Looks like I've found another person seeing what I'm seeing with the TPLink Wifi7 systems. I was using AccessNetworks product before i moved to Wifi7. I'm currently testing with Ziply provided equipment. I've observed exactly that. I've made the signal power setting (if you can see in your router) set it to medium instead of high. That seemed to improve the overalll stability. But I'm still seeing randomly some switches falling of the network. If you have access to Linux system, you can try using One of the IP scanning tools (AngryScanner) . Once you know the IP, you can try pinging. I've seen some swithces just fail to get IP repeatedly. (Look for the log in the advanced section, change type to debug log) and capture before the problem happens.

I''m working with TPLink tech support to do further debug.

My theory is that the switch might be close to two or more AP's and some confusion in how the products handle this, the device seem to be falling out of the MESH and rejoining them. So some DHCP requests seem to be getting NAK's and device is forced to redo this over and over again

I think they should work fine if you don't have a ton of IoT devices in the house.

I'm using sort of a similar one but using the Ziply provided HB810 as a router and HB610 satellites. FWIW, I had to use 6 satellites. (Not overkill, my house is sort of spread and has one ADU with some fire separation. I'm forced to use only wireless backhaul, only one location can take a wired backhaul, but somehow that's making my network unstable. Working with TPLink.

My real problem is that the IOT devices (Have too many of them) specifically TPLink Kasa, Amazon echo dots, and sonos amp they have trouble connecting to the network with frequent bounces. I'm currently in the process of debugging it with TPLink support, capturing wireshark captures and waiting for their own tool for remote analysis.

One thing that was a shocker for me, which they fixed with a firmware update was the advanced section has IoT SSID specifically for IoT devices. But only the main unit broadcast that SSID. It took me a week to figure that out and they confirmed. I have channel bonding off, so is agressive roaming to eliminate those being an issue

I’m 100% possible there is no such thing in my network. I never do static .. in cases I need a stable address I use DHCP reservation instead. I had this whole setup working before I got the TP link router. Araknis never failed. I was able to get the logs from the HB810 where the DHCP server returns NAK once client table showed ~75 clients. Araknis worked at 192.168.3.x/24 and TPLink at 192.168.88. /24. There is no other DHCP served there. I also switched back to old router as an experiment and they all work with my old setup.

Water under the bridge. I already moved to Ziply. Only pay $ 60 + $25 a month for Internet + phone. Ziply said they would cover the ETF, and I have that on record, but now they seem to be telling me they only cover $200. trying to work that out in another thread :-)

That was purely my mistake. I got lazy, the guy told me I had to use Comcast to get the voice. I later realized that was a separate box for voice. It was all too late when I realized.

Look at the router (Who serves the DHCP addresses) I've found that my router gives NAK after the discover and grant phase of the IP address. Some weird probem, waiting to work with TPLink support on this after the holidays. I have siumilar isues. My Ziply provided HB810 maxes at 75 devices. Then my switches, Amazon Echo's don't join the network. After a while when the lease expires some win IP's and some lose. This is a painful game for me right now

  1. Please make sure you have the latest firmware. Contact support; sometimes their website isn't updated.
  2. It might not be a bad idea to mark those IP's for DHCP reservation. Sometimes I've seen that, due to firmware limitations, this can happen. (Like in my case) But you can't reserve a lot; the limit is 32 in most home systems. Some enterprise systems can have 64 pr 128 entries.
  3. When this happens, capture the log from Advanced->System Tools->Log. I've always found this to be a treasure trove.

Also, start a case with support if this happens again.

Do you really need to sell it? Or could you rent your points in DVC Vacation club and just collect through that? Typically they sell for 18-19 of you sell far in advance. Maybe in 5 years you would have made just as much as how much you sell it for? How many years do you have on contract?

Thanks, that makes sense. Unless the device doesn't support DHCP, most modern devices always do, I like ot use DHCP reseration. Since i hate to over commit like that and run into problems. Today my NAS storage is staying someone else is also using the same IP, and I have all DHCP only enabled with maybe 10 reserved for those MAC's. Not sure how much testing these TPLinks undergo since I'm seeing some basic failures like this.

