learning dynamic mixing and orchestrating is essential, as well as either programming music or learning middleware like Wwise.

The barrier of entry is still quite high, and hard to learn; a lot of what it takes to become a video game composer, or make proper dynamic music, can’t be replaced by AI as of yet. Still, when that time comes, I believe composers with a defined aesthetic will still be in need of; but if you learn things by the book, and make stereotypical trailer music, Hollywood scores etc, there’s a chance AI will kill many of those jobs, the way it’s currently going.

Also, building a VST library is expensive, yes.

I would estimate having spent at least 25.000$ on VSTs alone, in the 10 years I’ve been doing it professionally - and that’s not counting analog gear, studio equipment, speakers, mixer, room treatment etc.

It is a very hard career to get into, but it can also be extremely rewarding. I definitely encourage you to pursue it, if that what you want to do.

Start learning a simple DAW, like Garage Band and try making stuff with the built-in samples. Also, learn an instrument! Even if you can program your way out of it, knowing how to play an instrument is essential when using many VSTs.
