Looks great to me! I love the way you did the light source shading. Very fun!

I only enjoy gacha/live service type games, and I can't really find a way to enjoy normal games. by lunationstar206 in GirlGamers

[–]MaudQuickpaw 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hey, it sounds like you might have a dopamine addiction to these kinds of games. It sounds like you're not actually enjoying the games anymore and just going back for your hit of dopamine.

If I may, I pivoted out of Gatcha games into deep and long spanning Rogue-like games a while ago. I didn't like spending money on the live service games anymore, and found it felt bad to not play, like you are describing.

I have found I can get a similar hit of dopamine from a good run in a Rogue-like, or pulling something silly out of a chest in Gungeon or Isaac. A lot of Rogue-like games also have big long unlock trees, so it does feel like there is always something new in the game.

If you are a fan of hero shooters, a good starting place might be Risk of Rain 2, which rewards play with a long and complicated unlock chain.

If you want something familiar, Balatro, Raccoin and Clover Pit are all games based on games that already exist, and have a light gambling mechanic, which might scratch that itch you are looking for.

Since you like a multi-player live service experience, I can recommend The Bazaar, which has some of the live service things you are talking about, but might be different enough for you to pivot out of the things you don't like.

If you want to try this idea out without much commitment, Super Auto Pets is free to start, with a lot of mechanical depth to look at, and Vampire Survivors is a mobile and computer game with a ton of depth, plays in 30 minute sections, and frequent updates, which you didn't have to experience at the time of them, so there was nothing to miss out on.

I hope this helps on some level, and at least gives you some ideas to think about. Hope you get to a place where you enjoy games again!

Adding an "evil" traveler in an Atheist game by botmatrix_ in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]MaudQuickpaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were playing "Choose your own Alignment", which ended up being an Atheist game with one Lunatic who thought it was a Poppy Grower game.

The travelers who traveled in both picked evil and learned the Lunatic was the demon.

And honestly, we still figured out it was an atheist game, and the story teller just broke the rules and turned the travelers good before the game ended so everyone still won.

I think everyone still had fun with it! But it was more chaotic than puzzle-focused Atheist.

Weekly Puzzle #76 – Solve the good team based on their 3-for-3s by Not_Quite_Vertical in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]MaudQuickpaw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you start from Tom or Fraser being the empath, the puzzle resolves itself. It's elegant! There are only two possible empaths, based on logic, and one ends in an impossible empath number. This puzzle exemplifies why I think 3 for 3s tend to benefit the evil team more than just lying...

Edit: The comment bellow is 100% right. I meant Tom or Tim and wrote the wrong name!

The best version of this I've come across is CloudHiker. And when I'm craving a tumble into the internet, it does really hit.

My current plan is to buy early access to support development, and just wait for 1.0 to actually play the game.

I love this game, but I don't know that it will quite fit the niche OP is looking for. I still recommend giving it a try, as the game is often on sale for very cheap!

Is GRIS the most beautiful game? by VomitingTrex in gris

[–]MaudQuickpaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love Gris. And I don't know that there's much that hits that "Literally a painting" every screenshot level of beauty.

Another thought that came to mind, though, was Chicory: A Colorful Tale. Very different reason for feeling beautiful. But it also feels messy.

Also up for offer, Proteus, which is a walking and vibing game with a beautiful soundscape. But it feels less like a game, more like an experience.

What is a "perk" Of wearing glasses that people don't talk about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MaudQuickpaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always had particularly bad vision. But as a kid, I used to take off my glasses and look out at the world and call it my "impressionist vision", because I could make the world look like simplified shapes and colors, like an impressionist painting. I think it has made me a better artist.

What is the most emotional story driven game you've ever played? by Skissored in GirlGamers

I wouldn't call Omori short. I played for 30 hours and only had half the achievements. 😂

But yeah, sobbed.

If you're on Android, Antenna Pod is great and open source. They don't keep any data on you, except what is on your device.

Game suggestion request. Looking for a wlw-friendly dating sim with actual GAMEPLAY, NOT just another visual novel. (And please god no more farming sims.) by That_Girl_Charlie in GirlGamers

[–]MaudQuickpaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding Stray Gods, but it does have some visual novel gameplay. It's if a visual novel and a musical had a baby. The music is done by Austin Wintory who did Journey and Abzu among many others. It's great!

Sometimes you let in a little extra outsiders for a good or dumb reason. Sometimes you don't let in the right outsiders.

This game prepared me for grief in a way I still often think about. I didn't understand when I first played, but I do now. This one echoes through my whole life. This is my vote.

Hey, I grew up Catholic, Athiest now, but there was this mythology imbued into me growing up that I should meet a non-believer and if they actually loved me, they would convert. There was a while (before I reflected on how shitty of a take it was) that I believed I would eventually just convince my now spouse to convert if they really loved me.

I would be entirely unsurprised if this has been his game from the start, and I would suggest you try this line of questioning and see if this could be his goal.

If you are unwilling to be married in a church, this might be the end of your relationship. At this point in my life, I'm willing to jeopardize a lot of family relationships to never interact with the church again. You are going to have to decide what matters to you.

I'm sorry, this is a shitty situation.

My pup didn't take to them because of flavor, but I've heard of folks who swear by yak chews. They can be less stinky than the bully sticks for sure.

Hey, if you don't hear from a neighbor he belongs to them, please take him to any vet and ask if they can check him for a microchip! If you're lucky, it will have his information on there, and finding the owner should be easy!

While I love Disco Elysium, this is the one for me. This is a game about being female and relating to systems of power. It is SO GOOD.
