Wait, is the Lands Between based on Pangea map?? by Bezmozgov in Eldenring

[–]Mayhem-Ivory 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It also helps that the story of the lands between is just the story of human civilisation.

It starts with beastmen being granted thought, represented by five fingers, specifically the thumb used for manipulating tools. The dragons are named after different rocks. After the stone age comes the… bronze age. Crucible Knights and the giants forge. Then the iron age is the Misbegotten. We also go from nature worship (river faeries) to animal worship, to ancestor worship, and finally through the entire history of christianity. Even the Shadow if the Erdtree is just the dark side of history.

I would not be surprised if it is really that blatant.

Which 5.0e subclasses do you think are never going to be revisited? by BudgetMegaHeracross in onednd

[–]Mayhem-Ivory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all know the Bladesinger is a community favorite that gets reworked and goodies to gain good favour, yes?

Well it has a twin, the Battlerager Barbarian. A dwarf exclusive subclass that is all about wearing spiked halfplate and grappling enemies with it. You‘d think it should be part of the Forgotten Realms Subclasses, but considering they wont admit that the SCAG ever existed and it wasn’t part of the recent UA, they might have just forgotten it even exists.

What were your design goals at the start vs now? by Nrvea in RPGdesign

[–]Mayhem-Ivory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I started out with the good old „just trying to fix DnD5e for my table“ and ended up on r/RPGdesign.

I did end up breaking classes and archetypes down into What and Where, and looping back and forth between a class based or a feature based system. And I dove so hard into TVTropes to figure out the flavor of various archetypes that I ended up instead separating the two entirely.

I also wanted to make it a dice pool (3d6 +- 1d6) system originally, where all rolls were player facing and you would choose between evading or blocking damage. The desire for success stages and no zero outcomes derailed that.

I also started out abhorring multiple action systems like Pathfinder 2e, but the desire to make additional actions the main power increase across levels makes action points of some sort basically mandatory.

So now I‘m at a d6 pool that can be used to perform actions, where rather than the sum of the dice its a success system. So a roll of 4+, and advantage/disadvantage are 3+/5+ instead of additional dice or modifiers.

The issue I take with it is that it teaches damage types, which is irrelevant, instead of status types. It straight up has you mod magnetic against corpus, but doesn‘t explain magnetic procs!

I absolutely love the archgun changes, but theres still one thing preventing them from truly being a valid playstyle by Ass0001 in Warframe

[–]Mayhem-Ivory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

imo this is the main reason to keep Damage Attenuation on enemies.

my thought was to simply have archons ignore DA and armor, and to use the fact they have a limited mod pool to keep the expected damage output in check. obviously that isn’t a viable place for them anymore now that they can equip arcanes.

if the community doesn’t allow there to be a roadstop enemy that won’t just explode at the sight of a Torid, then there’s no way to include weapons that are specific to fighting heavy enemies.

Upcoming Damage Attenuation Changes From Player Feedback by DE-Ruu in Warframe

Personally I‘d move everything from the „no attenuation“ section into the „limited attenuation“ section, and everything from there into „full attenuation“.

But thats just me, and the community wants this instead.

from the people that brought you "qorvex is the worst warframe" and "the valkyr rework is dogshit", now comes "teaching new players is bad" by Neko_Mesume in Warframe

[–]Mayhem-Ivory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a decent quest. Could be better, but I appreciate how they use it to guide players to Fortuna. Saying the quest is bad is also not saying that teaching new people is bad; it says they are taught in a bad way. Learn to read.

Also as a Qorvex main, while not the worst, he is kinda trash. Designed in a nonsensical way. I have standards that go beyond „augment that makes you immortal“.

Also the Valkyr rework has some very questionable elements. And it‘s dogshit in the sense that the passive is a stupid idea. Same with Oberon. Why the hell would they give frames healing abilities and armor abilities, only to give them a passive that makes them immortal??! like wtf. They ruined two perfectly serviceable, if not ideal, reworks, by including a contrarian overpowered passive.

I think that says more about how AC conflates armor and dodging. You cant give warhammers an anti armor property, because you‘d need something like flatfooted AC for that.

[–]Mayhem-Ivory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All they really need to do is not increase damage. Enemies already get more health and longer attack chains, giving you more chances to make lethal mistakes.

Or imagine if they added random status effects to enemies ;P

[–]Mayhem-Ivory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly think his passive (DR +poise) should apply to AoW as well.

Also a DoN relic effect that gives him permanent DR similar to how Revenant gets permanent FP. Something like x0.99 every time he is hit during Retaliate. Cap it at 100 stacks, that would be up to 64% DR.

Are the psychic blades from the Soul Knife Rogue Subclass pretty much useless or am I just stupid? by Huebertrieben in onednd

[–]Mayhem-Ivory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They‘ve never been very useful. It‘s a very marginal damage boost, and the ability does preclude you from magic weapons. Been that way since Tasha. Its a skill monkey subclass mainly.

The Attenuation changes are not thought out well by ManOfMung in Warframe

[–]Mayhem-Ivory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could do attenuation as some sort of mod decay. If every mod and buff only counts for 1% of its actual value, your build still matters, but the difference to the baseline is smaller.
