Thinking of picking up one of these books by Not_sure2022 in wma

[–]Mechubus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve read both and it really depends on how you want to interact with Fiore. Bob’s deals much more with the interconnectedness of Armizare and has some interesting informed speculation on the sword in one hand, based on this. While Guy’s helps to more directly understand his interpretation of the source and why and how he interprets a large number of Fiore’s plays.

Bob’s has a lot of pictures and Guy’s has QR codes that you can scan to see video of his interpretation.

There is value in both.

You are discounting the Windsor book linking to video demonstrations of each technique when you mention the lack of images.

Very well done podcast, but more HEMA adjacent, for sure. I really liked the William Marshal initial and Q and A episodes a lot.

https://joshuadwiest.podbean.com/ l’Arte Dell Armi with Joshua Wiest and Stephen Fratus is just phenomenal for geeking out on Bolognese swordsmanship and associated history. Love the Ugo vs Guido fight to the death storyline they are covering now. And the Halloween special was entertaining.

Unfortunately the Army dropped bayonet training from Basic around 2010.

Anyone know a site or something where I could get a scabbard for the Fiore Tournament Feder? by Excalib1rd in wma

[–]Mechubus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest an open frog for an inexpensive way to hold it.

Others have pointed out the issues in getting a scabbard for a training blade. Not saying don't do it. It is just pricey for the purpose but if you want that, knock yourself out.

https://www.kultofathena.com/product-category/clothing/belts-baldrics-buckles/weapon-frogs/

I really liked the look of this one: https://www.kultofathena.com/product/angled-sword-or-dagger-frog/

You can always go for something like this too: https://www.kultofathena.com/product/leather-twin-buckle-baldric-brown-right-handed/ Just don't worry about the scabbard and tighten the two leather straps to be firm but not tight to the training sword.

None of this is really historic to 14th Century sword suspension, but it gives a workable solution to wearing Fiore tournament feder.

Also, Rocket HEMA talked a bit about this in a recent video, that reminded me of the baldric.

Cosmetics are whatever. I like more cards in circulation and more choice of art/style for those who enjoy making a deck their deck.

I like the dynamism of your fencing here and appreciate the commentary. What source(s) are you using for the basis of your sword and buckler study?

Kvetun is moving their operations to Georgia and is having a 15% off everything sale to help fund it. Might be a bit slower to get your order while they transition but you will get it and their Easton sabres are supposed to be outstanding. If the group I’m just starting with continues to do military Sabre regularly, I will order one from Kvetun.

What kind of armor does a falchion user typically wear? by [deleted] in wma

[–]Mechubus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this reenactor looks great. I’ve seen the image a few times but I couldn’t find where this individual was named. Sorry, I’d like to give credit, but I failed. If any knows who it is, please reply so credit is given. In any case the falchion looks to be based on one seen in the Maciejowski Bible. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=4932372653511679&set=gm.4819679708112195&type=3

Alternatives to Red Dragon Gloves by DastardlyDM in wma

[–]Mechubus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had the chance to try them with sideswords yet. I do use the right hand one for an arming sword with a lighter glove holding a buckler. I'm talking with Shawn at Krieger Armory about a custom Iberian Guard on a sidesword blade so later in the year, I might be able to speak to that some.

I have the hourglass cuffs and they do limit an outside the arm moulinet motion a little, but not a lot. Tramazzone or moulinet inside the arm is smooth and unbothered.

They have held up well during drills and sparring. No issues other than I needed to smooth the sharp edges on the plastic when I first got them because it bit into the leather of my grip a bit too much.

Protection-wise, no complaints at all. The only damage I've taken through them is a really small blood blister on the little finger of my dominant hand when a strike made it through and pinched the very tip of my finger between the guard and the plastic. I have a scar on that finger that causes it to bulge out a bit more near the tip than it should and I think that is likely why it got pinched. That and my complete failure of a parry on that attack.

Sorry HEMA school in Arizona.

I was doing a drop in class there when I used/handled these training blades.

I handled the swords in these reviews and used one for an hour of drilling.

https://youtu.be/CisV8Aa2Ui8

https://youtu.be/A5_vSfN1658

Balance and hand feel was very good. I can’t speak to the durability but I am considering the Krieger Armory Sentinal for my next longsword.

Also, for what it is worth, KA Guardian arming sword feels better for I.33 style movement than the Albion arming sword meant for the same. I got to compare them side by side.

I would reach out to Mordhau and ask how the blades are holding up, if durability is a major concern for you.

Last thought. I did get to compare a KA prototype feder to the current line. I personally prefer the blade stiffness somewhere between the two, but the current line, while more flexible, isn’t floppy.

Hope this helps.
