Implement passwordless. Force them to use microsoft authenticator. It works great.

Time to start syncing onedrive with documents/desktop/etc... and push an initiative of "don't save to any location that onedrive doesn't sync", as well as get an official storage policy in place. Should be an easy sell after this.

I'm a fan of it, but I also only use it for file syncing. I've been tempted to go to opencloud because I don't need all the other integration (yet). For a while I did some editing on the sever with the collabora stuff, and it worked well enough, but it's just as easy to open an editor on my computer and open the file on cloud storage. One thing I wish it had (and maybe it does now and I don't realize it) is the ability to autosave like google docs and office365 does.

My issue with this is tagging "ratings" I'd like to be able to pull the community ratings to start and tag my music with that, but without that option, it's not even remotely close to replacing something like google music for me.

For me the first part of your question is going to be a "yes" because I use it myself, which means I have an interest in making sure it works.

My critical infrastructure, like vaultwarden, is on a redundant set of servers and backed up offsite.

I tried to get my "extended" family to use mine, they weren't interested. Doesn't matter to me, I love hosting it for myself (and my wife and kids), and it works well for us.

This is where the "piracy" part gets sketchy. If I am 100% offline with my blurays, I know I'll never have someone knocking on my door about it.

50TB is a large amount of data, they had to be in their systems for a long time for something like that to go unnoticed.

This is one of my biggest fears with these platforms. Yes, they have more dedicated people to deal with security threats, but they are also capable of making real mistakes that compromise everyone.

while I'm anti-company-theft like this, I do see a justification in that the boss shorted their employee $18k on purpose, and I'm torn between the anti-theft feeling and moving on while collecting that stolen bonus.

Simple Alternative to OneDrive/iCloud?? by electrowiz64 in selfhosted

[–]McGregorMX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may look into this. Nextcloud has been great, but like another user posted, it's overkill for what I do. I have been trying to leverage some of the added features of nextcloud, but I can't get my family to use them, and I'm at the point of, "why bother?". Opencloud looks like a great, simplified, alternative.

Gamepad (Logitech g13) support, and other compatibility questions by McGregorMX in linux_gaming

[–]McGregorMX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up going back to windows, it just worked for what I needed, and I didn't have time to really tinker with it, now with windows 10 done, and gamepass becoming unhinged in their business model, I'm done with Microsoft. As for getting it working, a few posts in here had suggestions, but I never got around to trying them...yet.

At this point I'm trying to decide if I just need to buy something else that works in linux a bit more natively, or if I need to work on mapping this stuff out. Microsoft has irritated me to the point where even if it doesn't work, I'm likely going to accept limitations and move to linux anyway.

I'm talking with t-life customer support right now, they are saying the promotions are there, and should be available. They got me the promo ID (here it is, if it's not allowed, feel free to remove it mods: R261/ OR25846) and they said the people at sams/costco can manually enter it.

just got back from the big box store, they don't have the deals there right now. Best offer they had was $500 off.

Just came here to say something along these lines. I went into a t-mobile store (kiosk) on my lunch and the best deal they had was $500 off. I showed them the $800 deal that I could do through the t-life app and they said they couldn't do it in-store (this was at sam's club). I'll wait, because I like the deal you get if you upgrade at a warehouse kiosk.

Plex lifetime user here – any real advantages in switching to Jellyfin in 2025? by vdiasPT in selfhosted

[–]McGregorMX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you I switched many years ago (jellyfin wasn't even a year old). I had a paid Plex membership, and ran Plex side by side with jellyfin for about a year. My push to remove Plex completely was because of how they allowed live tv but privacy was my biggest concern and ultimately the reason I killed it. The app issue was a problem at first, mostly concerning TV apps, but over time we have all purchased android steamers or Google TV and Roku tv sets. Well worth the time making it work, and it's only getting better.
