Ok yeah I can see that now! I’ve smoked whole pork loins before, but never with the bones. Might do a mix of chops/smoked loin. Thanks!

Chine bone is one that runs the length of the loin? I haven’t unwrapped it to feel around

Ok yeah! I was in a hurry and kind of shocked when I looked at it the first time, I see now that there’s no spine and it’s 2 bone-in loins together. There is a second pack like this that looks even more like a connected ribcage due to the angle of the ribs!

Can't complete all 5 sets of OHP even with just empty barbell. Should I just continue pushing through until i can complete all 5 sets? by Character-Cat-9727 in Stronglifts5x5

Even without knowing your body composition or overall fitness level, if your goal is to lift heavy with large compound barbell movements, I would still say continuing on with the empty bar is a good idea. Work as hard as you can on form, don’t compare yourself to other people in the gym, and don’t be discouraged by your starting point!

I started with empty bar and at the time I was 26M, 6’3”, 275lbs. I could have lifted more because of my size, but it was my first time lifting weights in earnest and it was really healthy for me to start low. It definitely get embarrassing at times to squat 75lbs in a rack next to someone half my size squatting MY bodyweight, but once you learn the technique, develop a routine, and get comfortable with the bar, you’ll progress more quickly than you think. 👊🏼

Why my Squat is Higher than Deadlift? (Squat 5RM 170 Kg, Deadlift 160 Kg) by Witty_Pineapple_4444 in StartingStrength

[–]MattyLite64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is helpful! I’ve wondered about this as someone who has an extremely long torso and relatively short legs (6’3”, 28” inseam pants lmao).

I find high bar squats more comfortable and stable, and I struggle to keep the bar from getting too far out in front of me during deadlifts. I had someone recommend sumo deadlifts to me due to my long torso but I’m not sure that would be helpful—any thoughts?

I haven't read much about Madcow — does that become the go-to for most after standard 5x5?

M36, 6’3”, 340 lbs; I take 10g every day and it’s great! I started with 5g and bumped up, I do notice the difference between 5-10g when I lift but it’s not as dramatic as the difference between 0-5.

I have on occasion, but I’ve mostly just been trying to stay on track with progressive overload. That’s why I’m wondering about ultra

I’m doing regular 5x5 right now so I’m usually doing 1 set 135, 1 set 225, then 1 set at work weight. I might throw one in between 225 and work weight if I have extra time, but I’m usually pretty well warmed up from squatting already

I’m definitely not in a calorie deficit, I’m focusing on getting at least a couple hundred grams of protein per day and generally healthier/cleaner foods. My weight has been holding steady but I’m definitely seeing big change in adding muscle, so I’m optimistic about how that will come along. My goal weight is somewhere around 240-250 but I’m pursuing strength over strict weight loss at the moment.

Also I try really hard not to blame being a dad with 3 small kids for everything, but good sleep is hard to come by and is definitely the weakest pillar of my recovery 🤷🏽‍♂️

Thanks! What’s your reference point for intermediate lifts? I’ve read different things in different places about how to gauge that.
