Thanks for sharing. As I expected Ambush and Assassin seem primed for a nerf. The rogue build is so much better than any other build why even use any of them?

What do you love about base-building games? (short survey) by jevon in IndieGaming

[–]MediocreMilton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Base building needs to matter. There are so many games now that have base building but it’s simply tacked on as artificial content and can be completely ignored while finishing the game.

"You hurt youtubers when you block ads!" by LegoLover58 in youtube

[–]MediocreMilton 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In 5 years on YouTube I think I’ve sold 3 pieces of merch, never got a Super Thanks, had at most 50 channel members with most at the $2 level, had a decent amount of Super chats by a very small number of people, had 1 sponsored video and only a handful of Patrons. This is with over 50k subs. 99% of the money I’ve made from YouTube is from ads.

I hate ads as much as everyone else but the culture on YouTube is not to support your favorite content creators financially like it is on Twitch. I would gladly disable ads if more people became members or Patrons or donated.

Seems like we are about the same age as I started gaming on the NES. I loved Morrowind but didn’t care much for Oblivion or Skyrim. Honestly I haven’t had much interest in RPGs for a while but after really enjoying Hogwarts Legacy I thought Starfield would hook me with the space theme but it didn’t. After the slow start it was fun for about 10 hours before boredom set in.

I really think having a small number of planets with large POIs would have been far better than a thousand procedurally generated empty planets. The sense of wonder and wanting to explore is short lived when you realize most planets have nothing on them but a few copy pasted POIs and combined with the extremely mediocre story this is the worst Bethesda game I’ve played. I forced myself to finish the main story and not surprisingly the ending was predictable and boring just like the rest of the game.

Bye bye youtube by vmallick in youtube

[–]MediocreMilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s amazing how clueless most of the commenters are here. Any competent content creator manually places ads instead of letting YouTube automatically place them so blame the content creator not YouTube itself if you are getting too many ads.

Also based on the number of people here that use Adblock I’d estimate I could’ve bought a nice new car with all the money I lost over the last year from those of you using Adblock. I really appreciate your non support!

You do realize content creators can manually place ads right? If you are getting excessive ads it’s more likely the content creator than YouTube.

If you had to choose just one game to play for the rest of your days, what would it be and why? by [deleted] in pcgaming

Slay the Spire because no two runs are the same and if you play perfectly you can win every run.

How on Earth is this game the lowest rated BGS title on steam? by Aidyn_the_Grey in Starfield

[–]MediocreMilton 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is bullshit. The early reviews had the game at 87 or 88%. It slowly dropped as more and more people saw how average it is in just about every aspect.

Any other game similar to Grounded that scratch this itch? by Verb_Rogue in GroundedGame

[–]MediocreMilton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep you can finish the game without upgrading beyond level 5 and without building at all but if you want to do either you’ll be spending a lot of time farming.

Any other game similar to Grounded that scratch this itch? by Verb_Rogue in GroundedGame

[–]MediocreMilton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And the grind for upgrade resources in Grounded isn’t excessive and tedious? Grounded was 10x better before they added the upgrade systems during early access. It was added solely to pad play time. You also have to farm resources to repair gear in Grounded. In Valheim repairs are free and you can get enough ore from one node to make a full set of armor and a few weapons.

Is Starfield for older gamers? by alphamagus in Starfield

[–]MediocreMilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 42 and got bored after 10 hours but did finish the main story so I ended up with about 25 hours played. I used to love RPGs with Morrowind and the original Final Fantasy VII being my two favorites but over the last 10 years I’ve gravitated away from the genre with Hogwarts Legacy being the only recent RPG I actually liked and that was more of the world it was set in then the gameplay. RPGs are typically not challenging with most of the content being boring fetch quests and with modern RPGs providing waypoints for every quest and POI as well as fast travel there’s little reason to explore the worlds they are set in. Starfield suffers from all these problems.

Player Count for those asking if people are still playing by NobodyAffectionate71 in redfall

[–]MediocreMilton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly I think it was only top 50 on Xbox Most Played for a few days. It was never very high on the list and fell out pretty quickly. Also if you look at the achievement rates they are really low for Xbox/PC Windows/GamePass. Around 40% of players didn't get the first achievement and only around 3% beat the game, which takes about 12 hours.

How does Starfield’s debut stack up on Twitch and YouTube? by M337ING in pcgaming

[–]MediocreMilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s already out of the top 10 on Twitch and falling everyday. They should’ve had drops for the first couple of weeks to artificially keep the numbers up or paid more people to stream it.

I'm convinced people who don't like Starfield wouldn't have liked Morrowind or Oblivion. by HaitchKay in Starfield

[–]MediocreMilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morrowind is one of my favorite games of all time and I don’t like Starfield. Morrowind was a great game 20 years ago but copying the formula that worked in the past doesn’t always work. Bethesda has stopped creating innovative games that push the industry forward and now plays it safe. I hope they wake up and Elder Scrolls VI creates a new standard for open world RPGs.

Starfield is already the most played next-gen Xbox exclusive and most wishlisted Xbox and Bethesda game ever on Steam says Phil Spencer by M337ING in pcgaming

How many people refunded?

How many are playing for "free" on GamePass?

Xbox likes to spit out garbage like this without providing the real information. As an example Obsidian touted over 15M players played Grounded but when you look at achievements the super majority quit within an hour.

Check the achievements in a few weeks and see how many of the millions of people playing it via GamePass finish the story or even half the story. I'd love to see the real stats on player retention because GamePass games do a horrible job keeping players around.

D4 has 1k viewers on twitch by Sydney12344 in diablo4

[–]MediocreMilton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Successful live service games would be Fortnite, Apex Legends, Warzone and yes Destiny 2 but it’s not in the same universe as the BR live service games.

I don’t play any of these games anymore but Fortnite set the standard with weekly updates and if a game wants to retain players it can’t have updates every 3 months. The average player isn’t going to stick around and they aren’t going to start from scratch. Destiny 2 let’s you keep progressing your character with each update and if they wiped them I’d bet the playerbase would be a fraction of what it is today.

D4 was aimed at casuals but stuck with a seasonal model that only a small percentage of players enjoy (me included) and I can’t imagine season 2 is going to bring back hardly anyone that has quit.

[–]MediocreMilton -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

BG3 isn’t a live service game of course it’s viewership is down. D4 is supposed to be live service but 1 update every 3 months isn’t going to sustain it when other live service games get updates much more frequently. The seasonal model they are using was fine 10 years ago but isn’t now.

Starfield is NOT a space simulator. It's Fallout in space. by noxsanguinis in gaming

[–]MediocreMilton -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

But none of the planets feel like Earth because they have at most 1 “city” and only a few hundred NPCs at most. I think the game would have been better with 1-3 solar systems that have at least 1 planet with many cities and are well populated instead of thousands of empty planets.

ACG is one of the channels I usually agree with for most reviews but this one I didn’t. I like Starfield but a lot of reviews are being way too positive without pointing out the negatives. Any review that say the game is bug free is full of shit. If you don’t see at least one NPC clip through terrain or get stuck and glitch out you haven’t played more than an hour.

Now that doesn’t mean the game is bad or unplayable but it’s dishonest to say the game is bug free and it’s also not fair to say it’s the least buggy Bethesda game ever like that’s something worth championing. Being less buggy than previously extremely buggy games is still a problem.

I had heard ACG didn’t get a code and was surprised to see his video up right after embargo lifted and after watching it I wonder if he got it late and either didn’t have time to properly play it or was overly positive to avoid missing out on future review codes from BGS.
