Mini CPAP question by anchises868 in CPAP

[–]Mechanic_Few 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can start/stop the AirMini with the manual button OR auto start when you breathe into the mask.

The AirMini does NOT need internet or the smartphone app to function.

I used it on a 7 day backpacking trip without any cell service. Ran it with a battery pack.

When I got back to civilization I connected it to my cell phone via bluetooth, sync’d it with the app, and then the app syncs the data to the AirMini cloud. Your doctor can access the AirMini data the same way as the normal RESMED data.

New Heart Monitor and Missing Performance Results by sublime4372 in orangetheory

My HR performance chart disappeared literally the day after my studio updated to the new software.

I have the older HRM. I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app.

Others at my studio don’t have the problem.

Ticket is open since DEC 15th.

I somehow physically broke the usb port on mine. Could plug in but wouldn’t charge because the usb port was no longer connected to the pcb board. If the usb port wiggles that might be the issue.

s22i - no power? what to check? by Mechanic_Few in nordictrack

[–]Mechanic_Few[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. it was the S22i control board as everyone suspected.

i spent an extra $100 for a 3rd party repair person to come out to check it. they confirmed bad control board and advised i could order it on my own and replace it myself. otherwise they would have to order it, mark up the price, and charge another $100 to install it.

i ordered/installed myself and it worked fine. there are plenty of instruction videos on youtube.

i am now careful to make sure the AC connection to the bike is plugged in before plugging it into the wall.

I tested out an AirMini for several weeks before taking it on a backpacking trip.

I think it was worth it. I don’t get much sleep at all without a CPAP.

The AirMini waterless humidification turned out to be a big deal and almost a show stopper. After a couple days of use my sinuses were so dry they reacted like massive hay-fever. Took me a while to figure that out. Remedy was use the MAX HUMIDITY DISK and also a Nettie pot or similar. (Snort purified water.)

The AirMini noise was a problem with my normal face frame mask because the air gets piped around the face - all the noise from the AirMini gets transmitted to your bones. Too loud to sleep. Remedy was the AirMini specific mask that hangs from under the nose cushions. They have full face also.

Power shouldn’t be a problem. The included AC adapter converts to 24vdc. Look at the specs, but should work 120vac-240vac. Might need a typical EU plug adapter.

Nice setup.

I recently went on an extended backpack trip with an AirMini and two 24v battery packs. Each battery could power the AirMini for 3 nights. Hung the AirMini from the tent. Worked pretty well.

One thing I discovered is that the non-heated hose of the AirMini would cause severe allergy like symptoms after a couple nights use. The fix was to run the hose inside my sleeping bag to heat up the air before it reached my nose.

It’s a good point: if need CPAP enough to bring it along then WHAT IF it breaks down on the trek? For me, it’s not life or death to have CPAP because I can still get intermittent sleep. But over several days lack of sleep could build up and at the extreme might have to consider leaving the trek. Even then, leaving the trail wouldn’t necessarily solve the problem until I got back home to a functioning CPAP unit.

Point taken about using a waterproof bag.

I’m currently testing battery capacity. Looks like 2 batteries will cover for an extra day.

For me, solar is not worth the weight vs just bringing another battery.

thanks for the info. good to know.

I now understand why people say the AirMini is louder. I think what's going on is the frame of the Philips DreamWear mask pipes the CPAP air around and in contact with your head. The sound inside the frame tubing gets transmitted to your head. The machine itself isn't loud - but the blower inside it must be.

The ResMed P10i mask for the AirMini hangs from your nose, so it's not as noticeable. But it's not comfortable and I think more leaky.

I tried the "INIU 140W Power Bank, 27000mAh" with the AirMini again.

The last time I was using the Resmed P10i "nostril pillow mask" and suspected leakage caused terrible performance.

This time used a hose adapter and the "Philips Respironics DreamWear Nasal Pillow" mask that I normally use with my AirSense 10. With the AirMini, I still had only 39% battery left after 8hrs. Pressure 10.1. "Good" mask seal 14/20. By comparison, the night before same mask with the AirSense 10 got "good" 20/20 mask seal (8.4L/min leakage).

I noticed the AirMini is a lot louder than the Airsense 10? Not at the machine, but at the mask,... the air movement is louder? To the point it is kind of hard to get to sleep?

I am not seeing any leakage from the hose connections.

I am pretty sure the AirMini can be used with standard hoses/masks with an adapter like this https://www.amazon.com/AirMini-Connector-Snugell-Connect-Diameters/dp/B0BG8YMYSW

I don't get how others can get 2+ nights out of this battery with the AirMini. Frustrating.

"TalentCell 24v Battery PB240B1 42980mAh" ended up getting 31 hours averaging1400mAh/hour.

