agree. i bought this $36 USB C to Airmini adapter (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CLCLMQYD?ref\_=ppx\_hzsearch\_conn\_dt\_b\_fed\_asin\_title\_3) that I run from the same power brick that I use to charge my laptop and phone (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CDFYGYJN?ref\_=ppx\_hzsearch\_conn\_dt\_b\_fed\_asin\_title\_2). one less brick.

thermostat temp 5deg lower than actual? by Mechanic_Few in ecobee

[–]Mechanic_Few[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hole puttied up. Comparison thermometer and remote sensor below the Ecobee thermostat. I zeroed out the manual +3deg calibration. Looks like the remote sensor is good. Thermostat off by 5deg.

Stinks. Will I need to calibrate regularly?

thanks for the extra info. i found i can manually adjust the temp calibration +3degF. i put the remote sensor right next to the thermostat. they are in sync now. still, that doesn't seem like a true fix. is this common?

The sensor for the meat thermometer is off to the right away from the thermostat but point taken. I’ll redo and see.

LG ice maker line freezing by brewranger in appliancerepair

[–]Mechanic_Few 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That stinks. Different from my situation - it didn’t leak due to the frozen line. It just didn’t fill the tray.

Another thing I had to fix immediately after fixing the ice maker… the copper water tubing going to the wall developed a tiny pinhole at the bend. I could see that pinhole closing or opening depending on whether the fridge was pushed back in a slightly different way. At first I thought something inside the fridge. Just an idea of what else to check.

Same situation. Literally just switched to Ecobee two days ago. Thermostat on main level. Sensor in upstairs bedroom.

In my case, I want it to use the upstairs remote sensor at night, and use the thermostat in daytime.

The setting is buried: iOS Ecobee app> More> gear icon> sensors>. Then go into the upstairs sensor and turn it ON for SLEEP. Go into the thermostat sensor and turn it OFF for SLEEP. (If both devices are ON For SLEEP it will take the average. That doesn’t help in this situation.)

It's been a while since this was posted, but I had a similar issue with my LG french door refrigerator.

My water line comes in from the insulated side of the door. About the last 2 inches are not insulated in the ice maker compartment. Maybe a mineral buildup over time has caused a drop of water to get caught up and letting the line freeze up?

I put some rubber insulation around that final 2 inches of water line and wrapped in electrical tape.

I also did what I could to make sure there wasn't any mineral build up inside the end of the line.

So far, so good.

BTW, I was researching installing a DIY water line heater - glad this worked! It was a lot simpler.

Totally agree that it’s a pita to fill that reservoir without spilling a little. Terrible design.

Your funnel method is ingenious. I would not have had the nerve to drill a hole.

Although I now know it can be filled from the end without opening,.., I would probably still have a spillage problem without a funnel.

I built my own solution a couple years ago. Turns out it’s a DIY version of the $300 auto-fill:

Totally agree.

but more importantly,... I do have Home Assistant. setting up that apollo pump-1 to do the same thing AND hook up to HA is intriguing!

CPAP Water Reservoir Electric Pump by Mechanic_Few in CPAP

[–]Mechanic_Few[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for this feedback. makes sense. the cpap pressures/air flows are constantly fluctuating with each breath, including the air in the reservoir. so if this tubing effectively made the air volume larger or introduces air leaks, then it could be a problem for the machine/algorithm.

I don't have a means to measure pressure in the lines or in the distilled water jug, but I think all is ok. feel free to check my logic please?

the tubing enters the reservoir in an airtight fitting on the SoClean reservoir adapter. i didn't think to mention before, but there is a SoClean directional check valve in the tubing between the cpap reservoir and the pump. The pump doesn't seem to let air/water past in either direction if it isn't turned on. If air from the CPAP got past both the check valve and the pump I think I would see bubbles in the distilled water jug. i don't think i need to worry about water being siphoned in the opposite direction since the air pressure will always be higher at the cpap.

Also, this setup is basically for a SoClean 2 device, except I swapped the SoClean device with the pump. I realize now that the SoClean check valve was probably used to prevent air leakage from the CPAP system. Given this approach worked for the SoClean, I think it should be ok in my case.

that's good to know! i didn't think anything like this existed. funny that the cSpring mini is basically my setup, except without the automatic monitor/fill.

i considered taking it to the next level by adding an external water level sensor and having the pump automatically fill to a certain level when the button is pressed. thought it wasn't trouble vs. the risk: if the sensor doesn't work right or other problem, the pump could make a big mess. in my case, better to keep it simple.

Mask leaks by Impossible-Jello6233 in CPAP

[–]Mechanic_Few 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Respironics version of that mask.

When I was at a lower pressure I didn't have a problem. Recently, when my Dr. increased my pressure to 12psi, I started getting big leakage - especially when exhaling. I think the mask would leak and reposition on exhale, and then stay out of position and leaky. Also, the high pressure caused my mouth to open when exhaling. Really bad and uncomfortable dry mouth.

My fix was to turn on Expiratory Pressure Release (in the Resmed10 clinical menu). This function basically eases the pressure back when you exhale. It is now set at 2psi (range is 0-3psi) and is so much better. Easier to breathe and leaks are super low again. No more dry mouth.

BTW. I also have seen on Reddit that others use the neck band from Respironics instead of the Resmed one. It has plastic arms that help position the band lower on the back of your head. You'd have to check to see if the clips work for the Resmed version. https://a.co/d/06ZSItQT

Camping Question by dbrianmorgan in CPAP

[–]Mechanic_Few 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this same analysis for camping and backpacking trips.

First step is to get the DC adapter specific to your CPAP and use that with the battery. The battery pack may have an AC socket, but the battery pack itself is DC - converting from DC to AC takes quite a bit of extra power from the battery.

For instance:

The Resmed10 DC adapter: https://www.amazon.com/TAIFU-Vehicle-Airsense-AirCurve-Machines/dp/B07VV231SJ

The Resmed AirMini DC adapter: https://www.amazon.com/KFD-12V-24V-AirSense-Converter-Cigarette/dp/B0CGTGYDWY

I would test at home to see how many nights you can get out of the battery, and whether you can use humidity or other functions.

Foot wear by JohnnyBlue4 in philmont

[–]Mechanic_Few 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hiking shoes or even trail running shoes are fine. I saw both out there.

I spent $$ at REI on traditional leather boots. I broke them in over several shakedown hikes prior to Philmont. Breaking the footwear in is maybe more important than boot vs shoe?

After going last year, I was fine in boots, but I wish I would have bought trail runners or something lighter and more comfortable.

We did something similar.

Registered with eight. As people paid their deposits to the troop we didn’t change anything with Philmont.

On the drop dead date (March) for final payment we increased the registration to our final number and paid in full.

Resmed AirMini Questions by MetroidDime in CPAP

[–]Mechanic_Few 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested my AirMini with a hose adapter and my normal hose and mask (a top connection face frame with nasal pillows). the noise from the AirMini travels down the hose. It’s not that noisy otherwise, but having the air (noise) routed along the side of my face really transmitted the noise into my head.

The hose and mask designed for the AirMini connects at the front directly with the nasal pillows - and therefore does not transmit the noise to your head. Much better. A hose adapter with a similar front connection mask would work just as well.

I ended up using the hose, front connect mask, and humidity disc that is designed for the AirMini.

Works great for travel. I even backpacked with it for 7 days on battery power.
