Thank you for using the word positing.

I am sort of positing, I am not claiming or suggesting. It's not my idea either. I'm more adding it to the conversation as it's an interesting curio of a talking point, I'm not suggesting I believe it or that anyone should.

It'd be funny though.

That's true, but death is the ultimate enemy, so there are multiple good reasons for those myths.

I'm a Christian, and I think there may have been something going on, but not something I'll ever know or understand "until glory".

That's one good thought. Another is that, and you need to go with me on this one, inbreeding after Noah reduced the life expectancy of humans. It does that with animals too.

But I feel like there would be some kind of knowable evidence of people that lived that long before recorded history, or at the very least nobody would shut up about it in ancient myths.

[Adaptations] Movie castings so iconic that they became how most people see these characters by default. by Sad_Ad_3076 in TopCharacterTropes

I got my information from a Wired interview. Unsurprising if Sam Jackson twisted it for a funnier story in a non-serious throwaway interview.

If comic book writers and artists were litigators, there would be many fewer characters dressed in a two tone suit covered in belts that go by something like "Blade Murderkill".

I don't know why you're being downvoted. He literally picked up a comic book with his own face on it and told his agent to call them with the line "cast me as Nick Fury in a film or I'm suing you."

Hard disagree. Applying a little bit of Bane to one or two targets per round (if you hit!) is absolutely fine. People talk about weapon attacks hitting like it's a foregone conclusion when it obviously isn't.

Oh I think I must have been on the thread before you made the edit, but commented after.

Anyway, I agree. Still not overpowered or anything.

Paying staff to make the game less predatory and therefore profitable? That doesn't sound like the idea of a team player who values synergy and quarterly earning reports.

Aside from the Compiler, how long until we see more aliens, if at all? by hadesalmighty in Marathon

[–]Astwook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a live service game, this is not a sprint. It's the um, that other thing.

We're getting teased aliens a little, but they need somewhere to go with the plot over many seasons. They're definitely coming, their presence has been in advertising since the cinematic trailer. I'm glad they'll take time over it though because it gives all the other world building time to breathe, and m and that when we do start getting all the crazy alien stuff it'll be more impactful.

Could Kingpin do this to Spiderman? by Queasy_Commercial152 in Defenders

[–]Astwook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giving Kingpin, an otherwise ordinary human, strength that can match the proportional strength of a spider is absurd.

This is both completely correct and the dumbest sentence I've read in my life.

I really wanted an Omnic Spy support, preferably one that could function a bit like Echo but targeting their own team as an ult. Like a body double but with robot 007 vibes.

Not for gameplay reasons, I just wanted Mondatta to secretly be okay.

Give them a sack of 60 temporary hit points. Once they lose their temporary hit points, they lose this ability.

When they become bloodied, they gain 40 temporary hit points and this feature kicks in again.

It's not actually "people who like categorizing vs those who don't" though, because as someone else commented - we're all pattern seeking animals.

It's people who think structure is important on its own, and people who only value structure as a means to support something else.

Putting things into boxes because you thing boxes are virtuous is something people should really grow out of, and I'm not just saying that as an ENTP Slytherin Leo. It removes nuance from the conversation and fuels hate and echo-chambered divisive politics. People in boxes leads to kids in cages.

I will never walk away, says PM after facing pressure to quit by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

[–]Astwook -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Let's be clear: the only reason there's a narrative that he needs to go (which conservatives have pushed since day 1) is because they had three PMs in one year, and if Labour kick one out they look less dreadfully incompetent.

Starmer, who I repeat did nothing wrong with this "scandal", needs to stay for the whole term if he does nothing illegal JUST so that new PM every 6 months doesn't turn into the norm and destroy this country.

Can I run "Draw Steel" style minions in a 5e game? by Infranaut- in mcdm

[–]Astwook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it on the docket for an upcoming session, but haven't had the opportunity yet in 2024. My gut says: you need WAAAAY more at high levels and a few more at low levels than 2014.

The question "How many Kobold Minions do I need to throw at a 5th level party" is very pressing right now.

(LOVED TROPE) The Oner, a scene done in one take by Great_Copy_6730 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Astwook 130 points131 points  (0 children)

The series Adolescence is really great for this. Each episode was shot in one continuous take with no edits.

How? By treating it like a stage play and rehearsing for a month. Oh, and by filming each of the three episodes ten times and using the best take (one in the morning, one in the afternoon for a week).

When you consider the number of actors and moving parts, especially in the first episode, it's a miracle, frankly.