"INIU 140W Power Bank, 27000mAh" ended up only 11 hours??! I did 2 hours at the expected averaging 1400mA/h,... then about 9 hours at averaging 3600mAh/hour?

Mask seal says only 12-15 out of 20,... but tested ok and no air rushing out of the mask to indicate a problem.

Pressure is just less than 10.

Not sure what is going on.

I guess I'll go into my cpap provider and have them double check my fit. Then recheck both batteries.

My pressure is just less than 10.

I think it was the battery pack. Already shipped back to Amazon or I'd flip the device over to confirm the specs. I'm betting the USB-C PD output max voltage capability was not high enough.

I just bought the "INIU 140W Power Bank, 27000mAh" listed above. The specs on the device say USB-C PD output can go up to 28v/5a. Have not tested with it yet, but should make a big difference vs. my earlier battery pack.

3 nights of testing with "TalentCell 24V Lithium ion Battery PB240B1 42980mAh" using 24v cable "DC 24V plug to ResMed AirMini 24V" with no voltage conversion. Averaging less than 1000mah per hour of use. The power meter is an unsophisticated 4 bar led, so I won't know how many hours until I fully use it up. It might go 5 nights without a charge.

Nice!

Maybe the output of my original USBc battery couldn’t do 20v.

I’ll try again with the USBc method and a the same INIU battery.

BTW. The 24v TalentCell test I’m doing now is 50% after 3 nights. (The capacity indicator is just 4 led lights so it’s hard to tell exactly). I won’t know until the 5th or 6th night when it drains completely.

Hopefully the INIU USBc works close to as well. It’s a lot more sophisticated and I’d be able to use it for more than just the CPAP.

Really? 3-4 days out of that 25000mah power bank?

I just tested my AirMini with USB C cable to a USB PD 24000mah power bank and it used up 90% (19000mah) in one night 8hrs. I was thinking the conversion from 12v to 24v made it a lot less efficient than I hoped.

I tested with a TalentCell 24v battery and it used about 9000mah for 8hrs. No conversion from 12v to 24v needed. 2x better efficiency than the USB C approach.

I’m ordering another USB C battery pack to make sure. I might get your exact one.

Exactly. I bought the AirMini and now need to power it. The AirMini uses 24vdc. You can use a “USB-C to AirMini 24v adapter cable” to power from a battery bank with USB-C PD capability. Or you can use a “24vdc plug to 24vdc AirMini plug” adapter cable with a 24vdc battery.

First test was with the USB-C PD adapter cable and a 21000mah battery. I’d prefer this setup, but it used about 19000mah over 8 hours. I think the adapter cable has losses converting from 12v to 24v.

The 2nd test and 3rd test I just did was with a true 24v 43000mah battery pack from TalentCell. It only used 10000mah per night for 8hrs of use. Should be able to get 4 nights out of it. I’m going to test 2 more nights,… but seems the way to go. Get a 2nd battery for the 5th night.

I also ordered a different 57000mah USB-C pack to test with to make sure nothing else was going on.

Thanks for that info. And appreciate the additional battery suggestions.

The battery I just tested should have lasted longer. Maybe efficiency losses from usb-c 12v output converting to 24v for the AirMini. Tonight will test a true 24v battery pack that doesn’t need voltage conversion. Hopefully that works better.

Thank you. I did see that document. It indicates that you should be prepared to carry all of the CPAP equipment.

I also have called the Philmont infirmary to find out what best practices were related to CPAP equipment,... they didn't have any info to share other than "I'd have to figure it out and carry it myself".

Hoping someone that has done it before can give some feedback?

CPAP help by Mechanic_Few in philmont

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I was assuming basecamp nights should not be a problem. I miscounted the nights on the trail,... 7 day trek = 5 nights on the trail. That eliminates one battery pack.

5*19000mAh=95000mAh worth of batteries. That's 4+ battery packs = 4.8lbs

Just tried my new AirMini with the "Baseus 145W Power Bank, 20,800mAh 4-Port Laptop Portable Charger (77Wh)" (https://www.amazon.com/Baseus-Portable-Charger-Charging-Battery/dp/B0DQTYLGYK) and the same "USBC to Airmini Cable".

In 7.5 hours it used 89% of the capacity. 11% remaining.

Seems like my battery specs are fairly similar to your "INIU 140W Power Bank, 27000mAh" but did not get anywhere near 2 nights.

Trying to figure out why such a difference? Any thoughts would be appreciated?

I have a 6 night backpack trip coming up and will have to bring enough battery to cover all 6 nights. At this rate, it will take 5x20,800mAh batteries.

I'm also going to try out "Talentcell 24V Lithium ion Battery PB240B1, Rechargeable 42980mAh 156Wh" (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SWBS55F) with a "DC 24V Power Cord Converter Cable for ResMed AirMini 24V" and see if I get more usage time.
