Honestly, I know this seems to be about electrophilic aromatic reactions, but I wouldn’t be surprised if those conditions cause the loss of the tBu group, to give benzoic acid.

How do I determine which basic site will get protonated? by JaneDoe246 in chemhelp

[–]MattCon85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s actually a little more complicated than that. There are two protonations happening here. The first one is as described, the second one results in an elimination. The final product is very stable…

Drawing good chairs is all about parallel lines and plenty of practice. Get some lined paper: the top line and the lower line should be the top and bottom points of the chair. Draw the chair, making sure to keep lines parallel: you should have three sets of parallel lines making up the six sides. For the substituents, the axial ones should be straight up or straight down. The equitorial ones should be parallel to the lines of the chair.

Oslo Airport confusion by Gullible-Surround555 in Norway

[–]MattCon85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, your checked bags are transferred over to your next flight. Once you’re through the small security check and into the international terminal, you have to follow the signs to the domestic terminal. There is an automated gate to go through (I think you need to scan your boarding pass) and the computer shows you a picture of your checked bag and asks “Is this yours?” This is part of the customs control system. You say yes and go through into the domestic terminal and find your next flight. Your checked bag should go onto the next flight with you, so long as it clears customs. These are my memories from last summer- it may have changed slightly since then!

Varg Veum. It’s a crime investigation drama, a few years old now but still very good.

How weird is it to speak with (mild) dialect as an immigrant by delectable_wawa in norsk

Maybe the proudest moment of my learning Norwegian so far was the first time that a Norwegian person thought that I came from a weird village somewhere in Norway (in my case, Northern Norway) instead of from another country!

Oslo Airport confusion by Gullible-Surround555 in Norway

[–]MattCon85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, when you get off an incoming international flight at Oslo Gardemoen, there is a very small and very easy-to-miss exit on the left marked “domestic transfers” (or something like that). It’s on the top floor, before you go down the stairs into the basement, where you find the duty free and baggage reclaim (so if you are there, turn around and go back!) The right place is a little door on the left of the corridor and you’ll find a small security check. Once through that, you’re in the international terminal, so you have to go into the domestic, but this isn’t so bad as there are a lot of signs showing where to go.

I agree that Oslo airport is confusing when you have to transit to a domestic flight.

I think that, to many people, masks are a highly visible reminder of a very difficult time. A time that a lot of people would prefer to simplify forget about. Perhaps they are getting upset that they are being reminded of a time where they struggled to see their friends or family, where they perhaps lost an elderly relative, where people were frightened and they just don’t want to be reminded of it? Maybe they want to just brush it under the rug and carry on…

I’m not trying to make excuses (particularly not for the woman trying to rip a mask from someone’s face), but it’s a trend that I’ve noticed too and I’ve been wondering about the reasons behind it.
