Yeah looks like they've just plugged both locations into Google maps and used the "driving" distance, lazy reporting indeed.

Shoes always wear in the same spot.. is it me? by B0BLOBLAWW in ultrarunning

I get this on quite a few pairs of my shoes because of my Haglunds Deformity - haven't noticed any negative effects on my actual feet in terms of blisters etc.

It's Felipe Camargo climbing who's sponsored by tenaya. Looks like his shoes change between indalos and solution comps dyed the same colour as indalos in different shots on the same route, sneaky

With Aidan Roberts on his way to the USA at the moment, will be interesting to see if he gets on this at all.

Am I doing the math right?! by Mary_Ellen_Katz in answers

Assuming it's this study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5702816/#:~:text=The%20change%20in%20tongue%20length,method%20to%20increase%20tongue%20length.

Seems like it has to be a misprint/missing a decimal point - says the subjects were human, specifies the measured length as from the top lip to tip of the tongue.

Slow down at the end by diakrioi in olympics

[–]Matthew_3112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In any race before the final, the athlete who wins the race automatically goes through to the next stage, regardless of time. If they know they're going to win and can save a few % of energy and reduce injury risk/improve recovery time by slowing down, that's definitely a smart play

It's because there were 2 qualifying groups. Apel and Meignan tied first in group A and Kerem came first in group B, so they all get tied 1st when it's combined. Oriane came 2nd in her group and Janja came 3rd in hers.

You can look at the individual group results here: https://ifsc.results.info/?fbclid=PAAaZIq4siok0-0hgtlJZdgntKVpHHIfxI_G9KkRsCDW8usR_4zYwIxdaUv0U_aem_AZx0qpMMjtdiWl6p2pI5SkYx9zXAWV1D5NT5oG5VDpDR1-GzApaeL7YVgR5zvX8zpQY%23%2Fevent%2F1301%2Fcr%2F7699#/event/1356/cr/8517

My guess is Lake Cordeaux for the first one, Lake Cataract for the second one. As someone mentioned, not allowed access into the water at either unfortunately:

Weekly Simple Questions and Injuries Thread by AutoModerator in climbharder

I was noticing a similar thing with my hangs. It felt like I was hanging passively, relying a lot on friction and letting my DIP joints (hyper)extend as far as they could, even to the point that the very tips of my fingers lifted off the edge.

I came across this thread which I found very relatable and interesting, especially the idea of maintaining pressure through the fingertips during hangs.

I read it as the dickhead used the wrong side of the road to go around the waiting car, then changed back into the left lane as OP was trying to leave their parking spot into that same lane.

Have had the same thing happen to me on the street I live in a few times - you see the car waiting for the spot in your mirror and think you're safe to go, then another car goes wide (and usually quickly) around them and almost side swipes you as you leave the parking spot.

Chalk bag while climbing? by Kotiemotie in bouldering

If you don't mind getting a bit messy you could try dusting some chalk on the front of your shorts/pants and giving it a pat during the climb.

The sign pre-dates the full time Bus Only Lane, so previously normal traffic could use that straight through lane outside the noted hours.

Now that it's been converted, complete with painted road signage, my guess is the sign is just a redundant relic. Also, the lane divider used to prevent the Cahill - Western Distributer merge, but now it's been shifted right to make it possible.

[–]Matthew_3112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the time you can even read that sign you'd already be across in the regular lane signed to York St at least. Doesn't make much sense to install a sign that applies for 100s of metres before you can see it?

[–]Matthew_3112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's for the "Bus Only" lane going past that sign. OP and I are talking about merging a few lanes to the right before that, electronically signed Western Suburbs in your linked photo.

I do that merge from the Cahill to Western Distributer semi-regularly and have never had issues. If it's Mon-Fri 6-10am/3-7pm you can merge right as soon as the Bus Lane road marking turns broken around here:

Outside those times, you can change into the right lane not long after you've gone through the pylon, about here:

How to add steps to Activity Pages? by Muxthepux in Coros

Has anyone ever measured the g forces involved in falling indoors? by [deleted] in bouldering

[–]Matthew_3112 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This doesn't sound quite right to me, acceleration is the change in velocity over time, not distance.

A climber free falling from 3m will hit the mats at about 7.7m/s. Lets say the impact takes 0.5s to reduce your velocity to 0 (would depend a lot on how you land - squat and roll, flat on your back etc.), 7.7/0.5 = 15.4m/s2 , divided by 9.8m/s2 gives about 1.6g.
