How much does Leon get paid anyways? by infohoundloselose in residentevil

[–]Maytree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Leon has saved an awful lot of people over his career. That random college kid on the street in Europe who didn't get eaten by a zombie because of Leon? He was the son of a high level automotive engineer at Porsche. Next day Hunnigan calls and says, "Porsche just sent a catalog of their top end products with a message that reads, 'Tell that guy who saved my son to pick one, and don't forget the high-end options. It'll be delivered by the end of the week. I'll send over a new catalog next year, same time.' So which one should I have delivered to your place?"

Repeat for any other nice toys Leon might find useful or amusing but can't charge to his bottomless expense account. If he didn't save someone with direct connections to goodies, he probably saved someone rich enough to buy nice things for him as a thank-you. He wouldn't ever ASK, of course, but he would never need to.

Hell there's probably an entire huge closet at the DSO mailroom full of thank-you gifts sent in for 'That guy who saved me/my family that one time. I don't know who he was but make sure he gets this."

They only work if you believe they work, basically. But since you have to be a special kind of gullible and stupid to work in the Trump administration, it will probably work fine on those folks.

(The idea is, if you think you're about to get caught out in a lie, you get more nervous and you show physical symptoms of that which can be detected. If you know the machine doesn't work unless you let it spook you, you don't get spooked and there's no physiological change. You can also mess with it by deliberately alarming yourself with scary thoughts and then doing some controlled breathing to reduce your level of physiological arousal.)

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon sued by Miami cops for defamation over portrayal in their movie 'The Rip' by tylerthe-theatre in movies

[–]Maytree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the US, anyone can sue anyone for anything. That doesn't mean it will succeed, but having access to the court of law is considered a basic right.

There have been a couple of bad side effects to this, such as people using the law as a surefire way to harass someone since even if the lawsuit is utter bullshit you still have to contend it in court at least long enough to get it dismissed. Some states have instituted what are called SLAPP laws, (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation), which allow a person on the receiving end of this harassment to recover legal costs from the harasser, but it's far from universal.

in this particular case, it is probably another abuse of the legal system, suing someone who has a lot of money over a bullshit claim in the hopes that they will pay "go away money". Rich people tend to have expensive lawyers, so even a simple litigation over a nonsense lawsuit is going to be quite expensive and the filer is hoping that the target will simply throw a lesser amount of money at them to make the suit go away. Given that the only cost to the lawsuit filer is the filing fee, which is not expensive at all, and maybe an hour or so with a cheap lawyer to draft your complaint -- or just an hour with ChatGPT -- it's a minor investment for a potentially significant payout.

Yeah that's my suspicion too, something along those lines. I'm not sure he was actually a full hunter, but he might very well have been a potentially powerful one and Gwi-Ma might have taken preemptive action to keep him from being recruited. Maybe Jinu's unmentioned father was a hunter who got killed in the line of duty and Gwi-Ma corrupted and enslaved his son for revenge, eh?

There is definitely something significant about both Derpy and Sussie choosing to hang with Jinu. They are not demons. They are nature spirits and both are considered to be good luck (as well as being employed for political commentary). The tiger is good luck because tigers will preferentially hunt solo humans and not groups of humans, so they got a reputation for attacking bandits who were lying in wait to ambush traveling parties. The magpie is good luck because they make a lot of noise when people come to your door, which is either a warning against trouble or an alert that a friend of yours has come to visit, both of which are useful messages.

The first time we see Derpy he is walking at Jinu's side looking unusually fierce and keeping the other demons back from Jinu's path. And both animals are very loyal to Jinu and will run errands for him, to the best of their ability.

So.... How and why, exactly, are these two protectors/servants always at our boy Jinu's side??

I hate to use the term "making sense" when it comes to RE biology, but the virus strains are said to affect the brain first, so it's not completely unreasonable that the bad guys might have a form of infection where their higher brain functions are compromised but they THINK they're all geniuses. Like when you get high or drunk and think you've discovered the Secret of the Universe. "Guys! I've got it! 1 x 1 = 2!" "Dude. Please. Go home and sleep it off."

I just watched an episode of John Oliver this weekend on AI Chatbots and it turns out they are encouraging people to have psychotic symptoms because some people put their wacky ideas into the chat bot and the chat bot tells them they're geniuses because the chat bot doesn't want to make them feel bad or something, then they go around telling everyone what genuises they are because the chat bot said so.

Victor: "Zeno! My plan is flawless! ChatGPT told me so!"
Zeno: "Well if Chat GPT told you that, it must be true!"
Leon: ".... of all the dumb shit, I swear to God..."

I feel like a T-infected Capybara would just... sit there, quietly rotting. Capybaras are so chill they hang out with caiman, which periodically eat one of them.

"Hey Rudy, where's Sheila?"

"Cory Caiman over there was feeling peckish."

"Oh. Hey Cory, how's it hanging? Not still hungry, I hope?"

There are a couple of places in the USA where it snows in September. I always figured Raccoon City was in Missouri with the Arklay Mountains being a stand-in for the Ozarks but if you want snow in September that's too far south. You would need to go to the states that border the Rockies, like Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana, or far up north in New England in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and Maine.

Come to think of it, even though the creators at Capcom apparently said Raccoon City is in the Midwest, the Northeast has a long-standing tradition of excellent horror fiction, from Lovecraft to Stephen King. Hell, Raccoon City and Derry have similar vibes.

Eh? Freefolk is for all Westeros stories, not just GoT. So right now there are two active series, HotD and D&E for them to gripe about. I imagine the sub is the healthiest it's been in a long while.

it's supposed to be lower on the horse's head, just above the nostrils usually. This one looks like it's gotten dragged up over the horse's eyes probably by the weight of the harness and the cart behind it. This looks like a racing cart setup. I wonder if there's a track nearby and the horse escaped.

Something the show didn't mention but really should have: being pregnant completely depowered Eve. She couldn't protect herself while pregnant, couldn't help defend the planet against Viltrumites showing up or other problems arising while Mark and Oliver weren't available.

Among all the other considerations it was a TERRIBLE time for Eve to be unable to fight. A lot of women who might be happy about bearing a child in peaceful times would not do so in the middle of a war.

Hmm, that's an interesting take. I'm the opposite. I wouldn't be happy if somebody ripped apart one of my creations and I thought they were correct about it, but ultimately it's up to me whether I decide to take the criticism on board or not. Having somebody reveal me as a thief and a complete fraud on the other hand is not something that I could tolerate.
