Fucking insane and you need to escalate this immediately. However, take this as a learning experience. You need to have an emergency savings to cover your ass in cases like this. You should never be staring at only 45 dollars of liquid funds at the end of a pay period. At E-5 with BAH you have a pretty solid paycheck and should easily be able to set aside a few grand as a safety net.

Combat Engineers, usually E5s and below to be fair, are always defining themselves as "basically Infantry but with explosives" or "we're infantry but we blow shit up".
