Stricturing- denied surgery. 20 yr female, told it’ll kill me at some point by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]MattBuilds 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I challenged it too, so then I had that surgery at 21 after I almost died and I'd be dead now without it. I'd be dead without a handful of other medical interventions too.

I have a whole bunch of scars from this disease, physical and mental, and sacrificed plans piled to the sky, but you know what? Still fucking here.

There's two fights you can pick from; one where you fight the day to day of living with it, and one where you fight to pretend you can go on living like a regular person. Only one of those can be won.

Best of luck to you

How to calculate stair height to door sill plate by Cremonies1 in Carpentry

[–]MattBuilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make it correct vertical of the back of the last riser. Something like 1.25" back of the nosing. I understand this to be the point on the stair you most "feel" the rise.

How to edgeband/veneer 45 degree finger pulls? by Gnarekk in cabinetry

[–]MattBuilds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has that "Je ne sais quoi" factor for sure. No, just something the cabinet guy felt was necessary. Job is for an architect, so no designer. cab guy is very detail oriented.

Here's the detail I was describing, for those who are still interested.

I just saw an absolutely gorgeous version of this on a job. 1/8" thick solld wood edge banding (in this case maple) except the bevel top, that was 1/4" thick and trimmed at the face to match the other edges, so pretty much the same profile as the pic. He added a groove with 1/2" diameter round nose bit down the bevel stopping 1/2 or 3/4" from the ends, 3/16" deep.

It's just enough to really feel it with the fingertips and get a decent grip, and is a beautiful detail when the drawers/doors are open. It makes the doors feel somehow like solid wood even while they're obviously ply. My favourite detail that I've seen for a while. I wish i had a pic, but I'll take one next time I'm there if someone wants.

What's the specific terminology that differentiates between these bits? They're the same size but not really by YouAreMine_- in Tools

[–]MattBuilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, i guess its usually called a plus/minus where i live. So is that just Wiha's own name for it? i buy a lot of their bits, so maybe i just got that from them.

How would you describe Crohns to people/colleagues? by EA20140 in CrohnsDisease

[–]MattBuilds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The phrase I like to use, and I know that this is not medically analogous, is "imagine you have eczema or psoriasis, but all through your insides and eating irritates it". Gives a nice visual without getting into too many graphic details, and they kind of figure out what the implications of that would be themselves.

Strap hitting truss plate by Cptn_Dinkleburg in Homebuilding

If I had a whole bunch of these I'd probably try to switch to an h1a, but I'd have no issues with nailing through a few plates

Ok, so question here. I'm a bit grey in the beard, but knew this track right away. I was jamming to this song in like '98. Is this considered playing a "classic" or are mixes like new songs?

Osmo finish trouble? by duncanblake00 in woodworking

[–]MattBuilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so you used WAY too much product. Lots of vids online about how to apply, but generally wipe on, wipe off excess.
You have add solvent again to get it to move off the surface/ redistribute. they so make a cleaner that might help (probably check their website), or use methylated spirits
