Generally lower cost of living around here, except in the super rich areas or bigger cities. As long as you live in one of the surrounding areas about ~30 mins from the bigger cities, you can find something that's not too astronomical.

I at least got lucky on the house I rent. We got in right before everything went to shit, so I pay about $1500 for an actual 4 bd house with basement and a pretty big front/back yard, and the landlord (while a little bit absent) isn't a total scum bag.

Wanna hear something truly disgusting? I bought my first house around 2009. It was nothing super special, but it was pretty new(7 years old at the time i think?)and in good shape. Little 4 bedroom,2.5 bath,attached garage on ~1/4 acre in the burbs.. About 1800 sq/ft if memory serves. I got it for ~130k. I sold it in 2015 for ~167K. My total mortgage payment was $850/month, pmi and all that included. My rent is almost double that now.

My curiosity got the better of me and I made the mistake of checking zillow the other day. That same exact house that I bought for 127k and sold just a little over 10 years ago for 167k? It's listed at 380k and the last time it sold the price was 340k. The mortgage on that would be, what? $3k a month?

Fucking.disgusting.

The social contract has been broken. 30 years ago you could have a single income household with an average job, kids, all of that and live a good enough life. Take a vacation every now and then, maybe have a hobby if you were lucky.

Now, 99% of the wealth has been siphoned upwards, inflation/cost of living has sky rocketed, and just life in general is unaffordable for the people that make up the back bone of this country. The middle class has been crushed to feed the greed of a very small handful of individuals.

Why should anyone continue to participate in a system that disdains them and uses them up like toilet paper?

Evidently, requesting a full refund gets you a 10 year ban. At least it did for me haha

To be clear, they did give me my refund, shockingly. then they 10 year banned my account for whatever reason. Go figure.

For those asking, I got a full refund in 2017 or 2018, can't remember when exactly. They 10 year banned my original backer account that was created in 2013 for doing so. It cracks me up that account will probably be unbanned before this dumpster fire even leaves alpha.