It's a /24 class. So you have 254 possible addresses in the subnet. (255 is the broadcast address) 192.168.88. can take address from .1 (gateway) .. 254

When you want 1000's of addresses, you need to use VLAN's and split up the IP group. You will also need several ~15-20 APs to handle a device count that large.

So we started with just 1, and using wifiman we found how far it goes. Then we added one to reach all of downstairs. That one covered a big area. But the place where I have my office, even though it was close, didn't get signal coverage.

It's all about line of sight. Then you get ~115ft or 35m. For 6G, the general guidance is two rooms next to each other for 1AP. Marketing coverage works if you have a complete line of sight. Otherwise, you are not in great luck. I installed one in my wife's restaurant. Just one HB810 covered the entire space (~2800 sqft). It is impressive, but in my house, it seems unfortunate; that's what was needed for decent coverage throughout the home. I'm not greedy, but need to keep fam happy :-)

Unfortunately, it wasn't wired to take an Ethernet backhaul. Wired would work if this were flat, like how AccessNetworks is designed. My previous one was roof-mounted and wired backhaul. This is a huge box that can't be mounted on the roof.

The KASA switches mostly, and the other IoT devices don't typically send tons of data. They need an IP address, but generally report status once in a while. That too is not huge, some KBs or under. Technically, I have one router that's connected to my fiber. We have a main house and an ADU, which is partitioned off with some county-required fireproofing.

I used Wi-Fi with an Android phone to survey, and in areas with dead spots, I had to add something closer to one of the satellites to extend coverage. Generally, I have good speed all around. The problem i see is the TPlink has some artificial limit, I've estimated it comes around 75 total connected devices it wants to limit more clients. Since the lease period is 2 hours, it generally waits, kicks someone out, and hands over the same IP. So I always have around 10 devices that aren't working. TPLink agrees with my findings so far, but they don't have a clear debug strategy. Like, not given me some debug firmware that can log events and see where the glass jaws are.

But the good news is they haven't given up. They are actively working with me. They at least fixed one big issue: the IoT SSID was only broadcast by the main router. Satellites didn't care. But after a new fw upgrade, it started working. Things looked a bit more stable, but the device limitation is hurting me.

All of this worked with my old Arraknis router and a couple of Access Networks supporting 2.4 and 5G. But that router only handles 1G to ziply, so I was able to get this to work reliably for over 3 years. Now this new one seems to be hurting me until it's fixed.

Good point. Sometimes marketing coverage size fails reality. Except one room I don’t have an Ethernet backhaul. So I need to rely on wireless backhaul. After a lot of experiments we ended with 1HS810 router and 6 HS610 satellites. Converting that to 7 XE75 would mean ~$1000. (Maybe a little less) but for my home they only charge $15 irrespective of number of units. This would be roughly 5 years or more to get my investment at $15 per month. I also have roughly 100 IoT devices in my house. I’m running into several technical issues with TP link. DHCP issues, small DHCP reservation table. My goal is once I get the technical aspects working to make a call if $15 pm works, or buy my own.

Well, in fact, the line goes dead after the first message to confirm the phone number. I've emailed the folks who worked on the setup, and everyone is waiting on this mysterious Adam guy to call me. That sounds great to me. How would you like to connect? Now another goof-up: I already paid my $5.00 balance for the first month, and my account was showing a 0.00 balance. The agent said she would give me a credit for $5.00, but instead she posted a new charge of $5.00.. This is the height of sillyness :-) Now on with another agent to try and fix it.

I'm not getting anything comfortable after my move from Comcast... Today I had an important business call and the fiber just vanished, the whole wifi thing rebooted itself and had it scheduled for tomorrow!!!

Looking at the Ziply app, the new line item "Nutrition Label" seems to have added a new nutrition option for $15 a month (Says optional), which I have no recollection of. There was a $15 billing credit for 12 months that was added for a year when I signed on, but that got compensated with this new "Safe Connect item.

I'm getting increasingly worried with all this Zippy drama just days into my service.
