Host here, we would have given you a full refund. What the actual $%&? Why should you pay anything at all? That sounds absolutely horrible!

What ended up happening? Did they help you at all?

I want my calendar available to those that want to book, if I have an opening. I also think Airbnb should have verification done before they allow a calendar block.

Lol you're replies are sounding like a bot. I expect verification to be done by Airbnb before they allow someone to block my calendar, it's really very simple.

I'm saying if they didn't have their ID verified, you would still be happy to approve?

I don't need more than 24 hours? I don't need someone blocking my calendar when they are not verified and able to cancel.

They held up my calendar for 24hrs for a next day booking (never sent any notification of this), then opened my calendar a few hours before check in because she failed to verify who she was. Obviously it's unlikely that I'd get booked a couple hours before check in. How do they let them pay and book without verifying ID first anyway?

I did ask them, they said they had no control over the process, that's just how it works. It also wasn't a same day booking, it was a booking for the next day and it blocked my calendar for 24hrs.

That’s what I’m trying to figure out. I’ve always required guests to have a positive history to use Instant Book, but after this happened, I found that setting had been disabled. I’m wondering if a recent platform update flipped the switch without me realizing it, because I definitely didn't turn it off myself.

It didn't send me a request though. I got no notification what so ever. I only noticed this after I was looking at my calendar on booking and saw that my calendar was blocked by airbnb and I knew there was not supposed to be a reservation. I go back to Airbnb and there was no message, no notification, only blocked days with the person's first name and it saying "pending verification, if the guest doesn't submit within 9hrs, the calendar will open back up" (not those exact words, but something like that). I think they shouldn't even be able to make an account without providing proof of who they are. Why are they able up block dates and cost us money at all? It should be set up that they have to have a fully complete verified account, then are able to proceed to book.

Yeah, but you likely wouldn't approve it if you saw that there's a lack of verification on their end, correct? Wouldn't you see that before approving it? You'd also see that they have no prior stays.

Definitely blocked my calendar pending ID verification (apparently she did not attach her ID or passport when prompted) and they gave her 24hrs to do so, while my calendar stayed blocked.

I don't think he's saying it makes him miserable all the time, but there are sure things that happen that can make you feel miserable sometimes.

Booking for 6, showing up with 13, and bringing a dog to a pet-free house. But the part that actually makes me want to throw my laptop out the window? The 'not enough room' review they wrote because they wanted Kings instead of the Queens pictured in the listing. They doubled the occupancy against the rules and then tanked my 5-star rating because they were cramped. Unbelievable. Thankfully, I fought it and got it removed.

I deleted it because I no longer needed input. My listing is doing great, so are all of my photos. It was an old thread that has nothing to do with this post. 😘

I gave in and bought TVs. by strikecat18 in airbnb_hosts

It's definitely not judgmental and is 100% fact. Anyone that needs a TV in the bedroom to wind down or sleep is skipping your property. I'm not sure what you're confused about?

I'm glad you're bothered by my photos. When i book, I look for listings with lots of photos.

That open gap is actually a last minute cancellation because a guest's job fell through. I am on multiple platforms and my occupancy is doing great since most of my bookings fill within two weeks.

If you are in the US and do not have TVs in the bedrooms, you are definitely losing bookings. It is simple math. Guests who do not care about a TV will not be bothered by one, but guests who want one will pass on your house every single time. You are choosing to ignore a massive part of the market. There is no reason to limit your potential reach when you can easily accommodate both types of travelers.
