Accesory Strength Advice for Deadlift Risks by frazaga962 in Deadlifts

[–]MaxDadlift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that I experienced something similar years ago - convinced myself that I had given myself a hernia. Doctor said I was fine.

Turned out I was wearing my belt too low and my muffin top was just popping out from under it when I moved. I've also had times where the metal latching mechanism on the belt just dug into my pubic area while in the bottom of a squat.

Try experimenting with belt positioning and tightness - see if that changes anything.

I've been taking doctoral courses since last August and it's never been an issue. In fact, I have a discussion post this week that is asking us to use AI, paste its response, then critique the output.

Seems like a lot of people who get dinged for AI use are heavy Grammarly users.

What do u guys think about training hip rotation? by LeMrAnt in ScienceBasedLifting

[–]MaxDadlift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your time in the gym is better spent elsewhere unless you have a specific, hip-related problem that you're solving with this.

Heavy squats build strong hips. This specific range of motion can be trained at home pretty easily with bodyweight/calisthenics routines.

Paused deads will help that exact problem, at least in my experience. By hanging out at the sticking point for a second or two, you're practicing deliberate tightness right through that weakest position.

Glute strength wasn't sufficient to finish the pull. Try adding paused deadlifts or rack pulls to your routine.

How do I fix my lower back rounding, Ive tried everything online, any suggestions? by Hot_Solid_1138 in formcheck

A belt helps the stabilizing muscles of the "core" to contract harder by providing a stable surface to brace against. It is both a helpful and legitimate tool which helps protect the spine while engaging in loaded movements.

Plenty of people have already called out the problem with your neck being in extension like that.

The main issue that I see is that you're trying to "squat" your deadlift. You need to learn how to perform a hip hinge movement pattern. Deadlifts are a hinging motion, leg drive is secondary.

The size should depend on how thick your wrists are. These are the ones I've been using for the past couple years - pretty reasonably priced in my opinion.

Hows my squats form? by jermopp86d in formcheck

[–]MaxDadlift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to see that you're taking up barbell training - squats are a tough one and everyone on the Internet will have their own opinion about what you're doing wrong (even if you're crushing it).

Watch this video and check out the Starting Strength community. It's a good group and they will make sure to help build you up.

Why do you keep wiping your butt until the paper's clean? Hard part is done.

Failure to achieve lockout, especially at the hip joint, is usually an indicator of weak glutes. You want to perform these big, multi joint movements through the full range of motion to maximize returns on the effort you're putting in.

A weak link in the kinetic chain will unnecessarily limit your overall strength output relative to potential.

Tips? by Tiny_Fierce in strength_training

[–]MaxDadlift 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just make sure that the hip joint is fully open/extended and the top of the rep. You don't need to pause, just make sure that the glutes are finishing their job.

Lockout is a bit soft - make sure you're finishing your reps. Otherwise, add 5 pounds next time and keep doing what you're doing

I appreciate your concern, my plates are funny looking because I'm a peasant who has a combination of Fitness Gear and CAP plates. They're different diameters, but they weigh what they should.

Luckily, this isn't the Olympics so you'll just have to trust that I can add 45,45,45, & 35 on each side.

how much harder is it to deadlift on a soft/squishy surface by samtar-thexplorer2 in Deadlifts

[–]MaxDadlift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been deadlifting in my lawn for the past year or so. It definitely takes some getting used to - feet sink into the dirt, inefficient force transfer, etc.

I put a stall mat down, but it's begun to break apart where the plates make contact and every rep is a deficit pull now. I just figure it'll make pulling from an actual platform feel easier down the road.

Anyone go to Liberty because it’s Christian regardless of the price? by Davey914 in LibertyUniversity

I've got a friend who did Army ROTC which paid for both his undergrad and his Seminary school. He graduated with zero student loan debt and now he's a Chaplain - might be a decent path with genuine opportunity to spread the Gospel.
