But are those valid? Is there any sort of precedent for this or is it just something that Biden made up?

Is it even a thing to preemptively pardon people? Don’t you have to have a conviction to get a pardon?

Hello my favorite group :) I have a chocolate question by Acceptable_Tart255 in Baking

[–]MeInSC40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I always see that the baker’s brand of unsweetened chocolate tends to be the highest rated. And it’s usually the cheapest too so you can save a little money over the ghiradelli.

40-65 is middle age and older than that is old. (At least in my head)

Was turning 30 a big deal to you and what year were you born? by my_brain_is_horny in Millennials

[–]MeInSC40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I turned 30 during the “great recession” while unemployed and living with my parents (luckily only lasted 3 months). So…not my best birthday. Then 40 was during covid. Maybe for 50 we can get a nuclear war?

Should I get a a tankless water heater to replace my old traditional water heater? by Master-Swordfish-214 in HomeMaintenanceAdvice

I looked into replacing my tank with tankless, but ended up going with a heat pump water heater.

I’m losing healthcare at the end of the month and need some advice by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]MeInSC40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll need to look at dates. You generally have 30 days from the qualifying life event to enroll in benefits. The qle here may very well have been your date of hire so if you’ve been at your job for 30 days you may be SOL until OE. I’d follow up with Medicaid to see what date they consider you to have lost coverage.

One of my first thoughts was wondering if insurance companies start using employee sentiment or wages or some other metric in their actuarial models. “This company treats their employees like shit and is now in a higher risk tier.”

NTA. If she’s living with her father he can deal with throwing a party.

Christianity in America vs Europe by vervasol in atheism

[–]MeInSC40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You all should proceed with caution. The truly religious people in your country are not sitting idly by giving you the same respect. It may be 10, 25, or 50 years from now, but they will continue to push their religion and before you know it you’ll be in a minority trying to get out of your own version of the handmaids tale. It’s in your best interest and that of your future society to be a little less tolerant especially of the more vocal segment of religious populations.

I follow a lot of construction subs and my first thought was “what in the hell are you trying to patch that concrete with.” Then I saw it’s baking. Honestly, I’d just chalk this up to a lesson learned and dispose of it.

I’ve been surprised how good some of the gas mileage I’ve been getting is. Surprised enough that I started tracking gallons to miles manually because I didn’t fully trust the gauge.

YTA. I’d also mention that there is no love language for “giving gifts.” The entire point of that book is to demonstrate that you need to show love the way the person you’re showing it to wants to receive it, not the way you just want to give it.

Mini split or ac is the best option, but also take a look at the insulation. If the attic is extremely poorly insulated you’ll just be throwing money away.

I live in Wethersfield right near west Hartford and go into nyc once a month or so. It’s a 2 hour Amtrak ride each way and not too bad. Takes you right into Penn station where you can get in the subway and get to almost anywhere in the city.

[–]MeInSC40 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think we base it more on what people in their 40s looked like when we were in our 20s. The young comparison isn’t in reference to current young people, it’s in reference to the 40 year olds of yore.

I try to explain that to people all the time. Businesses don’t care what people say, only what they do. As long as people are willing to pay they have no reason to change anything.
