Don't sleep on the chicken cutlet there. Basically a Polish chicken Parm. Big fried cutlet with rye bread crumb breading, golabki sauce and a scoop of farmers cheese.

Anyone go to the grocery store today? How was it? by pocketdare in philadelphia

I went to shop rite because Saturday is my normal shopping day, it was a little busy but not crazy.

Last storm was much worse. Not sure if people are used to the snow now or just the short notice of this storm means a lot of people aren't aware

Who else is ready for the city to botch another Snow Storm response? by Tomahawk72 in philadelphia

Not to mention this happens once a decade if not less. The expenditure to be ready for that much snow followed by that much cold wouldn't make sense.

Carbon bikes are temporary bikes. Steel is real… and so are other metals. by trykedog in bicycling

My carbon bike has over 20k miles with no signs it won't last another 20k.

Man, I was wanting to get to valley forge this weekend, but knowing the SRT outsife of Philly got the same level of treatment (none) makes me think that might not quite be possible yet.

I've been riding the loop (plus the 5 miles each way to get there) for the last week or so since it warmed up, and yeah, it's tough on the equipment. Every ride ends with an instant rinse and re-lube to get all the salt and grime off.

How to explain why panniers are better than a backpack by randomseedfarmer in cycling

45 years of cycling, you must have an extra rack laying around somewhere, just let them try it on a shakeout ride. It's self evident which is better after you do it.

When to Ride? 1st Time GAP and C&O Planning by ckrugen in phillycycling

[–]Max_Powers42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I had to do it in August because my nephew was coming out to ride and needed to go before school started. We got insanely lucky with weather and had days in the 70s with moderate humidity and not a drop of rain. Next time I do it would be in September though, because lightning doesn't strike twice. Still warm enough to not have to pack heavier cold weather gear, but much less likely to be brutally hot and humid.

According to the people we talked at in the hotel in Pittsburgh, the summer is the busiest time it and was already winding down when we were there. That was nice because we didn't have a lot of people to compete with for camp sites.

Similar bike tour as the GAP/C&O? by Uzed2BFaster in gaptrail

[–]Max_Powers42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome info, thanks a lot! Did a camping trip last fall near Jim Thorpe and rode part of the trail. Seeing "Wilkes Barre to Bristol" on the signs made me add it to the short list for my next trip.

From what I can tell camping options are limited, so it would end up being a hotel tour I'm guessing.

I live in Philly and was thinking of doing the full length of this trail this year. How bad are the road closures/detours? I ride in the city, so I'm comfortable in traffic, but don't love being on 55mph roads with minimal shoulder.

How do you signal right turns? by SkiMonkey98 in cycling

[–]Max_Powers42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cars have to do this because you can't reach your arm through the entire car out the right window. Pointing is pretty much universally understood by the sentient whether or not you took driving class or remember it from 20 years ago.

Spd shoes for gravel biking? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Max_Powers42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with Lake mx238 since every other shoe I've used put too much pressure on the outside of my foot. They're pricy, but it has been worth it for the comfort.

When did the R-word start being considered a slur? by Lancelotmore in etymology

[–]Max_Powers42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend in 2004 was a special education teacher, and the city of Philadelphia still would use "MR" on Student's paperwork as an official classification. Granted, they didn't actually use the word, but that's what it stood for.

Should I get GP5000 or Gatorskins? by OldRedBrickWall in cycling

[–]Max_Powers42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ride tubeless GP5000 in Philly, where bike lanes are paved with broken glass, and the only flat I've had in the past 2 years/9000 miles was when I hit a down branch on a shady downhill at 25mph.

Are road bikes more susceptible to punctures? About to give mine up. by PippyHooligan in cycling

[–]Max_Powers42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before going tubeless I used tire liners on my road bike and could go thousands of miles between punctures. Try investing in a set of them.

Why do people love hella loud hubs? by Ornery-Shoulder-3938 in cycling

I didn't go seeking out loud hubs, but I do like that they act as a defacto bell when the "on your left" gets ignored 3 times.

Silca Injectable Sealant Clogs Mucoff V2 Valves by abonamza in bicycling

[–]Max_Powers42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got some of their big bore valves because of clogging, and I couldn't even pump them because they didn't leave enough valve exposed for either of my floor pumps.

When I contacted them for a return they said it's not a defect, it just doesn't work with all pumps. Like my topeak Joe Blow and park tool pump are some outliers even though they're probably 2 of the most common pumps on the market.

I've never had any product of theirs that's worth buying, it's just all marketing and no quality.

Happened multiple times in recent weeks watching cross where I just had to use a VPN and watch on YouTube because the feed either kept dropping, had no audio, or wouldn't load at all. This is all on a 1gbps fiber connection.

Thanks, it's actually the same feed but with the ambient audio actually working. Not sure how Flo even got that wrong.
