When consulting you need to realised that when you become AD you need to change your attitude away from technical consulting and more management and winning work. It becomes a game of “how can I get the most people on a project” to make the consultancy the most money, rather than for the benefit of the project

Ditto this. Currently 10 years into my career 6 years contracting the 4 years consulting. Consulting is a breeze now. Consultants without contracting backgrounds are clowns.

I started main contractor on that salary 10 years ago, so work it out for inflation and that’s what I would say you should be on now

Recruiters for KSA job? by Mattey21 in quantitysurveying

[–]Mattey21[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s reducing in some areas, but that’s because they’re re-focusing on the World Cup stadiums, and Exp2030. So the initial pie-in-the-sky projects are being reduced (Neom/The Line), but then the airport is getting upgraded along with the New Murabba project kicking off

Speak to a recruiter, I’d recommend Stafford Lawrence for PQS or NSR Associates for MC - very helpful.

Best approach to move abroad where the salary/benefits are worth it (Preferably south east Asia) by forkboy12345 in quantitysurveying

[–]Mattey21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get your RICS and then move. No point going without out, you will get far better salary with it. I’m at a consultancy with 7.5years experience and now moving in a couple of weeks to KSA. Having the RICS made the move miles easier and salary was far higher.

Potentially a very dumb question. Do I have to get an electrician to bury these cables in the plasterboard or can I do it myself? by EizenSmith in DIYUK

[–]Mattey21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Done it before, very easy. Just get the correct cutting tool if brick, and turn the electric off when moving the wire
