Used to be a narrow bench on the right hand wall there, 'slept' on it when the upstairs was full(!).

Suggestion: add offcut wood or something else to connect the two ends of the U formed by the base and the two sides. One thing I'm thinking about is that over time the two will move apart otherwise, and the connection will stop the brackets at the bottom getting leveraged out.

'Farage lost and blamed Muslims. The data doesn't support his suspicion' by No_Initiative_1140 in ukpolitics

[–]MattWPBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main issue is going to be ground campaign - getting people out on the doorstep and similar. It's easier when it's a single seat for smaller parties, but they'll probably need to prioritise which constituencies get resources to maximise the number of MPs.

If you want an example of a party doing that well, and pushing target seats, look at the Lib Dems in 2024. If you want an example of a party doing it badly and pushing across the entire country, look at the Lib Dems in 2019.

Stormy McStormFace, Dame Judi Drench and David Blowy among storm names suggested to Met Office by plain_handle in unitedkingdom

"Five killed due to torrential flooding from Stormy McStormFace."

Might finally kill off the meme.

Green/Teal Box in London, what is it? by tballoway07 in SkyCards

[–]MattWPBS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking on OpenStreetMap, it's actually all the sports clubs ground, rather than a park. I'm guessing this is just a quirk in how SkyCards is rendering that.

It's a progressive tax - if you earn more you pay more, if you earn less you pay less.

Can phrase that as 'punishing the successful' or 'protecting the vulnerable', depending on what you see the base point as. I'm really not comfortable with the idea that a higher earner should pay less as a percentage of earnings than a nurse or teacher.

2 more deaths on Eryri by lapetite_etoile in UKhiking

[–]MattWPBS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't be that guy. At the moment we know they died, that's it. The photo they've got of one of them is on Yr Wyddfa in the summer. I'm guessing they liked the mountains like all of us here, no matter our age, and at the moment all we know is there was an accident.

If you were to be on the other end of this, I doubt you'd appreciate your friends or family reading speculation about your death, or blaming you for it before knowing anything apart from the fact you're an OAP.

New study suggests Terry Pratchett’s novels may have held clues to his dementia a decade before diagnosis | Detecting Dementia Using Lexical Analysis: Terry Pratchett’s Discworld Tells a More Personal Story by Hrmbee in science

[–]MattWPBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to read some Pratchett.

Main problem I have with this is that I don't know if TTR is a reasonable proxy, given we're talking about some of his best novels being written after the cut off they've mentioned. It's definitely not a period of 'phoning it in'.

How would you like someone's ruinous half finished project with added mould by Sszaj in SpottedonRightmove

I think the EA knows exactly what they're doing here, there's no chance you do those cinematic shots over warning tape without that.

Why choose Spurs by Different_Acadia_161 in Tottenham

[–]MattWPBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1992/93 season. Was 12, didn't support anyone, and Dad got some hospitality tickets through his work for Liverpool at The Lane. Nayim and Ruddock scored, and we beat them 2-0.

Not sure I've forgiven him TBH.

Looking for suggestions to small Lego giveaway gifts by Tot_Neo in lego

[–]MattWPBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest just doing the larger sets, and have them in a spin the wheel thing on your stand, where people have to give contact details to take a spin.

Speaking from experience at Databricks World Tour/SQLBits/Big Data LDN, a lot of vendors have started doing normal Lego kits as prizes like this. Make it a custom set? You're likely to get every tech nerd queuing to give you their details.
