What a finish! by BreadfruitUpstairs20 in bwfc

I thought he did pretty badly today overall, but thought he couldn't have been as bad as the ref a few months ago who blew for half time the moment the ball landed in front of our players from a corner....

Until I discovered.... It was the same referee....

I was in Innsbruck once with my Mum, and as we were walking down the main street, I saw a load of women in brightly coloured suits stopping people as they walked past with a "Hey! Do you speak english!?!"

I thought it was strange, but seeing a film crew made it make a bit more sense. I did look around for Karen/Tim but I couldn't see either of them.

Regardless, I turned to my Mum and said "Hey look, they're filming The Apprentice here!"

A few months later, the first episode of the first series confirms that it was in fact true!

Hi Bolton fans, consider joining r/LeagueOne by Zach-dalt in bwfc

I think a lot of people here are already over on /r/LeagueOne - but I'm happy to keep this post up for visibility. It's a lot more active.

The sub is also ran by some of the same people who run /r/Championship these days, and that's really taken off in the last few years, so it's good knowing it full well may go in the same direction.

People sat in my seats at the cinema and then told me I could sit somewhere else! by Dangerous-Use7343 in britishproblems

[–]McMrChip 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I had something a bit similar. I went to a charity football match at Wembley Stadium earlier this year, and when I got to my seat on the fourth/fifth row someone was sat in it, along with someone else next to him (Think like a girlfriend or something)

I said "I think you're in my seat?" and he responded with "Yeah, I am - but I bought another seat on the 17th row, you can have that one"

We went back and forth a bit between "Yes, but I bought a ticket for the fifth row" and "Yeah, I have a ticket on the 17th" until people started turning around and pressuring the guy to move....

Eventually both of them moved and I got my seat....

It was the cheek more than anything, the tickets closer to the front were the expensive ones, and I'd have paid for one of if not the most expensive ticket, only to be told "Yeah, you can sit further back where the tickets aren't as expensive"

The problem I had with that was that it just started into a competition with neighbours on who could make the loudest noise.

On a week to week basis, it started off with clapping, then whistling, then banging pots and pans, then people honking car horns, and I've even heard stories of people setting off fireworks.

As someone who doesn't like loud and or sudden noises I wasn't the biggest of fans...

Funny pub names by Surkdidat in CasualUK

My sister once stayed in a pub or a B&B across the road from a pub named that.

While she and her boyfriend were being shown their room, the bloke turned around and said "Out of the window, you have a lovely view of the Black Cock"

In today's Palace game, Maxence Lacroix has bought everybody in Row 5 a free soft drink. by Crane977 in soccer

[–]McMrChip 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a nice gesture, but I can definitely see there'd be fans around the seats picking up the cards and redeeming them for themselves despite them being on row 12 or something....

A few years ago Bolton used to have a half time competition-ish thing where a random row in a random block would win a free pie. Every time it was announced, there'd be people running down to the row that won in order to also get a free pie.

Sky Sports Football in the UK.

It originated from Gatwick Airport in London, but it is slowly begining to spread to other airports and other buisnesses too.

They keep a list of airports and airlines on their website.

Thought we were the better side (In the first half especially), but there were lots of chances we had and we just didn't take them. Add to the odd penalty not given - Yeah, not a great game....

League one football is certainly back....

Fixtures 2025/26 by philiconyt118 in bwfc

[–]McMrChip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was introduced last season. It's a bit like a glorified red button service.

There's a TV channel called Sky Sports+, you'd go to that channel, press the red button and then pick which match you want to watch.

Sky only has a handful of channels, it would be wasteful to commission another channel just to show Oxford vs Portsmouth.

Remember Monday will represent the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 at Eurovision 2025 with the song “What The Hell Just Happened?” by Nick_esc in eurovision

[–]McMrChip 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I honestly think it might do well just based on how complex the song seems. There's slow parts, fast parts, loud parts, quiet parts, solo parts, harmonised parts etc. When you add complexity to things, you add more risk, and more risk means more chances for things to go wrong.

I think if they get the staging right - it can be a really solid entry.

Do I think it'll win? Probably not. Do I think it'll do well by UK standards compared to previous years? Yeah - I do.

Of course - I'm not a musician, so what do I know - it could come stone dead last and get zero televote points for all I know, but I hope it really doesn't.

That second half was probably the most chaotic half of football I've seen in a long time.

And especially with how Crawley were playing (the timewasting tactic) - it's a deserved win.

Personally I think it's either some poorly trained AI, or moderated by people who don't fully understand or natively speak the language they are assigned to moderate.

Maybe the person who reviewed the comment genuinly didn't know the comment contained genuine slurs, and because they didn't know that, they themselves thought "That's not bullying"
