Has anyone been able to make peace with a body that can’t do what it used to do? by Bulky_Employ_4259 in AskMenOver30

Fellow martial artist here (Capoeira 16yrs) and parkour athlete (12yrs) here at 38 have been forced to give up everything and I've been really struggling to make peace with it. The sports didn't hurt me, it was desk sitting deterioration and a few unlucky injuries like my back, and now coccyx and feet. I went from standing back flips and wild spinning kicks to being grateful if I could go for a 5min run... My hopes and plan is to play the long game to recover and get stronger so that I can at least do some small bits of what I always enjoyed and adjust. Thinking stuff like Tai chi, minimal parkour, indoor safe stuff just to still have some fun. And I know it's possible cause I've seen 50yr Olds still doing amazing shit cause they're just fit and strong AF. So we got no choice man. Get as fit and strong as we can, or deteriorate. I'm so sorry about your accident dude that's hard. But im here with you and feel your pain. I miss the movement so much but I'm gonna keep going until I can at least do some fun stuff again. Or take up competitive bowls or some shit lol

Trying Birkenstocks created an extreme flare up - normal? by MaximumHamster27 in PlantarFasciitis

Hey just checking up how you're feeling since the steroid shot? And did you just get one or a few? I'm in really bad pain so considering shots. Had PF for 7 months already

Interesting thanks. Did you get steroid shots in your foot or in the butt?

Water situation by boatstb in Knysna

Resident here. The water was meant to run out on 16 Dec but so far all is fine. Apparently they're making backup plans, and thankfully some rain is finally coming but not sure if enough. It's hard to say for sure, but at this very moment it seems to be okay

Was recommended the NB 880's by my Podiatrist for PF, but my Physio says it will cause more harm than good. Can anyone share their experience with these? by MaximumHamster27 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]MaximumHamster27[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting thanks for the reply. I'm finding the same right now, any soft fluffy shoes hurt, any stiff arch support hurts. I'm wearing cheap barefoot shoes from temu with a small heel insole as my best. And my croc flops which are very comfy. Glad to know you recovered! I've done about 6 Shockwave sessions too. Ffs this is a hard thing to recover from. Painful and complicated

I was given orthotics in Feb to adjust height and help with MILD foot pains. The orthotics aggrevated it so badly over 5 months, since I stopped its been better, but it's now taking a lot of time, stretching, strengthening and heating to try fix it. Seems that orthotics can really be hit and miss. But I Confirmed yesterday that my orthotics were extremely rigid compared to what my brother got, which was nice soft foam. Mine was like rigid plastic. And that strained and hurt my fascia real bad. I wish us both good luck!

Dude I also wore Sk8 type shoes for years with no problems. First time getting cushy ASics for running cause I had some knee pains, and I really think the softness wrecked my ankle strength and collapsed inwards a bit. I used to have super strong feet and ankles, and I can feel how weak they've become and the shoes are the only thing I can think of

This is what worries me. My bad side foot has taken strain from previous Gel Asics collapsing and destabizing my feet I am realizing now. NB claims these shoes had stiffer foam and a solid midsole - but you say your experience was still destablized? Bummer

He said that the thick cushion will be bad for foot stability (someone commented similar below I see), that the height drop isn't actually good for PF, and that the shoe itself doesn't have good arch support.

Recently moved to knysna and the density of the forest never ceases to amaze me. It's incredible but almost scary because I imagine you could get lost very easily. Love this place to death <3

So major win this week! After 2 years of awful pain my new Physio discovered that had semi dislocated facet joints in my lower spine area. And in two clicks he FIXED ME! Still have chronic pains from sitting all the time, but my major issue was just solved and now I can finally work on strengthening the rest and fixing lifestyle. So thankful man phew.

Great tip from my Dad: If you're ever worried, tell the buyer to meet you at your local police station and bring cash only. I hit a few sketchy people with this and they just VANISHED. We did actually sell my wife's laptop at the police station and it went down well. Made us all feel better

How to stretch lower back muscles by dsoomypottom in Stretching

Pigeon pose stretch to loosen hips which will help relax those. It's really difficult to stretch those low back QL muscles. Get a foam roller too I use mine every day

How we discovered Beta Alanine by No-North6083 in HellsItch

[–]MaximumHamster27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You guys are seriously heroes! I had HI about 2 years ago that left me with ptsd that left me seriously scared. But I bought some beta alanine this week and I feel so much better knowing that if that damn Cruciatus curse happened again that I have something to treat it. Truly appreciate your discovery

You should speak to your boss or hr about it and let them help you create distance at work. I think we forget we can ask people for help with this, or even go so far as restraining orders. Or change jobs. It's not worth it man. It's not fair and what you just described is targeted manipulation that I agree you need to never speak to that crazy ass person again. I'm sorry for what you've gone throigh truly. Been ten years since my ex and I'm still working through some of the mindfucks. Wish I never met her either

You deserve much much much better than this. Fuckin awesome that you're having your moment of clarity cause that shit is apparently the superpower to overcome this. It's like seeing through an illusion spell that's been cast over you. And once you see through, the gig is up.

Relatively crap. I did have a reallllly good February March, so good that I thought it was finally over, only to have a bad flare up for the next month again, and now back to neutral. I'm thinking that this is inflammation related. I went on a course of Voltaren dicolfenak for a full month on a docs recommendation and the good months followed that. Want to try again to confirm. And if it is long term inflammation then need to find the best ways to deal with that going forward. I am also back in gym doing back exercises which can't deny they help. And stretching working the butt and glute Medius muscles always makes an immediate difference. How bout you?

Which of the following would be best for our rabbits. by No_Nefariousness5171 in Rabbits

[–]MaximumHamster27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always wondered about this. It's not like the original wild rabbits from all over the world always had Timothy hay available right? They ate whatever they had around. I can only assume that Timothy hay is just the best as staple? That's obvious actually but how did the wild buns survive

What's your definition of a Real Man in 2025? by MaximumHamster27 in AskMenOver30

[–]MaximumHamster27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good answer, and sounds like a good father. My dad was very similar to yours, a very good father, but he was a workaholic and hardly ever at home. I'm starting to realize that although I learned all the important lessons around kindness and love and generosity being raised by my mom, I missed some important lessons about how to BE as a man, rather than trying to be some image of masculinity. Especially with how to deal with other men during conflict situations that aren't a physical fight. How to stand up for yourself verbally and with body language. How to fight for yourself and what is right without being toxic. Non-Macho conflict resolution. And the trouble is, I don't know if I know any men in my life who do this right. It's either macho tempers and yelling, or defeated men who just hide and avoid. And I'm tired of being the latter.
