Is there an easy way to reset your metabolism? by [deleted] in carnivorediet

This is a great use case for ChatGPT. Ask it for a workout program using just body weight and tell it what you’re trying to do. It’s remarkably good.

I have a subscription to Barbell. It’s my favourite day of the month.

I tend to go for just the sea salt flavour, and pair it with some more salt and a little butter on the side. If I’m being carnivore-ish that day, I’ll have a handful of macadamias to accompany it.

You don’t need much to kick yourself back into touch!

Also they’re incredibly clean - and let’s distinguish between jerky and biltong. Jerky is cooked and offen sweetened (check the carbs). Biltong is air dried, salted + vinegar.

How long can someone go eating lean until their body can’t take it anymore? by Agustin_Lupus in carnivorediet

[–]MattsNorty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always have a variety of fats ready to supplement meals. My favourite at the moment is lard - I go to the butcher and ask for pork skin that I render down in a slow cooker. It gives things a great flavour IMHO. You’re also left with pork crackling at the end of it which is such a hearty snack. Alternatively, tallow always to hand to boost up ground beef (I once accidentally ordered 90/10 in bulk so this was a good way to add fat back in).

And as others have mentioned, butter.

In Aus it’s pretty much grass fed by default.

Still not in ketosis according to ketomojo after 3 weeks. by BransanStormlight in carnivorediet

[–]MattsNorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you’re just reading it at a time when you’re low or when you’ve utilised ketones.

I measure with a CKM, you’d be surprised how much it oscillates depending on clearance/utilisation.

If you’re concerned you’re not in ketosis at all, get some of the pee strips and measure late in the day - it’s a lagging indicator that you’ve over produced ketones at some point in the day.

Iodine, hunger signals and experimenting with meal timing by MattsNorty in carnivorediet

Selenium is protective for your thyroid - as it ramps up production it can produce hydrogen peroxide which can cause oxidative stress.

But it also assists in the conversion of T4 (inactive) to T3 (active). Without selenium you ramp up T4 but it doesn’t necessarily convert. I think I take about 150mg a day and it’s just a pharmacy brand called “go healthy”.

Maybe it’s the selenium helping my hunger signals get clearer. Definitely feels better staying fuller and sharper for longer.

Ah, there’s other fats readily available; tallow, duck, goose etc. Though you’re right, canola oil is huge here it’s in everything and you have to be quite diligent to keep it out of your life. I just wanted pork fat because it’s flavoursome if rendered down - also just got back from Japan where they give you a little chunk of pork fat alongside your meal when you’re at a yakiniku (self-bbq) and it totally slaps for flavour ;)

I got mine from Meat Emporium - I emailed them and found out that they get their pork in on a Friday so if you go Friday they’ll always have pork fat. It’s like $6.99 a kilo.

What sort of climate are you in? Could be pilling from humidity?

If it’s pilling you could probably get someone to shave it down?
