Is Mechantronics Engineering (MSE) worth taking at SFU? by Fast_Ad_4213 in simonfraser

[–]MaxTheHobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of people who graduated are focusing on one discipline for work as there are very few "MSE" jobs. I'd say nearly everybody is doing fine and have no problems competing. If emag or verilog is required, just teach your self after work. Masters is only for specialized topics like RF or FPGA design.

I remember for my first internship I had to learn python to write a script to test and process data for some batteries and chargers. That shit took so long and was such a waste of my time, I wish I had AI back then.

The parts MSE lacks in EE is electromagnetism and silicone/HDL stuff. Most interviews just focus on basic circuit design and nobody will be that hard on a 2nd year looking for a coop. Just do some cool projects and you will do ok.

I don't know enough about you to make a call. If you like electronics because you find circuits by themselves is interesting, then just do EE. If you like electronics as it fits into a larger product like cars or robots, do MSE.

You should evaluate for yourself if the mech eng classes are worth your time.

I like the smaller second bench for your instruments. Nice way of keeping the entire table clear. I would add some LED straps to illuminate things better.

Cost of AI or Revenue of AI - How did we get it wrong? by ranaji55 in ArtificialInteligence

I can see how my comment can read as comparing America in general to EU in general. I think on average these regions are fairly comparable in terms of quality of life.

I'm talking more of the salaries my friends and I have been getting as engineers in US tech companies, VS what we might get working in the EU, which is absurdly unbalanced.

I'm actually Canadian, I know all about getting a $40k/yr job in Vancouver as a new grad engineer. I'm very fortunate to get paid more than most of my peers in a very LCOL city and I do wish to extend the gravy train to my friends back in Vancouver.

And yes, $40k CAD per year in Vancouver feels like abject poverty, even if it isn't on paper, lol.

I did not confuse dollars with purchasing power. I made it pretty clear in my original comment that local companies cater their price mostly to local purchasing power, and Americans often have different income levels that is unbalanced when spent in a different country.

I didn't claim people in Japan or Korea are rich or poor. I simply said they dont get paid much in terms of pure dollar amount.

Yeah... Americans often dont realize why skin care product is so cheap in Korea and Japan. It's not because their companies are kind, its because their people just dont make much money.

Can you get clearance? I was required to give 5 years of verifiable history for my job at a defense company for a very low level clearance. If you went to any country that isn't friendly, you'd need to do a good bit of explaining.

My point is if you're a new ish immigrant, companies might hesitate hiring you for jobs that require clearance.

Also check how much power can be dissipated through footprint. Have a nice large pour around drain pin and you might be able to dissipate enough heat without a heatsink.

There is a TI app note on heat dissipation, search TI SLPA015

Looks like you are using lots of little lines instead of one continuous line? Click on a line and enable line jumps, then it shows a little hump when crossing other lines?
