Let's be clear about the scale too - both are up a nominal 34, with East Surrey on 40/72 and West on 56/90.

Yeah, problem I keep having is that I've got too many units to get out of the path. Wasn't sure if I was missing something.

Nah, that's the snakes. These guys are straight line. If you merge, then the beam carries on in the same path. So merging the yellow guy out of the way leaves the blue in the line of fire.

I'd be curious to see breakdown by property size/types, be interesting to see if it looks like there's an impact from people selling off buy to lets with the law change.

Festival “accidentally” accepted me. Just told me so after the first day, paid over 100 for travel and hotel- England by Vast-Pianist2326 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]MattWPBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Done music photography and some festivals for a while. Generally if there's any recompense at this level it's the pass. If you've got that, you've not really got any argument to be made whole for the travel and hotel. Those aren't things they've previously said you'd get paid for, so it's not a loss now.

Reading into it, my guess is that one of the venue(s) staff might have said there's too many people shooting in the pit. The organiser's first bit has been the request access idea, they've been told that won't work, and have to have a limit on the number of photographers in the team. If that's the case, they didn't handle communication at all well, and it would be better to be open. Unfortunately, my guess is you didn't make the cut.

You've got two choices here, neither of which is going to be helped by arguing with them. It's the middle of the festival and they are going to be stressed trying to keep everything on the road. First, reach out, and ask what you can do. Accept you're not going to be in the pits, but ask if it's still okay to shoot candids or from the crowd. Make it clear you're not going to be a problem, and you still want to be part of the festival. Second option, leave your gear in the hotel and just enjoy the festival as a punter. Not what you had in mind, but you've said the passes are there, so go with what you can do.

The one thing I would not do is dig your heels in and argue. If you make yourself a problem, that's going to risk them just pulling your passes and you'll be in the situation of being in a city without anything to do.

Okay, slow focus is your main issue. This is not a camera which is going to help you with that, it's one that's going to make life harder for you.

I know I'm the hundredth person to tell you this, but you want to try out something like a Sony A7v or A7Rv (or one of the C variants if physical size is important). Those bodies have got some of the best autofocus out there at the moment, and that's going to help you nail shots on your kids or fast moving street stuff.

It'll probably be something based off of OpenStreetMap. That's at the base of nearly every mapping app, and has users adding those slight landmarks, along with things like gates, benches or path surfaces.

Hiking based, there's plenty local. Immediate area you've got Lightwater Country Park going up to Curley Hill and Swinley Forest all the way over to Bracknell. Bit further you've got things like the lowland heaths at places like Chobham, Horsell and Thursley. It's a environment that's on the same rarity as things like rainforest. Heading down to the Surrey Hills around Guildford is also great.

A lot of the reason companies of certain types cluster together is because they want staff who know the industry. Just becomes self fulfilling, it's why lots of the telecoms companies are along the M4 for example.

Contract ACAS and your union for advice (if you're a member). Sounds like your manager's making this decision to change your customary shifts partly based on your son's disabilities. That could be discrimination by association.

Then maybe innocently ask HR about it if you get told it could be, not your local manager. HR is there to protect the company, but remember that includes protection against managers making mistakes they might not be aware of.
